Hi, sorry for the delay, I don't think it can measure duty cycle, it can measure frequency quite well. - up to 500kHz - I just checked - but the manual and the front of the meter make no reference to duty cycle. In Aus from a dealer it is about $750 but I bought mine from eBay about $570 - so not a 'good value meter' . Dave's BM235 seems to be the winner in that regard. The only HH DMM I have that can do duty cycle is my U1253B (OLED) and its brother U 1252B (LCD), These aren't cheap but some U1252B are being found on eBay - new old old stock at good prices. The batteries are 4 AA. Auto power off - time can be user varied . Regards Rob

Hi, I tried mine but the "peak" hold only works in the volts and current ranges. The manual 'hold' works in capacitance - but only holds the value recorded when the button pushed. I had a look at the manual (a first for everything - HeHe) and the manual only refers to Peak function in the V-A ranges. I suspect this is normal. I was thinking I have never used peak hold in any meter - rather odd on my part when I think about it. Regards Robert
Thanks Robert for you quick reply. Now that I also have the official answer from Hioki, ("DT4281&DT4282 do not have the Auto Hold function on the capacitance measurement. The Auto function applies for the list below: and it follows the list from the manual"), I'm sure that the auto hold was not intended to work with capacitance range. I'm quite relieved 'cos one day I measured some voltages (40-50 V cc) with continuity function :( and then I tried some caps, only to realize that the auto hold doesn't work any-longer (I thought). Imagine how pissed I was ! But it seems these Hiokis are pretty tough. Thanks again Robert for having the patience to check things out for me !
Apologies for the delay in replying, the Hioki remains silent during diode checking. It displays the test voltage (3.6v) and drop recorded in the display.
Excellent review. I wanted to see more of this meter a long time ago. I like the 60000 count resolution, the terminal shutters, the ultrafast response, the audiovisual continuity. But I don't like the absence of bargraph. Also, it cannot measure pulse width or duty cycle. Sure it has USB connection, but you have to pay extra.
The DT4282 is the fastest ranging handheld that I have ever encountered, it beats my Keysight U1282A in that respect. It is the closest thing to a bench meter in a handheld form factor on the market in my opinion. I wish Hioki would update the software with a "lab mode" where the auto power and backlight timer could be bypassed and the meter and backlight would just stay on until the meter is turned off. Also it would be fantastic if once it does go into sleep it could be woken up with a button press as it's problematic to have to remove the probe plug from the current socket altogether in order to be able to wake the meter. Even though the key sight has more features and much more configurability The Hioki for me has higher measurement confidence and speed.
I agree the DT 4282 is a very nice meter esp in my mind the ability to get to both AC and DC dual display by only one button press. The Hioki is my general No2 meter (but No1, if I am going to need a handheld DMM 'on' for some hours) but my 1st is the U1253B, so quick on and love the display - the U1253b's display jumps out at you from all angles. I have had no display fading issues as some have reported but I tend to switch it off between measurements for 'one off' . If I am at my desk for repeated measurements, the Bench DMM will come on but it takes Sooooooooooo long to boot ! I like the fact the Hioki isn't as big as the U1282 - getting just a bit too big. Daves 235 is a little corker for quick and dirty measurements (aren't most of them really?) but it lives in my 'go away' kit.
I would fully agree with that but it is a very nice meter - solid and robust . I would only very reluctantly get rid of this meter. My go-to meter is the Keysight U 1253B because of the display - so readable - but I don't think the U1253B will be as robust long term as the Hioki.
@@robertculver3296 Still, I wouldn't pay the asking price for it. Is way too expensive for what it does. I.d rather buy a SANWA PC-7000 or a Brymen 869s. Tey are both very very hard to beat for the price. and the features and accuracy are phenomenal.
Nice meter but doesn't quite go to the level you would expect from Japan. I would expect meters with much more functionalities and a much, much better display information and bigger. Say something close to match the 289 fluke. Cheaper brands from China have done it. Why not Japan?

Ya fue muy sacrificado conseguirme el 189 por 500us que por cierto lo tengo por alrededor de 10 años y es mi predilecto para usarlo en mi mesa de trabajo. Pero el 289 a pesar del problema del display aun he deseado conseguirlo pero esta fuera de mi liga. Por ello espero un buen contendiente que se ponga un poco a la altura y con precio mas accesible. Hay una marca china que han hecho una buena copia del 289, es un Uni-t pero no me convence la calidad. Solo estoy a la espera de una marca japonesa o Koreana que hagan algo similar con las mismas caracteristicas del 289 pero a un precio mas bajo que el Fluke 289.
@@willyrivero470 Yo tengo el 289, y otros màs de Fluke, tambièn el keysigth 1282a y un hioki màs pequeño que este, la verdad es que el hioki tiene una respuesta en el autorango muy superior a los fluke, en el tema de mediciòn de resistencia, asì como tambièn la funciòn REL està mucho mejor lograda que los otros equipos que manejo, este equipo del vídeo también me interesa, pero siendo honestos de lo que actualmente manejo el Fluke 289 en lo personal es el mejor equipado en todos los aspectos, ademàs de que aunque las otras marcas tambièn almacenen datos, el FLuke tiene la ventaja de que captura con fecha y hora, cosa que por ejemplo el 1282a no hace. Yo si te recomiendo ampliamente el 289, pero que sea de una serie a partir del nùmero 42, ya que las viejas revisiones tienen un error con un supercondesador que fuga.

Does it beep at a good diode like the Flukes do? It might not sound like a big deal but I love that beep.

Also I have the 1282A, the autorange is very very slow for ohm or capacitance, in all functions is good.
