I would love to share with Jim the fact that his interrogation video makes me deeply optimistic. The guy clearly made a terrible decision, but the way he buddies up and jokes with the cops throughout all of it, acting as though he's going to right back to work. He's just lost his job, his public image as a professor, probably his house, and he's off to jail for half a decade, but he's just laughing with the cops like they're old friends, even giving them the evidence they need and acknowledging that fact. It's moving in a strangely profound way, how much he acts as though he just doesn't care.
tbf..and especially if you`re drunk as he was...you wouldn`t have time to absord the consequences, you`d effectively be in shock & in a zone, a little like when you suffer a bereavement and you just act on instinct for a time before the reality sinks in.
I appreciate your take on it, but this might be too optimistic. He was inebriated and didn’t appreciate the gravity of the situation; he honestly thought he could talk his way out of it and in the process blamed everyone from the police to Yahoo. Having said that, he’s elderly and sick and served his time and I think it’s true he’s no longer a threat. I hope people leave him alone and don’t try to prank/harass him. He sounds like he has true goodness in him, it’s a shame his life played out as it has.

It should go without saying that nobody should wish bad health on Jim, especially at his age. He's 72 and from the sound of it has done his time like a man and moved on from what he did and put it behind him. He is NOT remembered for blaming everyone else, Lou. He is remembered for being who he is. The bubbly, philosophical Jim Rauch. In happier times. Too bad he has fallen on such hard times. 12 years ago, Rauch seemed a much more active man. He is remembered for who he is, his unique personality. I could sit and talk with him for hours! I sincerely hope he is well, finds happiness.

Sorry, but this was just awkward and creepy from you. You kept telling him over and over how you watch the video all the time, ok we got it. You forget that you were a total stranger calling him at night, so that's a creep factor as well. Second, why would you call just to be shocked that he picked up? You should have been prepared in the event that he did answer. Lastly, there were definitely better questions to ask than to just come off judgmental. It's been over a decade, so just let it go. Telling a convicted predator who is still on probation that you're a big fan of his videos is just awkward.

This is a guy who CANNOT shut up.... ..I'm big fan of TCAP and find myself surprised how all the predators think they didn't do anything grave. They know they did something WRONG, but most believe that they would get a ticket or fine and walk out from the police department that very same night. But listening to Jim,, one realizes that indeed he was his own worst enemy by "deciding" to talk to the detectives. A talkative guy.

Jim stated at the interview he did not think he did anything wrong but he kept asking the decoy are the police going to be there that was his big concern so his story is total BS and the police interview was not an idiot he played him like a fiddle a set up so he can dig a deeper hole when he did
