Why I LOVE Dragon's Dogma

  • Well, Dragon's Dogma 2 has been announced, but I never played the first one. Here we will be fixing that as I have been told it is one of the best RPGs ever made. I will be plaything through the Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen version and doing as much content as I can. As I don't know too much about the game I am sure there will be a big learning curve. At least for me 😂. Hope you enjoy!
Set in a huge open world, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen presents a rewarding action combat experience. Players embark on an epic adventure in a rich, living world with three AI companions, known as Pawns. These partners fight independently, demonstrating prowess and ability that they have developed based on traits learned from each player. PC users can share these Pawns online and reap rewards of treasure, tips and strategy hints for taking down the terrifying enemies. Pawns can also be borrowed when specific skills are needed to complete various challenging quests.

Speaking of Rook, i had one run where i kept him intentionally for the entire main story; geared him up and everything. His skill set and stats never improve, but his knowledge does so long as he's in your party. Most significant threats will still one shot him, but the Legion's Might alleviates that. The highlights of the whole run were Rook actually catching my arisen in mid air from what would have been a fatal fall, and knocking Grigori out of the sky with a perfectly timed Ingle. I was gobsmacked when that happened.

But what i love about dragon's dogma is the new game+ where in the end you beat your last character to replace his/her position as the God, then do another new game+ to repeat that again and again.
It might not sounds much but if you havent play the game for years then picking it up again it feels so nostalgic and satisfying to see your last character at the very end, like suddenly you remembers everything when you were playing that old character just like what your current character's feels at that point.

It's excellent in combat too, if you stun a regular sized enemy (goblin, wolf, human, saurian etc) in any way you can use that window of oppurtunity to either grapple hold them in place (as any red vocation and their hybrids) which makes them take a ton more damage from attacks or you can pick em up too and chuck em wherever.

playing dogma after years of skyrim was such a refreshing experience. just realising the first moment in cassardis that you could do parkour and jump from roof to roof and climb everywhere was so cool. and the physic engine too, you could break stuff, carry stuff, toss stuff. all the item possibility too, take an empty bottle and fill it up with water, pick up some wood and put it into some fire to make a torch at night etc.
that was one of my biggest issue with skyrim. you could roleplay as a thief but you can't climb stuff, and you jump like a toddler. archer is probably the one playstyle that was really believable and that why its the most popular.

Picking up and throwing spiders to poison people was hilarious, or picking up wildlife and throwing them to your pawns amd playing catch as they throw you back. Though my favorite was the bbi area with the gargoyle (midnight helix?) the round one with the wooden bridges going across, you could knock down the gargoyle and just throw it off the edge and not have to deal with how tanky it was.

@@voltaicburst4279 you know what kind of realism i mean, a realistic one would be fun but the main series should stay by their roots.
And if we talk realistic picking people up then all characters no matter their strenght can do that, even a small dainty sorcress can catry a burly guard in full plate.
Additionally passerbys would not be so chill and help the carry victim

@@darokdeed that would be hilarious, imagine a whole crowd of people chasing after you as you carry some massive burly old man and they're all screaming at you to put him down.
      Here's my ideas for 2:
Stamina upgrades, i can sprint longer than the arisen and i'm not even fit.
warrior needs more skill slots and just skills and love.
Expanding the mystic knight "great cannon" ability, it's very unique and fits "battle mage" perfectly
Beast tamer vocation that uses small medium and maybe large beasts as companions, not too fussed but could be cool if done right.
Mystic striker vocation that uses gauntlets and magic for a martial arts style, and also just adding barehanded combat that is kind of weak until you get some item or spell that boosts it.
from moves that boost player or pawn into the air or forward, add an option in slow motion to choose what the pawn does, so if you throw them at a trolls leg and press a button, they will grab and attack the trolls leg. something like that.
Stone element like gathering stone on a weapon then hitting them with it until shrapnel crushes the rock and flies out in a satisfying way, and basically earthbending type stuff.
Wind element like gale harness but for offensive moves like that tornado you can make, there's already wind moves so they might as well expand on it.
how about you, what would you like to see?

@@voltaicburst4279 it is ages since i last played and have nearly forgotten most stuff but i would love to have more spell variation.
One of the things that the game nailed is how impactfull a lot of things feel especially magic.
Shits not just x damage with some special effect or run of the mill rag doll physic but real shit.
You can FEEL the impacts in combat.
More precise grab and stab mechanic would be good to like stages of limp impairment.
Maybe enemies try to activly fling you out of the air or of off them if they still have good working limbs.
Oh and far smarter pawns pls

Now that i think about it. I think the anime netflix did really helped bring the game back into light, it was one of those hidden gems from my early years growing up and i always felt the same about it not getting a huge fanbase but the ones who did take some time to play it, learn it ending up having one of best fantasy iterations in gaming here. I mean netflix and cyberpunk even did the same thing with edgerunners basically sparking a much larger sense of love for 2077
