Because the first came out like it was real. This made it look 100% Hollywood. If they had just called it, Book of Shadows. Without adding the Blair legend to it. People would of liked it.
it was BADASS. what a REAL horror movie should be. but bc the first movie was supposed to be "realistic film footage" which was the trend at that time , they wanted this here to have that same effect. and I really didn't care for the first film film either. 🤷🏽♀️😝

Not a great sequel but I love the early 2000s vibe and I can respect the fact that they tried something different instead of just remaking the first one.
The newest Blair witch that came out a few moons ago wasn't remake but a sequel to this movie and the original, picking up almost 20 after I believe Heather brother goes looking for his lost sister.
If you get the dvd and watch the special features (yes im old) you will find spread throughout the film are slight changes and words etc (it explains better) when put altogether it says...a secret..youll have to watch or youtube it to find out what it is. Happy hunting

If you dont know the stories of Rustin Parr, Coffin Rock, or the Elly Kedward tale its harder to understand.
