Imagine a constant narrative about whether or not to cut a QB who had 50 TD and 20 INT over the past two seasons, with a 67% completion percentage, who's on a bargain contract.
I got mocked for calling him a prime player at a prime position on a prime contract yesterday and daring to suggest he was worth more than a 4th for all that
Hes also up and down with good weapons. Hes fine. The contract is ok. He will probably be here at least one more year but Seattle is probably looking at a younger qb.
It honestly is crazy how much hate he gets from the Seattle fan base. He’s played pretty good since becoming the starter and they shit on him every chance they can.
Geno has been on the upper half of the league in terms of qb play these last two seasons. Our defense was atrocious, and a lot of those losses were on them. Great bridge qb, and he will be a good mentor to develop a youngin when we draft one.
We literally lost our two tackles week one. Some of his decision making could’ve been better under pressure but it’s injury and coaching the reason we were in those positions (talking outside of injuries). Full off season, new offense to Scheme with our weapons after the draft etc.
@@pascho1057the o-like was either struggling through injuries or struggling because of skill. The play calling was predictable and multiple games was just horrible. And for a Pro Bowl QB in which his teammates love him, Geno, is a steal of a price! Seattle will get better and Geno will put up better numbers especially with this new coaching staff!
I never get how some people don’t understand how great geno’s contract is. Outside rookie contracts and a few prove it deals like mayfield, geno has one of the most team friendly deals in the league. You’ll have a hard time finding a player doing as well as geno who is gonna be even close to a cheap in FA
Tells me that if the Seahawks don't trade him, makes them more likely to draft a QB that is a year or two away. Not every QB should be thrown right into the fire. Hope it's Penix. Especially with Grubb as the new OC.
Keep in mind that Geno missed 4 games due to injury. That is 4 less games than last year. His numbers weren’t that far off from last season. Go look at total passing yards for the team compared to last season.
This was **awesome** news to this Seahawk lifer. First and foremost, Geno Smith had by-God EARNED that bonus. Paying the man was simply the right thing to do, and that's pretty rare in this era of 'analytics über alles'. There is no analytical metric for toughness, will, patience, and professionalism, but I know it when I see it. With new coach Mike McDonald, none of us are gonna know what the Seahawks have until the second week of September anyway, so all the Saturday morning GMs out there are just gonna have to wait it out like the rest of us. Last thing, the Seahawks have got to find a way to get out from under Jamarcus Adams' contract. He's been injured every single season he's played for us and hasn't appeared in the half the games he was eligible to play in. What's more, he's never been available to play in the playoffs for anybody. Dude's getting starting QB money for just going to rehab. It's past time to cut that bait.
Eat at Geno's didn't regress. The O line play regressed, if he was given more time he would had a better year, he also missed a couple of games in comparison to year before, also because of protection issues. He had four or five comeback wins, which showed his poise and presence. And remember the defense was horrible, bottom third of the league. If the defense was just a little bit better, Geno would have got a few more wins, probably more and they would have made the playoffs.
It's about options, John knew what he was doing when he signed Geno and I would say it has worked out pretty well for us. We can keep Geno and he is not expensive for what he offers, we can trade him if we find a partner and maybe get our 2cnd round pick back from Leonard Williams. The real odd thing is the way the new coaches talk about Drew Lock, who isn't even on the team yet for next season. They might see him as a cheaper version of a bridge QB or maybe even a better version of Geno, who knows, but it is weird how Grubb and even Macdonald both talk about Geno as if he is just going to be here next year. Personally, I think if they find a trade partner John trades Geno and rolls with Lock. That give's us more draft capital, free's up cap space and allows us to have more options in the draft if we want a QB. If none of those things happen though, I think they are prepared to roll with Geno another year.
Most of our RBs are on rookie deals so they’ll probably go with the 5th year option if they like how they play, most RB don’t get paid that much so it’ll probably be way cheaper than that
& I BROUGHT UP HOW OFTEN HE WAS PRESSURED BECAUSE WHEN YOUR PRESSURED SO OFTEN IMMEDIATLEY AFTER THE SNAP MESSES WITH THE ABILITY TO FOCUS ON HIS READS AN MAKING GREAT PASSES. 1ST THING HE HAS TO DO IS LOCATE WHERE PRESSURE COMING FROM
This makes Geno a tradeable asset. They even said it, that contract is cheap for a serviceable starting QB. Seattle wouldn't have saved enough salary cap to make cutting Geno make sense, but absorbing his contract allows them to offer Geno for a 2nd or a 3rd & 5th.
I’m so happy! I like watching geno sling it to our stud receivers! Seems like Grubb will embrace the passing game even more! And if you trade geno for great value, that’s cool too! But I would let him take one more shot with DK and JSN if it were my choice- feels like Geno vs the Lions is what he’s capable of. I think we can help him get to that this year consistently if that defense comes to life

We don't have the trade up potential to get him ! Every team out there that needs a quarter back and has high first round pick are going to take him first ! I'd love to have him here but the prospect and odds aren't in our favor !
Geno is a good bargain at what his cap number is but he has hit his ceiling. Outside of the usual offensive line issues the Seahawks have had for a decade or so that offense is stacked with talent. If the Hawks hope to get ahead of the Rams and 49ers in their division they will need to make an upgrade at QB in the very near future. Hawks have few players under contract past 2025 so resetting that QB cap number with a good young player to keep talent in house has been a good recipe for success for teams in the past.
