I know you've long-past figured this out by now, but when you were discussing Scott McGough I was screaming through my screen that he has one of those weird international contracts OOTP doesn't know how to handle. Even by rejecting the option, he still has low enough service time to where I believe it would've just renewed for the $3,000,000 he was paid this year; still probably too much for your A's, but a much better option for the season he put up.
Hi ! Again, commenting just after 12 min into the video. Pretty sure regarding McGough that the Diamondbacks won't retain his salary next season. You could easily find a similar player on the waivers or in FA. Gil is always a disappointment for me in any save I choose to pick him. Don't know why I keep continuing with that.
Yeah, I was kind of confused because I got two emails on him, first one said he opted into his contract, and then the second one was me needing to make the decision on our option, so I kind of got twisted around and thought maybe something was different, but you're right, his contract was all ours if we kept him. Gil may be gone from the A's by next season... and there's no recovering from that!
Hey Old School loving the series so far and am excited for the next season. Quick question: how are you utilizing the development tab/sliders if at all?
I too like to see some more about this new thing in OOTP. Like to see it in "action" and how to deal with it. I know you touched it in your Seattle series, but devs have tinker a bit with it in the last couple of patches. This new stuff could be crucial. I was high on it but fear it could be as the new trading setups that came last year. I see you have gone totally back to old on that. Can this new dev thing be turned off , if it's crazy as the trading circus with reputation that was all out of sync IMHO?
I'm using them very little so far... probably will use them more as I decide who I want to keep for the long term, I'll make sure to talk about it once I do something material with them!
@@oldschoolsports It's sad if that should be done. I like the promise Dev Labs open up, but need to digest it more. A good sticky post on OOTP forum might enlight me until you talke the issue. Have you read it ? Looks in depth and from the devs. Found a Dr.Dynastic on YT talking to this OOTP dev person about it too.
if you were to sign a big free agent you could backload it, and the last few years make them team options. for ex with soto you could sign him for 15 years and pay him more in the middle of the contract or backend to save money now.
It probably could have helped him, but he's just not the kind of player I want on my team, so I decided to invest in guys I might end up keeping around for a while longer. If I can get any value for Boyle in a trade he won't be back next year. His third pitch is only average, combine that with the 35 control that can maybe get to 40 if we're lucky, and just not a guy a pitching snob like me is going to invest any resources in! Crappy control is one thing I will not tolerate!!!
I am in my first offseason with the Twins (we lost in the ALCS to the WS winning Rangers) so I was very happy with that result. I am right past the Free Agency point, and, like you, have an influx of cash from the non-returning Twins. I have signed Ellis, Duran and Margot to 5 yr contracts (through their arb years) and now I need to start planning my offseason moves. I was able to draft a Top 10 pitcher in my first draft, but he is still in A ball. How do you go about sizing up your immediate vs mid-term vs long term needs (since this is your long term save)?
Congrats, sounds like a good start with Minny! Good luck with Margot, every time I have played with him he has been such a disaster offensively that it has more than offset his great D in CF! It's a little different with me with the A's than other teams I have played, because I'm not thinking about immediate needs at all. I expect us to be below .500 again next year, and since Ownership only wants us to not "suck completely," I'm going to assume I can punt on this season and only think about the medium to long term. So if I can sign a guy who might be able to help us over the next 3-5 years when hopefully we will be competitive, I will do it, but otherwise it's just going to be cheap one or two year contracts in free agency so I can field a roster in 2025, while using IAFA and the draft to hopefully develop the talent that will be helping us 6+ years from now.
He hit below .200, so he'll fit right in. Got a good laugh out of that one.
Gotta be honest about what our offense is right now!

I know the strengths indicators on the trading page isn't always accurate but WOOF, i don't think i've ever seen it so bad.
Ha, yeah, I noticed that... a lot of red lights!!!

I'd love to bring him or Adames on board, but I just don't think it makes sense yet... but things can change!
Boyle should’ve gone through control camp. He’s got the stamina to start with great stuff

If he was multi year, and his trading organization kept 100 percent they are on the hook.
