Let's not forget the British band The Stranglers, who originally wrote, created und published the genius song "Golden Brown". Their original version is more dreamy, whereas Brubeck's one is cool, both outstanding though.

it's a catchy song and it makes a good jazz standard. A John Coltrane version of it whould be great, my favourite things style.

No Shame on you, my friend. This is not Brubeck's, neither did the stranglers cover it. A very talented musician here on TH-cam edited the vid so it looks as if it was being played by these guys (take a look at the drummer in the beginning. You'll easily notice how it is cut/pasted together), while also playing the sax to the tune of stranglers' Golden Brown.

Hey! First of all, I would like to say how much I appreciate your work and your talent. I've watched the video you first posted during May over and over and could not get enough of it. :)
I am SO glad you've finally released the final version! Thanks to you and your band mates for such a great tune, this is truly a wonderful tribute to two hits and to the great musicians from the Dave Brubeck Quartet and the Stranglers.
I have a question if I may, I wanted to ask you why did you decide to not include a kinda-bridge section between the sax solos and the drum solos. Both are really great, I don't want to be misunderstood. I just feel that the transition from the sax solo to the drum solo is kind of sudden. Anyway, I'm not criticizing your artistic choices, but rather I am curious about what led you to that decision. :)

Dave Brubeck is so funny in this video: 1:32 He stares at the sax in front of the camera the whole time and suddenly during the drum solo he stops playing and turns away from the piano & camera for a few bars before he plays on as nothing happened 1:50 staring to the sax again😆 I love it

When the Stranglers covered this, it was a hauntingly beautiful song and in my opinion they did a great job, really good, but Dave Brubeck is the master and any other version, no matter how good, how well orchestrated, will always bring us back here.... Sunday mornings do not get any better, thanks guys ..

@@stupidhandles Due to pressing plant "issues" (which usually means a bit of the machinery has needed replacing, no mean feat to find these days) the Take Vibe E.P. - Golden Brown release date has had to be moved to Friday 09/10/2020. However, if you've ordered by bandcamp you will most likely start receiving your copies via the mail from the 30th September onwards.

This is great but is there somewhere I can hear this played by Dave Brubeck and his band?
Here is more background: "2020. Full On Lockdown: Musician Laurence Mason puts together this off the wall idea meshing together two of his biggest musical heroes, Dave Greenfield of the tough 1970's proto-punk band The Stranglers with the oh so cool 1960's jazz of Dave Brubeck. He puts up his demo on TH-cam not really expecting much in the way of feedback. And gets ONE MILLION hits. " So we re-recorded it to a suitable 45 vinyl single length and released it. It sold 2,000 vinyl copies, got in the Pop charts, only for vinyl sales but not bad eh? So there is no "original" recording by Dave Brubeck, the song itself was written many years after his releases of Take Five etc. Hope that clears everything up.

I cannot help what I discover about this video. Please, help me to understand it. - First: it is a very beautiful song played here.
And than? Paul Desmond died in 1977. The Stranglers had this hit in 1981 and the context was
about the very danger of heroin-use. Was that a topic on the lifes of these jazz musicians? Not that I know.
But the sound of what I hear is not exactly in sync of what I see. Very clear in the beginning with the drummer (cuts out).
Also with mr. Brubeck who is playing in another pattern than that I hear. Probably I hear an electric piano, not the acoustic one that I see on video. Than Paul Desmond: I see also some difference in handmovements related to what I hear.
=> So, who wants me to help me to understand what is happening here?
Or do I have to believe that «Golden Brown» is an old composition of Brubeck/Desmond Quartet from the mid-fifties?
I cannot follow it all, really, or do I have to say: this is a great song, but more great is the electronical manupilation that the guys on this video got done?
