- Hey, here's a short video about the Goon Squad and what little information there is regarding them story-wise in Escape from Tarkov

They are definitely former Navy SEALs, or at least another elite Navy unit. Combined with the tattoo that another commenter pointed out, Knight and Big Pipe wear pants with the AOR-2 camo which is for Navy specialized units.

@@Garnansoathe gear that knight and big pipe use are definitely from NSW. Pipe was probably devgru though with the death from above thing. Birdeye’s gear is different and his speciality is long range, I’d take a bet he’s a former marsoc dude from the pants and the fact that the marine corps breeds some of the best snipers in the world. I’d like to think they all met each other somewhere in the service and decided to do private military contracting when they got out. Real nerdy shit but hey it’s cool
Knight and big pipe are seals 100% big pipe has bone frog tattoos that are visible and I also believe pipe has a AN/PRC-16 radio attached to his rig that is used often by jtacs. He also has a death from above tattoo which could signify he dropped bombs on people. How ever bird eye character design was after a real MARSOC dude wearing a Baja jacket in Afghanistan also has a Latino accent and kinda look Mexican.

One thing that gets me though with Birdeye is his backpack and the company it comes from: Mystery Ranch. They provide medical equipment and backpacks for medics and EMS. My sergeant used to carry one and my unit was about to get assigned some for my medical team. Granted there’s a radio in it already, but I believe he has a medical past, and hence is another reason he is in the back or is the scout of the group, your medic doesn’t get shot

It's a lot to read into based on a brand. I got a hunch they'd sell a bag to anyone with cash to buy it, or anyone sporting qualifying gov ID, which is nothing special. Sounds like you drank a shit ton of that Kool Aid making you think that Mil/Civilian LE/First Responders are some kind of special gang who are cooler than everyone else. Sometims a backpack is a backpack, a foreign video game is a foreign video game, artists are inspired, and things are actually what they seem. .... and Pigs are CIVILIANS not MILITARY, because THAT would be TYRANNY.
I know this is a old comment but I want to point out, Mystery Ranch makes a variety of packs and bags, including for hiking, jumping, assault, EDC/lifestyle and First Responder. The medic/EMS is just a very small portion of their business. All kinds of military personnel use their packs and I personally own a Mystery Ranch 2Day Assault backpack, which is a downsized version of their famous 3 day assault pack.
I believe BSG is trying to refer them as DEVGRU operators, especially Big Pipe and Knight, they both have pirate skull logos either on their vest or bandana, which is the logo for DEVGRU blue squadron, blue squadron is an assault squadron, which could explain why they would charge you like crazy. Not even mention the craving for nicotine and AOR camo. Also, the MCX .300 BLK that big pipe used is called "Neptune Spear", which is the operation that DEVGRU conducted to kill Bin Laden.

I think that the Goons were higher up the Usec organization and met some security people of Terrorgroup who wanted the goons to handle either security or mask terrorgroups involvement. After seeing how fucked everything is in Tarkov they decided to cut ties and maybe inspired going Rouge. Anyone else got any Ideas? I really wanna hear other peoples thoughts!

There is probably a harsher way of saying it but the description for pretty much everything in Tarkov is 1 line so it's pretty difficult to make lore videos!
Finally, a detailed video about the goons, usually there are videos only about how to kill them, and then there is at least some kind of biography. It is a pity there is little information about them, as well as about other bosses. Maybe someday the developers will release a tab with a complete dossier about all factions, merchants, bosses and sectarians. Thank you for the most detailed analysis of all the bosses in the game)

We had a similar group here, back in the 20s and 30s, called Cangaçeiros. They were eventually hunted down and their heads were exposed as war trophies.

I like to imagine there used to be more than three members in the goon squad (hence the dogtags on knights arm). Maybe they were large seal squad employed by USEC/Terragroup to fight in the contract wars, but unfortunately only 3 made it out of that conflict.
Or it became a dog eat dog type of world and he just managed to kill a lot of peeps for their loot

I think Big Pipe and Knight Death are both former SEALs while Birdeye is MARSOC (the m81 woodland kinda gives it away)

I've been out of the tarkov loop for a while but these guys, specifically Death Knight give me big Hunter vibes from the Division

The multitude of people already said that Big Pipe and Knight are seals but their patch is also a pretty good give away with the trident.
I think one thing i can add about Birdeye is that he seems to be Western Apache, due to his weapon build names, and in the promo art he has an axe or tomahawk of some kind.
I remember that it was mentioned Knight and big pipe were Navy Seals former. Birdeye is kinda hard to decide but definitely a marine unit. Maybe The raider regiment

I was on customs this wipe and me and my squad got gooned on by the goon squad, they truly are the most powerful gooners this side of the tarkov region
