Your video was so informative. I really appreciate it. I am new to embroidery and have been afraid to try. I am now longer afraid and have the confidence that I can embroider a towel. I can't wait to get started!
@ZedesSewingStudio Thanks for responding...I just purchased a Brother SE400...Just starting small for baby gifts, maybe. I love your vids. I used this tutorial to embroidery a burb cloth for my niece. Love it...now I am in search of software for various fonts and maybe larger size fonts.
Wow, I love your presentation :-) Now I've learned how to embroider a towel. I once had a request, but your result is way better than I did. Thanks for showing.
Beautifully done! Your presentation is precise and showed how accurately it is done. I've looked at several tutorials, but many of them assume that we already know to fold the towel on the wrong side when centering it. You make it very easy. How did you get the basting stitch to sew before your design? Can you do a video showing how to do this? Thanks.
Dorothy L McCurdy I have embrilliance software and it will let you add a basting stitch to the design that stitches out automatically as the first color.
nice tutorial! I just wish you had shown the removal of the tear away stabilizer at the end. would have liked to have seen what the back looked like afterward.
Make sure you are using a CUT-AWAY stabilizer underneath- it may be that you've already ironed that on your shirt. Also, thread your machine with your presser foot up. If you have ugly threads on the bottom, it's a top-tension issue. The episode of "Inside Zede's Sewing Studio" where we embroider a onesie is just about the same instructions for embroidering a sweatshirt- so check it out! I think it's episode 3.
This machine is an Ellure Plus, another model from Baby Lock is the Sofia 2. It's more affordable model. Keep in mind that buying a machine from a reputable dealer can make a big difference in your sewing experience. When you buy from a big box store you have no service support or classes. EVERY Baby Lock dealer is required to give you service support and give you "guide classes" or free with the purchase of your machine- that's a BIG VALUE, that is worth hundreds of dollars in the long run
Okay, I found out why you need topping - When used as a topping on knits, terry cloth, fleece and other textured high pile fabrics - this creates a smooth embroidery surface. Stitches won't sink into the fabric; giving a crisp definition and detail to your work.
Thanks so much! I guess I thought that would underline. ALSO thank-you for getting back to me so soon. Any tips for not screwing up when embroidering a sweatshirt? I tried it on an old one (thank God!) and it had a huge bunch of thread coming from the bobbin. I had to cut under and pull it all out. I'm trying again today, and I ironed stabilizer on. Do you think that will solve my problem?
The basting stitch was added in a software program. There are embroidery machines with a basting stitch function- but not this one. I work on a Mac as well, but I run Parallels and Windows on my computer. I like BERNINA V6 software and Designer's Gallery MonogramWorks. You need a program to combine designs, if you can't do so in your sewing machine. You can buy basting stitch and registration lines online- we'll get some up soon!
@purplepacion Sorry for the late response. I don't know if you've already got software, but I'd recommend Monogramworks from Designer's Gallery as a good intro product. It's reasonably priced and you can use it with other software programs as you grow! Happy sewing!
Do you have other videos ? I am looking for more videos on how to embroider with my machine.....There's a few videos out there, but I would like to watch videos that are made by someone that speaks English as their first language.
Why does NO ONE show the back when finished. Assuming you tear away the back stabilizer, but it's a mess back there. Just leave it? Excellent instructions!
Thanks so much for your wonderful video and helpful tips. I just got the item to do my first terry towel. By the way what kind of needle do I use? When it come to my embroidery I use embroidery needle but I towel are very have and thick.
@purplepacion I did get this font from Bernina V6 Embroidery Software, but most embroidery machines allow you to rotate lettering/designs any way you like. This is especially helpful when the design or lettering will only fit in the hoop one way. What kind of machine do you have?
I am a c4 quadriplegic .. i used to sew so much. I bought a nice machine I can't thread lol.. so.. I bought the ellure plus baby lock.. it has sat a few years . I am ready to try. I have so much that came with my machine . Only 1 thing not there lol.. the shank to remove the various feet easily. Any clue where I can find one? I appreciated your video.. I can't press down on spray cans .. is this the only method ?
If you don't have a basting stitch, do you spray the topping on or pin it or tape it? thanks. Also, I have a Brother PE 770. Does anyone know if I DO have a basting stitch?
I love using this method for embroidering on towel. Towels are Not easy to hoop. My question: How do you get the sticky stuff off of your hoop? I don't stray near my machine and I have a paper towel cover the area where I spray. But I am having a hard time getting the sticky spray off the hoop.
I am embroidering a towel now and for some reason the top thread is not staying the terry cloth towel , I have rethreaded both embroidery thread and bobbin thread . But still the thread is not staying in the fabric ......has any one has this problem before and can you give some insights on how to fix this problem please. I would greatly appreciate your help ... Thank you
Just a couple of things. Please don't use the spray adhesive next to the machine. I appreciated the info on removing the water soluble stabilizer. I was wetting my fingertip towels in the sink, which didn't help the fringe. Also, please add info on removing the stabilizer under the project. Thanks a lot.
I have the embroidery works software and a babylock ellure plus...I am trying to figure out how you secured down the water solvable material with the base stich? I cannot find anything on creating a base stich?
+Lanna Kreck I have embrilliance software and can add a basting stitch that way, My machine is a Brother Inovis NQ3500D and there is an option of creating a basting stitch by just using the utility stitches.
I can't find how to get the spaces between the words. Help! I just read my whole manual over and can't find it! I know I did it a long time ago, and now just can't figure it out.
Can you say a little more about basting? I'm not QUITE sure what that means. I use a mac, so I just use stitch buddy, where ALL you can do is put your letters and pictures on and move it around, I don't think I can 'add a basting stitch' to the design...but I think I need it. I think that would help with the messiness of my stitches?
Does anyone use Sew What Pro software? I'd love to ask you questions. I've asked the owner several questions and he does NOT understand what my question is.
Your video was so informative. I really appreciate it. I am new to embroidery and have been afraid to try. I am now longer afraid and have the confidence that I can embroider a towel. I can't wait to get started!

I recommend the Brothers SE400 - a sewing and embroidery machine all in one. I bought mine for a little over $300.00,
Sweet and simply. TFS
And in 2019, this technique still works.

It comes off easily with a wet wash cloth. Or try a little spray cleanser from the kitchen, like Fantastic. I don't get near the metal parts.
very nice, I would be careful spraying towards my machine.
If you are just starting to do embroidery what machine do you prefer?
I am embroidering a towel now and for some reason the top thread is not staying the terry cloth towel , I have rethreaded both embroidery thread and bobbin thread . But still the thread is not staying in the fabric ......has any one has this problem before and can you give some insights on how to fix this problem please. I would greatly appreciate your help ... Are you using a certain type of embroidery software in order to line the wording in that direction?
