    I have had 2 TLs from this generation. An ‘04 w/ 6sp and ‘05 auto. The latter white/tan like this. I miss both cars. Such a great platform and design. Acura really hit the sweet spot with this generation. Looking forward to this build.

      @willjam465 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mrdave777 my favorite would have to be the ‘04 w/ manual, that also came with a limited slip differential. It felt noticeably quicker with a little sharper handling. The ‘05 had lighter tan interior, which I preferred the the darker “peanut butter” brown of the ‘04. Seats were super comfortable in this generation. Completed some long road trips with ease, like Florida to Illinois and back. My only gripe for both was a very bad turning radius.

      @@willjam465 Thsnk you!! I’ve always been partial to manual. Until I drove over 300k miles in an automatic semi, and after owning my TL which is auto as well. I couldn’t be happier. 2004 and on really saw an improvement with automatic transmissions!

    • @mrdave777
      @mrdave777 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@willjam465 And in all honesty. My dash is cracked, my seats are horrendous. The car’s transmission left me stranded more than once till I had it rebuilt. • @willjam465
      @willjam465 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrdave777 the transmission in my ‘05 was always a worry from what I read online. I had it in 2015-17 with around 80k miles. Picked it up from an exec from Lockheed- Martin. Was his second car he drove occasionally and had bought new. Was a cream puff. Not sure why I worried…lol. Dash was perfect until right before I got rid of it. It finally cracked on one side of the passenger airbag. I was so frickin upset. Wish I still had that car to use around town. Such a great car, though I love my 2018 Mazda 6 Signature that I have now and bought new. That generation TL still stands out in styling to me. Still looks good today, almost 20 years later.

    Omg, you guys just made my day.
    I have an 08' TL with same color inside and out. Made my own Duckwing spoiler for the trunk by attaching a strip of plexiglass to the factor spoiler and fiberglassing them together..
    5/8ths thick sheet of plywood with fabricated aluminum brackets attached to the bottom of the front bumper an strip of vinyl siding moulded to shape with heat gun to close up the gap.
    Very aerodynamic front kinda like a Nascar..with everything flowing with the Beautiful lines of the Car..
    Your right too. The best looking TL ever made..I'll email you some pics if your Interested..
    Made a simple short Air intake system and made my own 2 1/4" X-pipe connection to both banks. Then flows through factory Cat into 2 1/2 pipe with bullet Resonator into 2 1/2 × dual 2 1/4 outlets the finished off with those gorgeous Factory Tips..
    It definitely got a bump in Hprs. I smile everything I drive it and look for any reason to do so..
    Thanks for all your work, effort and content..
    Always a fan.

    An automatic to manual transmission swap would be cool to see, as some of those early third gen TL's had manuals without the Type S package. Although swapping it with a Type S engine and transmission combo would be awesome as well. As far as interior mods go, you should remove that sound deadening material you will save a ton of weight off the chassis aside from everything else.

Our J32A3 NA on 93 with our Stage 2 cams made 316whp 262wtq and easily had 325whp in it if we didn't have a small 2.5" CBE (dual resonators, dual mufflers) and also -2 step colder plugs because we were going Turbo and installed them then realized we needed to Dyno our new St.2 cam specs and forgot they were in there. Now our Shop R&D (my daily) 7th Gen Accord Coupe 6spd makes 550whp/467wtq on just 8psi with all of our parts 😁

    I think the TL has in common with 90s Accord and Prelude that it gets overlooked for the Civic just because it isn't "the lightest" or simplest. That limiting POV persists even after the passage of time and what passes for progress in the car industry renders those shades of difference less relevant in hindsight (if we could just see things objectively).

    Personally own a 2007 TL, and man do I love the car. Acura really dropped the ball when they designed the 4th Gen TL.
    The modification support for this car might not be on the level of a Civic, but there's still a considerable amount of aftermarket performance parts for them.
    Sucks that quite a few of these aftermarket companies are starting to discontinue parts for this gen TL.

      I only cared for it once they fixed it and made it a little less out there. I think it was 2012. I do hate that they took away the quad exhaust but it looks much better from the front and back.

    Traded in my 05 TL 6MT 3 years ago for a newer WRX and I've missed that car ever since. The clutch was going and decided to let it go.. if it wasn't for the harsh winters up in New England I'd buy another one ASAP (although the TL was a tank in the snow too.. ). Can't wait to watch more of this series! Just a suggestion, maybe do a Brembo swap and a 6 speed?

    • @tmo2798
      @tmo2798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet that TL you traded in will outlast that WRX. Why didn't you do a clutch job yourself? A few hundred in tools, a few hundred in parts. Elbow grease... You're done.

    • @WrexyJoe
      @WrexyJoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tmo2798 looking back at it I 100% agree with you.. definitely going to learn from that mistake! Im going to do the clutch if I’m ever in that situation again.
      I saw it for sale at a small dealership weeks later for twice what I got for trade in.. amazing car!

    Unless you are swapping the transmission to a 6spd manual, be prepared for the autotragic transmission to fail as soon as you start throwing power mods at it. 04-06 auto TL's are known to have transmission issues.

    If you're trying to keep the build simple; add a J35zX manifold, hollow out the cats (if possible where you live/for the application), and a J37a2-5 throttle body with a K to J ebay adapter. Fits right on. Then tune it if you can and send it!

    I had a 2007 Nighthawk on black that I did a few suspension and cosmetic mods and it was one of my favorite cars I have owned. I would still have it if the trans hadn’t gone out. I traded it in and I always wished I had just done a performance rebuild and kept it. I’ll be checking out the build progress.

    As a proud owner of a prestine 2004 TL (6MT, Navi, A-spec with comptech kit), the 3rd gen TL was Acura's best selling vehicle they've had. Such a timeless classic that is still sought after. This was the time where Acura was on top of their game. It's unfortunate where they ended up.
