Good advice Jake. I just have to pick the right stand. If I sit in one stand they show up at a different stand. Sometimes cameras can add to the frustrations when hunting. At least I know there are some deer around. Good luck to everyone.
I also like to listen to music with just one ear bud in, volume very low, so other ear can still pick up noises on the ground. This helps break up the boredom on an all day hunt. Sunday afternoon football games on the radio through the ear buds also. 🙂
Years ago I did this several times in the old style climber stands. It is a very long and hard day when you don’t see much or even get close to taking a shot. You will be bone tired and your body will ache terribly. I was in my twenties and early thirties then. That’s when it pays off to make sure you’ve scouted well and are in an active area.
One of the biggest things I have found is to fight against being discouraged if nothing is happening. Don’t get flustered and start walking around looking for deer. Make a plan execute and if need be try a different location or area next time and just be aware of if you’re seeing fresh sign while walking to and from your spots
I agree with in season scouting but my property is small and that can push deer off my property so I in season scout but I know it can ruin the next 2 days for me
Bring a book. Preferably something with content that motivates you to be in the woods. Reading gets the eyes activated in moving back and forth instead of moving the head. Stay away from high sugar caffeine drinks that will compromise the capacity to be patient and create fidgety nervous movements.
A lot of great tips Jake. One thing I might add is staying Hydrated during these sits. It's obviously good to eat but drinking plenty of H2O helps the body stay warm, relieve muscle aches, etc.
My dad used to bring paper back westerns out with him to read. Read half a page look around, read half a page look around…. Breaks up the time for hours if not much is going on.
I did that a lot when I was still trying to accumulate mounts to hang on the wall, and still, the best bucks I’ve shot were taken in the first two hours of daylight, or in the last hour of daylight. All day sits are tough, and I’m just not that mad at them anymore.
All great tips !! This time of year Go hunt any 2/3 hr timeframe you get in the mornings. Sometimes i hunt a 9-1 pm or 10-2 whatever. Unfortunate her in Va first rut is winding down.
Great video. A quick question, is it worth it to do an all-day sit if it's a warm week? It's going to average in the mid-60's during rifle season here in central Nebraska, and from what I know, the deer really like to sit it out during the warmer times of day, and move most during the morning and evening hours. I'm wondering if an all-day sit would produce any success outside of those hours. Thanks!
I’m a bag of bones,,, no body fat at all. I sit all day and have found some things helped me a lot. I bought ski knee pads that go over all my base layer, but under my main camo. When I sit my knees poke out and my knees would freeze.(not to mention they stick out in the wind the most. Another thing that I ALWAYS have is a bunch of medium to small towels in my hunting bin. I use one a day, maybe 2, I fold it in half and put it ON MY BARE BUTT and keep it there with 2 pairs of underwear. Not only an extra cushion but it obsords crack sweat,, if u sweat it out, just get a new one out of your pack. (Scent treatment of course). I’m tellen ya, towel on your butt you will not get a cold sweat going.
Mega warmers and hand warmers and toe warmers lol i always have 2 12 hour mega warmers on deck along with mittens that fold out to expose fingers for shooting and hand warmers for the mittens. Im a different type though i dont meet many hunters that do it like me. I hunt off the ground with a butt pad and a fanny psck eith a 32 ounce water jug in it snd packed full of milkweed and my license and 2 knive and a flashlight and extra bstteries. Its no thing for me to skip eating for over 12 hours. I do it fishing too when the spring walleye and salmon run. When everyone else gets hungry i get comfortable. I seem to get better with the grittier things get for some reason. I perform very well under pressure.
I found an area on the property I hunt that has , at least ten scrapes within a 60 yard circle . But I also found a few scrapes in another area (5) and I found 2 BIG scrapes in an area near a very small beaver pond and it's super brushy on the other side of the pond . I really don't know what spot to hunt , I'm done with hunting the fields on that property, they were all over the fields before gun season now they don't come out into the fields at all during daylight
I don't understand why a decent bedding area can't be camped at dusk, to bag a deer when deer would be LEAVING it. Is it because deer will often bed down close enough to the edge of the cover to see out, and will see you set up?
Um no disrespect brotherman but my whole point of an all day sit is to, not leave the stand at all or disturb anything where I’m hunting , does included. Meaning very, very, minimal movement in the stand and definitely not getting down to hunt a different one, and then, a different one…. 🤷♂️
Be aware that using a phone (electronic communication) to communicate game location, at least in some states, is illegal. PA: "Portable, two-way radios and cellphones may be used for general communications with another hunter, but may not be used to direct or alert another hunter of the presence or location of live game or wildlife. Alerting hunters to live game not only is a violation of the Game & Wildlife Code, but violates the concept of fair chase"
Why does this sound like A Kamala Harris speech? See the thing about an all day sit is, your sitting, and it is all day, so basically all day your going to be sitting, which makes you a legal sitter!
The fantasy football updates while on stand is definitely a great way to do a Sunday all-day sit.

I anticipate your videos throughout the season for some tips to put towards my hunts. 4th year hunter at 33. Huge learning curve being self taught.

Big public land find fresh sign and sit on it once or twice if nothing move on. Public is much different then private

As usual good video Jake and good luck this year buddy

H20 for you and hunt H20 for the deer too they will skip food for breeding but they cannot live without water for very long
I usually make sure I’m drinking plenty of Old charter.

I like to watch hunting videos on YT during my all day sits.
You and me both!

Thanks for the tips!! staying warm is such a huge factor
Ive taken out a few deer while on my phone looking at car parts and buying stuff on Amazon, i just made sure to look up and around every 10-15 seconds

Try an all day sit in NY state during november/dec in a treestand. Almost impossible
I only have one plan, deer by 9 am
@@2cthetruth Time for breakfast, go back out at 230
@@2cthetruthMy taxidermist would not agree. I keep him busy.

What about toilet paper after eating? Got to find a cold log somewhere or grab a nice skinny tree to drop that load.
Always bring your binoculars
I think I am on your property or you are on mine in Ohio !!😅😅😅😊
What about having to use the bathroom? Lol. I use an empty water bottle. I guess if you have to #2 you’re screwed lol
Just pee out of the stand as long as there isn’t any deer around. Human urine doesn’t scare deer, I hold
mine as long as I can to refresh scrapes
Toilet paper and knife I can dig with in my pack. Always.

It’s no good trying to explain to someone of ignorants
