Thank you for your video. Im in need of about 200 of these for a hedge im planning to plant and seeing that you've had success with them is helping me not feel so weary of ordering from direct gardening. Please do continue to update with your result!

I'm glad I can help! It looks like Privets are going to be a great choice for hedges. I have some Boxwood shrubs that have been in my house for years and have barely grown in the same conditions. Hope to see you on the next one!

This is strange because I was just thinking about your privet the other day. It's doing very well. I'll be watching out for the first cut.

Just keep squaring them off or however you like your hedge and they will fill in, no more "twiggy". Look great though have some on the way... Thanks for the updates.

Really interesting and useful to see the progress. Could you please let us know how tall they were when you planted them?

    • @rsxen8990

They were between 1-2 feet tall when I planted them.

Wow this could be so helpful to me. My girlfriend ripped out a couple hundred square feet of hedges in my backyard and never finished the project!! Just like my hedges she's long gone LOL.

What is a good way to winter rise the WaxLeave Privets ?Because the leaves all fell but I brought some very young wax leave privets and don’t want them to die in the winter .

Did you plant them? Or in pots? This type of privet is suppose to lose their leaves on cold winters, they shouldn't die if they've been planted in the ground.

What type of privet (not all are evergreen), which could explain the leaf loss? I would bet you would have much more consistent growth with drip irrigation. Two hedges like that would be very easy to put on a drip.

They are Ligustrum amurense/Amur Privet, which depending on climate may act as semi-evergreen. Hoping they will be a little tougher as winters are mild. I have been considering a drip system, I believe I could come up with a durable solution for the breaks in the hedges (for mailman). Only one side has immediate access to a water spigot, so that is why I haven't attempted yet. It is definitely on my mind and a great idea! Thanks for stopping by!

I'm in zone 7. These will grow best in 3-7. Though I have seen them grown in hotter zones 8-9 (Florida-Texas).

I have to say I was really nervous about direct gardening. My wife read some horrible reviews! We really want privet hedge to replace a ton of boxwood that died around our patio, so I think we'll take a flyer and do what you did. I'm gonna sub your channel so I get your updates. BTW, are you going to trim them to promote thicker growth at the base?

That is the wonderful thing about TH-cam, we can all make the leap of faith first and pass on our experiences. I was wanting a year of establishment before trimming them, so that will be pretty soon. They are about to flower, so I figured I would let them so everyone can see what they look like. Thanks for subbing and hope to see you on the next one!

Start weaving them with those next to them and you will get a stronger hedge, just thread the branches together.

Hi Ruski. That is a great tip. Hope you had a chance to see what they look like now! Thanks!

I ordered the same produce almost 2 weeks ago, waiting for product to be shipped 1-2 more weeks? Feeling better after watching this series. Thank you! question, what planting zone are you? Any pictures of that they looked like in winter?

    • @rsxen8990
      @rsxen8990  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey there I live in a 7a zone. The order took longer than 2 weeks when I orderd, with this virus going on, it's very possible causing delays. I didn't take any pictures (I should of), but they did drop all leaves during the winter. I'm not sure if it is because they haven't fully established (it hasn't been a year yet even) or it was the constant -Negative degree temperatures. I'm glad I could help and hope to see you on the next one!!

Imagine if I had used slower growing shrubs!! I believe these are growing a little slower (even now they are way faster than many others), is I was wanting to see how much they'd progress without watering. I believe a regular watering schedule will improve progress and plan to. Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you in the future!
