      I do agree with you about it not hitting as hard as the original. There's just something about the original that is mesmerizing, especially with the visuals. But I do still think this alternate version is amazing and beautiful too

      After watching this version of "All eyes on me" a second time (through your reaction) I got the sense that the green or demon-looking version of him was a visual manifestation of his anxiety, the inner part, and the left was bo and him on the outside. idk, just came to mind as I was watching. no idea if the song represents the anxiety he deals with, but i definitely feel like this green, creepy, demonic-looking version represents something like that.

      The original was pure perfection especially for its place in the special. This version slaps a bit harder as a jam. It’s a totally different concept. He’s dueting with himself. Really neat

      I love the originals on everything. Which just goes to show what a phenomenal job he did editing and choosing versions to make it to the special. I did enjoy pieces of this version of All Eyes On Me, but you are right when you said it just doesn't hit the same way.

    the alt version of All Eyes on Me felt like a creator desperately trying to create something. It felt like he was reaching his limit with how much he was trying to finalize the song

    i prefer the original version of All eyes on me, but there's something about this one that made it my favourite from the outtakes videos. i've lost count at how many times i've listened to it, his emotion seems so raw, cant really explain it. its just amazing.
    oh, and thanks for the reactions, it has been quite a journey, you seem like a good genuine dude. Keep it up and i wish you lots of success!

      When both takes happen to line up and the harmonies hit? That's just so good. But obviously the version chosen for the special was chosen because it is the most impactful and hit the mark perfectly.

    I think the green version of Bo in the alt version was the person he is on the inside during a performance. If you watch, his hand is shaking on the microphone and, for the most part, he delivers the impactful lines from the final version. But even at the end, he gives into the pressure like the "stage" version that's in the spotlight and asks for people to look at him as well.
    I'm sure there's more to it, and I think the final version is better as well, but I find both versions to be devastating in different ways.

    • @windflowerlulu
      @windflowerlulu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      My personal theory is that the bo on the left is his stage persona while the bo on the right is "robert", or his inner self.
      But anyway to add to yours I think the green probably signifies illness

    • @emilytacular
      @emilytacular 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@windflowerlulu Ah yeah that's a much better way of wording it. Left is "Bo", right is Robert. I totally agree, and the symbolism of green as illness is great as well.

  • @BlueRupees
    @BlueRupees 2 ปีที่แล้ว +154

    I disagree. All Eyes On Me on the Outtakes is so much more chaotic and dark. It feels like split personalities at a tug-of-war to win out only occasionally being on the same wavelength. One side being in the spotlight and one side being in the dark, lurking, saying “I lost” but also providing some of the most harmonic moments. While the original fits more as a climatic song, this one felt like one that’s more universal to anyone. I’m torn because I think I like this one more. Both are great.

      This version feels like bo is still being a little dishonest and shielding away from how raw he lets himself be in the final cut.

    • @the1fortheages
      @the1fortheages 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Im with @Depunked here. I feel like it hits just as hard as the original. Just don't ask me which one is better. In essence, the original fits the tone of the final product Inside has, while the outtakes version feels, to me, as the product of a man battling his inner demons... and kinda losing... I mean he says it too... "I lost"

  • @glassjawrules13
    @glassjawrules13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +59

    The All Eyes On Me Outtake didn't hit as hard for me at first either, I feel like because I was still in that "oh these are goofy outtakes from the special" mode and wasn't expecting anything too extravagant. But I love this version now that I've re-watched and re-listened. Still love the original, but they're almost like two different songs entirely as far as mood goes. This Outtake version definitely plays around with human duality (whether that was intended or not). Both faces contrasted each other but also heightened each other in certain moments. Whereas the Inside version seems to very much be Bo focused & relaying a singular message, especially with the inclusion of his mid-song speech. Pretty neat stuff.

    _I know this may be kinda a weird request, but it would be cool if you reacted to "Bo Burnham vs Jeffrey Besos" from CJ the X. Is a very long video essay with a very cool take in inside, and also it's very funny. I take it as "the next step after inside", if you will. Even if you don't make a reaction, it would be cool if you watched it anyway. :›_

      I totally second watching it! I think it's such a long video with so much work put in by CJ that I don't really think a reaction would be a good idea, but for sure watch it. The tech talk bit from the previous reaction part gave me chills the first time I watched it cause it's like the exact shit from that video and proves that CJ hit the nail on the head with their analysis

    Something I have read (and I don’t know much about music so I’m not sure) but, the notes in All eyes on me are the notes of the pentatonic scale, which is made up of major notes? (I think) but this creates a very uplifting sound, the pitch of his voice however is lowered to a pitch the brain associates with feeling sad, but it’s also a bit sort of demonic. So it’s essentially both uplifting and depressing at the same time which must be why a lot of people find it so captivating. I remember when I first heard / watched the special that song stirred something up in me I’d not felt before.
    As you mentioned, the alt version doesn’t have a lower pitch, which i think makes it just a more uplifting experience. I think the green light over him is supposed to represent his inner anxieties and demons, (hence the unsettling green filter, black eyes and teeth etc as you mentioned) whilst the bo on the left is the stage persona. The stage persona seems to be the one singing all eyes on me whilst the green bo on the right is singing the lyrics “world is ending, honey it already did”.
    I think that this version would have been created in the initial process of this song, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the green light was meant to try to convey what the lower pitch in the second / original version ended up doing in a much better way.
    Enjoyed watching your old reactions to his stuff, nice to see someone really think and process it.

  • @fletchly
    @fletchly ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've wanted to make a video about this. Both versions of the song are the duality of the performer and the guy suffering from depression and anxiety, and they constantly go back and forth until they become one voice.
    In the version Bo released, you can see the shifts between Bo as a performer and when he's going insular. This version is much more literal, this green demon singing from the same song sheet, sometimes taking the forefront.
    You see it even more when the performer side is saying "get your hands up" (which seems like a reference to the kanye rant) where he's performing. And "hands down, pray for me" is Bo the man, in need of help.
    By the end of All eyes on me, it's like he's gone into a panic attack, he's addressing the audience, laughing maniacally and moving erratically, saying get your hands up. To the same effect as we've seen previously, Bo's lost control and the performer cannot separate the person.

  • @st3am941
    @st3am941 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Seems to me the light version is the face he shows and the green version is how he is really feeling while he's performing. It's almost over lyric is him comforting himself and it pairs with are you feeling nervous. Are you having fun pairs with its just begun and that is his initial feelings. He both loves and hates it.

    I have a feeling that these are two separate versions that he mushed together for Outtakes. Possibly even that neither one was fully finished. I also kinda feel that way about Content in this version. The disco ball one turned into the Inside version and the colorful one was another version. I'm probably wrong but I enjoy having 3 versions of All Eyes On Me.

    While I like the artistic direction of the alt version of All Eyes On Me, the original is far better. Like you said, it felt more impactful. It is cool seeing what a real life goblin would look like singing a Bo Burnham song though. The alt ending to Goodbye made me really uncomfortable though which is what he was going for I guess. The frame freeze of his first video in the lens is a good catch though! I could have watched it 40 times and never caught it. Good eye, sir!
