People want to complain about sponsors but I personally find that the products were presented in an informative way so I learned something new without it detracting from the video. Also, if it was not for sponsors then you guys would not be able to put out so much great content so I am all for it. Thank you!!
This is really a great tutorial...you not only gave us pointers about your actual technique, but also the rationale for doing such. My biggest take-away was your cognizance of the time...we saw the pre-planning, and the fact that you knew ahead of time where and what you'll be shooting...i.e. what images would make sense...how you engaged the client...all of which boils down to professionality....damn great!!
I really like this kind of tutorial where you show us detailed how you plan this kind of shoot, and I am super impressed that you even tell us the flaws that you had in the shoot that gives us so much possibility to learn from you - I appreciate it!
The video is packed with useful information on the process, I don't mid the commercials. But where the photos fail is the color. These gyms are mostly dark, vintage, sweaty rooms. They have mood, they have their own spirit that you can feel when you enter. The worst you can do is to kill the spirit by hammering white light in it. GUYS! Light is almost never white. Add a CTO and a dark yellowgreen and the photos would look a whole lot better. Looks like the shoot was done in a hurry or not well thought out in advance. I only hope the commercials were not the main point of this video.
That last standing shot w/ his natural body language of arm resting on that wall pipe would’ve been amazing! The hands on belt feet crossed seemed a little standard. As always great work!! You did seem way more nervous than usual! Hell yes to the black eye, makes it! Not a fan of the presets altering the color of the gee, it already has great punch!
Title was written wrong, it should be “Environmental portrait shooting of a Badass” 😂 🤣 great photo man and great video. Some may hate all the sponsors but, I see it as getting bonus with review and hands on tutorial of lighting and basic posing.
As a BJJ black belt in San Diego (3rd degree) and a professional photographer, I found this video very interesting. Nothing says jiu jitsu more than cauliflower ear 😆. With that said, I would of liked to have seen that window/door light showing the outside as a background (blown out of course) I just think that would of looked really interesting.
Shazam, there is a lot to all of this. How do you keep from going insane with all the choices and directions you can take each photo. Last month we brought props to a job where Daymion Mardel was showing genius. It was fun speaking to him about this art and hearing his opinions.
Is noise added in post? Even with youtube compression it is clearly visible and it just seems a bit too much. Also there's an error in post I guess, his hand is partially duplicated on the second picture. Apart from that, quite an interesting video, cheers!
Manuel T our rating shouldn’t have anything to do with Effort put into it. Have you seen David’s atlas Photo? Effort level 10, still wasn’t beyond a 2 or 3 max. -P
£1500 for the lighting unit is not too bad considering it pays for itself with few photoshoots. 15:02 Ill pay close attention to what tripod u show in videos from Europe haha
I don't think you can say you are reviewing all these products. You don't list any of the cons or bad points. You're advertising for the sponsors. That's not the same as an unbiased review.
yoh sorry but watching these videos is like watching half an hour of ads I understand that you have to make money somehow but this is a bit of an overkill... I have enough 👋🏼
apology in advance for a potentially indelicate question: do you learn jiu jitsu simply because you enjoy it or is this in response to Ritz Camera(R.I.P.) bankruptcy trustee having put out a contract on you for those hilarious yet damning videos about your life and escapades at Ritz? Those shots look very atmospheric really pull out the gym's essence.
sky breaker ha I don’t see how you can call this lighting too flat. It’s the totally opposite of flat soft light. Not disagreeing with your rating but you can’t call this lighting flat. -P
2 stars, needs work before it hits your portfolio
Lmao
I’m between a 2 and 3. It’s just missing.... I dunno, there’s just something about it that’s not right 😂
Needs some Joel Grimes spin on it.
Exactly! I wish there were a twin Lee to harshly critique everything about these average shots.
@Ethan Daniel oh fuck off you bots

