Oh gosh, suddenly you've reminded me of my schoolfriend Matt Wright, who was a famous TH-camr and who died in a winch launch failure. He ran a channel called Balleka with some famous videos in it.
It's your cool bucket hat that reminded me. I miss that gliding life we had in Zimbabwe. Nowadays I fly F5J and F3K model gliders in competitions instead.@@SteFly

the most amazing thing is that you managed to beat all those new 18m gliders with the old ASG29. I have now logged more than 1000 hours on the V3 and the main advantage I see is the incredible safety margin in rough and difficult conditions in the mountains. It also climbs very well in narrow thermals. As long as you dont use it to decrease your margins again.
Well 29's are beating and certainly holding their own with the 'new' generation in quite a few competitions i.e. last 3 US 18m Nationals. (including Uvalde this year). Wonder why anybody bothers paying the extra 100,000 euro it costs for a 'new' generation 18m class glider?
@@soaruk3697 they are willing to pay this because there IS indeed a difference in performance, although subtle. Its like the difference between the V3 sport and V3 performance. Have been flown finals behind Tilo (in his smaller fuselage) and you can indeed see it after a few minutes flying in the same track. In my opinion the ASG29 and V3 Performance are about equal, the JS3, AS33, V3Sport are all 3 about the same and a little bit better if it comes to fully loaded performance. I choose Ventus any time against J3, AS33 and ASG29 because of the much better performance in difficult mountain conditions. And I especially dislike the ASG29 because of the lack of feedback it provides.
@@LSVFlachkurbler Not of enough difference that pilot skill can't make a big difference......... but if you have the money your choice................. for me because it cannot take a larger sized pilot, the small cockpit SH gliders are useless - if I had my way they would be banned from competition.....

Hi Stefan how would You compare Ventus 3 to Your ASG29 in terms of thermal feeling and in thermal handling? This is much newer project - but is there feeling difference? BTW Congratulations!!!
Ventus 3 is definitely better for the feedback and is more stable/ easier to thermal. However with the ASG29 I feel also much better with the new Larus vario unit, which shows the air movement very quick. Before I was not so happy...
Many thanks for Your really valueable replay - how about AS33 - this one is as modern as Ventus 3 and we could se from previous TH-cam video - You had occasion to fly even longer … is it more like 29 or more like Ventus 3 ( in thermal feeling and handling ) ? Many Thanks !!!
The following are my own opinions, but it's hard to judge when not comparing directly at the same day, weeks... Feeling in thermals: Ventus 3 > JS3 > AS 33, but they are all better than the ASG29. Forces on the aileron: both Ventus 3 and JS3 are better than AS33; ASG29 is good Forces on the flaps: JS3 > AS33 >= Ventus 3; ASG29 is good Ergonomics: AS33 > JS3 > Ventus 3
Nice video! How would you compare it to the AS 33 or the JS3? How does it compare to your ASG29? How is the feel in thermals? How does it handle? How smooth are the controls compared to these other gliders? Thanks.

Hi. Looks amazing fun. Given the speed you are flying and the fact that other pilots will enjoy ridge running. How do you mitigate the chance of hitting another glider going the other way? Thank you
We also have Flarm which is a collision avoidance warning system, the two boxes on the top of the instrument panel show other gliders and warn when you are in proximity / on a likely collision course, giving both visual and audio warnings of direction and distance.
@@guybeardsley1564 Flarm is compulsory for competitions and most of the gliders have one installed. At the end we are not flying IFR, so you must look to the outside of your cockpit. Flarm and other systems are just an aid.
