After 50+ years as a fan, I’m watching Cohen build a solid base for this team’s future. They’ve not done this since Cashman was GM.

I enjoy watching Uncle Steve build up all aspects of the Mets and the Community. David Sterns clearly has the reigns to spend what he wishes. And he is great at getting good talent cheap.

A team is not made up of one player is it made up of 26 players. A single man does not win championships in baseball. Let's turn the page and look for people who want to be with us. Let's remember these two facts: 1 Anaheim has someone who was considered the best player in the league for a long time and they never went to a final; 2 San Diego was full of names and did not reach a final either. A TEAM is more than that
Sometimes all those big names together is a mistake even in different sports.

With the money being basically equal Yamamoto chose to play with the current Day Babe Ruth "Showtime" Ohtani and a chance to win rings.

I understand the process of building a team but you said “ the Mets are not bargain basement shopping “ the truth is that is exactly what they are doing claiming to have tried to get Yamamoto. If the end result is a bunch of C grade players you have to say exactly what they did and not try to spin it into “they went for this guy but he wanted to go somewhere else.

So we waited almost a month for Trevor Bauer . He played games with us and eventually sign with the dodgers . Yamamoto played once again same time time frame as Bauer. Cohen went to Japan to visit him then had dinner with Yamamoto at cohen house then sign with the dodgers . It’s a joke
So when ever a player takes too much time with free agency , the Mets lose out
Ok I guess. So what are they supposed to do about it. When players have teams competing over them they are going to take their time. Especially big market teams.

The valuable lesson that Cohen has to learn is that when a player has options, they'll choose a winning situation over a mediocre situation. They'll be paid either way.
Stearns will help improve the roster and prestige of the team over time. Players at the point will want to come here and we have the owner that will pay them.
Cohen's money is not necessarily for outbidding other teams, its more about have the funds to get the prime players that want to be here.

In a way I am glad that Yamamoto went to the Dodgers- The Mets are a team that has always built a winner from within and key trades. The 69 Mets and 86 Mets are proof of that. Additionally David Sterns will make the right moves. He has so far. He will pick up value talent and build a winning Team! Like you said not the "big Names" the over looked talent in both leagues. The minor league system has a lot of talent and the Mets will use that talent to create a winning team. David Sterns and Steve Cohen Know what they are doing. Thats building a winner from within!

2023 started with Edwin going down, then the season sucked. Maricio goes down and ends with Yamamoto stiffing Cohen and the Mets after they appeared to have done everything right. Can't wait for the new year.

Here's my take: Yamamoto never wanted to come to either NY team. There were signs that he was LA bound. As much as either NY teams tried to sway Yamamoto to come to them, he played them to get a better contract with the Dodgers. Well, he got what what he wanted and made NY look like like a bunch of fools. Lick you wounds Mets and look into signing Imanaga.
Time to go after Trever Beauer, he’s been proven innocent and I think he would love to come back and stick it to the Dodgers.

If we play our cards right we are around three years from becoming real championship contenders and that path details us putting in the effort to develop our youth core. But if we remain on the same path that we have been on, for lord knows how long, chances are we will wind up, like we always wind up, fighting for third place and the opportunity to have yet another I believe moment where we get shellacked in the first round, believing with all our hearts that this year will somehow be magical and different, just like 1969.

I do agree with extending Pete Alonso but we need more. We extend Pete and we have the same team that didnt execute anything last year and DJ Stewart is not the answer. As far as free agents, JD Martinez is out there and Cody Bellinger. For pitching Snell/Montgomery is better than doing nothing. The same sorry team is not going to cut it!

Yamamoto might be special, but if you sign 2 or 3 good starters instead of ONE Yamamoto, then you have a chance to win a lot more games.
Mets HAVE to put their money in Pete’s pocket right now, and get him the protection he deserves and we deserve. If you get him that protection, you will not se those.220 batting averages any more. Soto was the perfect piece. I don’t think there is a better fit in the game for this Mets situation as it stands right now
The Mets need to give Pete everything that he wants. It would be unacceptable to lose out on Yamamoto AND not extend Pete Alonso.
@@ishottheserf6715 If Pete is dead set on leaving then sure. Trading him to get young pieces is the only move. But Pete still has like 5 or 6 years left at a close to MVP level ahead of him. It's going to be really hard to get an equal return to that via trades.

@@Diddy20022 We aren't getting a better team than he had last year this season no matter what. Ohtani, Yamamoto, Nola, and Soto are off the board. We might get Snell but that's not a huge difference maker. We could trade Pete now but we probably aren't getting another current MVP candidate back. The ship has sailed on the Mets having a playoff team in 2024. The best move is to be in rebuild mode for 2025 and beyond.
@@JuanNunez2023 So those players you mentioned were the only players available? You know theres a free agent market right? So adding JD Martinez as DH wont make our team better? Last year he hit 33 homeruns, made the all star team and drove in 103 rbis. Blake Snell is better than Mcgill. Josh Hader is a free agent and will make our BP better. As Mets fans, we want to see moves that will make our team better than what it was the year before. OK we dont get the monster elite players but there are gaps that can be fixed by the players mentioned above or other moves.

Mets fans seem to not understand no one wants to play here unless you are at the back end of their career. The problem is the culture the Mets created and it continued under Cohen and those dumb signings last year. This whole organization needs to be revamped. Soto isn't coming next year.