To be honest i liked the 1st photo when the gym was dark in the back!, it added a bit of mystery for me, great video as always!
I really like this kind of tutorial where you show us detailed how you plan this kind of shoot, and I am super impressed that you even tell us the flaws that you had in the shoot that gives us so much possibility to learn from you - I appreciate it!
You accidentally cloned his hand in the final second image where he's sitting 😬
Patrick: Let's make 5 videos with 5 different sponsors
Lee: Hold my beer
LMFAO
Literally a page straight out of BJJ competitors books 😂
I enjoyed the video but I did skip the plugs. They get paid and we get entertained. Win - Win
With all of the sponsors you had today, I would think you could afford to change the smoke detector batteries :)
Do the paid, full-length tutorials have sponsors also?
@@JonLarzon No not that I've seen
Where is the Mike v Lee shootout?! I'm going crazy refreshing
Diego Guerrero it’s still being edited; these things take time ....-P
@@FStoppers definitely! You guys are pumping out so much good content this year that you're spoiling us a bit
Thanks Pat
Great video as usual but god damn that was way too many sponsors.
Skip button is well used on these videos 👍. Great video which you cannot deny.....
Thank you for mentioning that you need to plan how the photo will be used, eg. space allocation for headings, body copy, dps, sps, etc.
All the teachings you share is worth even without the sponsored gears.
Love that
Advertisements with a shoot that just happened and conformed around them. Interesting format.
Good tips..as you said, "You have to think on the fly" in environmental portraits! THANKS

Am I crazy, or is there a hand reflection in the second final image? I'm probably crazy.
I love Profoto lights...they just came out with the B10 Plus this morning, pretty cool...
Yes! I've been trying to up my environmental portrait game lately and this is awesome.

This is awesome I had no idea you trained as well! Great process and video as well!
Buys a $10 000 lense to avoid vignette then adds vignette in post :D
Loved the detailed explanation!

Oss! So I'm a BJJ guy too. I'm filming my school 2x a week and I'm really glad I stumbled upon this. Like and subscribed . Thanks brotha
does he breathe ? He's so static he probably invented the statue challenge
I wonder what rating they would give this on Critiquing the Community?
Loved this video and I liked your 1st shot the most
When do we get to the awesome atmospheric portraits? All I see is mediocre ones.
I was going to shoot a portrait of my Puertorican Mofungo instructor here in Brazil. Would these techniques still work?
@@beberdje Makes sense, I am on the other side of the equator.
That white spot on your shirt is freaking me out haha 😂
I've dabbled a little in environmental portraits - pretty fun stuff
When you say about dial & nob about Fuji xt3 remind of you doing the review of Nikon Df years back
Hello I have a Panasonic S1, When I use external flash and its transmitter the camera is overheated this is normal ??
Great Video!!!!! And great gear!!! The final 3 images were awesome!!!!
This video seriously made me double-check that it wasn't my smoke detectors chirping.

This video really inspired me to grow up and be an ad
You probably got your hands on the Profoto B10 Plus. You should've used those ;)
good video! i have learned a lot from you. thank you!
it can out put 10 bit to an external recorder? what does it mean ? like audio or video? can someone link som of those external recorder ?
Tbh i expected a bit more from those photos
I just watched a 33 minute commercial. I don't know why.
Great video! Whats the different between exposure x4 bundle and exposure x4? Do you get the presets in both?

I thought my smoke detectors were acting up but then I realized it was the video
I love the second picture. Btw what is that ghost hand on the second image?
I just used that outro song for a basketball pump-up video for a client. ONE
Dope edit...love the tutorial on Alien Skin!
I notice you crop around the ankles I thought that wasn't a good thing to do in photography
When is the new architectural challenge video coming out!
I need a photography lesson and then a few rolls afterward!
As a blackbelt myself, into photography, I appreciated this!
lightroom cries in the background..

Looking forward to this one! Guess I'll just sleep a little less today!
Great video. It's funny. Once you said that he was your BJJ instructor, I couldn't stop looking at your ears to see if cauliflower is developing. :-)
Nice one, thanks!

Marek Opała which hand? Both hands look fine
Joel Grimes is the man!
I normally am a fan of your content, but this just felt like a 30min ad. I get it, you’re running a business and have bills to pay, but damn.
Well you should be stoked they're making money to keep putting out the content you like. 💁♂️
Hey! That's master wong!
I think most of the pictures were average
As usual
Most photography channels on here take very average photos, except Jessica K. and Mango Street.
‘Great tutorial, concept, shoot, and location. Totally inspired!
Oh Jesus, that last photo had me like 🥵😋 this man is beautiful! I think the first photo should have been b&w tho imo
didn't know you did jiu jitsu. Pretty cool :)
How long has that low-battery smoke detector been chirping at your BJJ gym??
Hi Lee. What is your light stand ?
8:32 it’s not an F stoppers video without the “oh oh oh oh ohhhhoh” song
what happen to the d850 is it complety dead ?
I'm using 1:42 as a "monitor motion flicker test" haha! Still working on the flicker, tho...
It’s the first time that I see you using a fuji camera. Did you like it?
If I do the critique I will rating 2 for effort that you putting on the photo! 🤣🤣🤣. But great job thanks
