- Secret of the Sword trailer from a mid 80s VHS Tape. For some reason this particular trailer wasn't included in the DVD of Secret of the Sword released a while back so thought I'd share here. It may have been used in PAL released tapes only. Personally I think its better than the one included in the DVD.

I remember this.. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. My mom surprised me with taking me to the movies for this film. I was at the edge of my seat the hole time!! It was torture waiting for it to come out as the She-Ra tv show, but well worth it. I don't think there is any way there can ever be another version of this that will be as big of a hit, or impact as this animation. Now it would just be all computer effects, which would diminish the story. anyway, thanks for uploading it, brings all that excitement back I felt, before I saaw it and then after, knowing what they were showing in this preview....
And if they try to remake it it will never be the original. The original is the best.
I will never forget going to see this... I was 4 years old and I still remember the programme they gave us, a 3d picture of the Crystal Castle with 3d glasses and you could press out little she ra figures to play with.....best birthday ever still and I'm aged 40 lol 😆
I grew up watching this ad on my Zorro VHS, but never did manage to watch the movie. Thankfully, it seems to be available on TH-cam.
The bad guy becoming a heroine is THE major twist in this film and the trailer gave it away.
I had already seen the first five episodes of She ra before I ever saw the trailer.

Despite never being mentioned in He-Man series, She-Ra's Sword of Protection could be seen in couple of later episodes of He-Man series, standing in the background in Castle Greyskull, usually every time He-Man's Sword of Power was placed there.
Yeah, Origin of the Sorceress has a few She-Ra easter eggs.

that's due to how things behind the scenes played out
at the time He-man was a solo hero, his original story from the toyline was that he had no sister and his fight with skeletor had their two swords as two halves of the original blade used to safeguard castle greyskull.
The Horde was intended to be part of the He-Man toyline and show, but as the ratings were going down and He-man's show was going to be canceled, Filmation had the rights to the She-Ra toyline and they decided to integrate their characters into the He-Man universe which they did for the toylines by taking the Horde figures and making them part of the She-Ra toyline.
This is why She-Ra or Adora isn't mentioned in the series until Secret of the sword because she was never part of the main story until late in He-Man's production, but the seeds were being planted so that when She-Ra took over it was sort of a spiritual continuation of the Masters of the Universe line, which is also why She-Ra had lots of crossovers with He-Man.
yeah the history of this series is pretty weird and kinda cool with how the writers made some magic with combining two toylines that weren't related and making them part of the same story and universe
@ShanaReviews yes. They definitely did an excellent job and the continuity felt so natural. I just wish they had given He Man an origin story. Even if they did it as a flashback later on in the series when they were planting the seeds for She ra.
Wow, there's nothing secret about that sword with the trailer showing the whole story. Haha
This was the trailer I remember seeing as a kid & was used in the Aus/NZ released tapes of He-Man. If I remember it correctly it was a Australian company called CEL (short for Communications and Entertainment Limited) that distributed He-Man on VHS, some of them showing this trailer before viewing the episodes. Thanks for uploading this video...been trying to find this for years till now :)
No worries. Yeah you're right in that its from a CEL tape, Fat Albert's Christmas Special. I have two copies of the trailer, one from Fat Albert, another from a 2 episode video of He-Man. The Sword trailer on the He-Man tape was at the start so has deteriorated more than the one on Fat Albert which was after the feature. I can't imagine CEL made the trailer themselves as every other CEL tape with previews has widely available film trailers so its origin is a bit of a mystery.

I remember watching this trailer on a cassette somewhere in the mid-90s, I was like 6 years old.
I hope Kevin Smith adds She-Ra, Hordack, and Shadow Weaver in season 2 of Masters of the Universe.

the problem is the licensing issues. She-Ra is owned by Dreamworks while He-Man is owned by Mattel.
however at the end of S2 of the Netflix show, Hordak not only showed up and was voiced by Keith David, BUT it looks like that show is going to adapt Adora, but not as She-Ra, but her original planned origin as a brainwashed Horde member with a different alias (think Kara from My Adventures with Superman) it's unknown if they'll be able to make her into She-Ra, but one can hope
What for? To make her another strong female character girl boss that no one likes and who is only there to belittle Heman and show how much better she is? No thank you.

I'm not familiar with his regular speaking voice, but could this be George DiCenzo (Bow / Hordak) narrating? I mean, it's pretty obvious that this trailer was made by Filmation themselves, so why not the narration too?

I do wonder when the time will come when She-Ra and He-Man will reunite someday.
I know the Netflix series is planning to have their own Adora show up, but it feels like they're going with the original concept with her rather than what happened when Filmation got the rights to make a show based on the She-Ra toys and had it merged with the He-Man universe.

And on that day when Adora first held up the Sword of Protection and said those words 'For the Honor of Grayskull' a new Hero and a new legend for the forces of good was born and that new hero was She-Ra the Princess of Power.

We never had this trailer on UK tapes as far as I'm aware. This truly is a rare trailer indeed. I assume Entertainment Rights who owned the Filmation catalogue at the time of the BCI Eclipse DVD release, didn't have access to this trailer, hence why it wasn't included. This could be from an Australian/New Zealand video release perhaps, but I could be wrong?

Dude, now I know what movie had this trailer on it. Been 30 years since I saw it haha. My Nana had it on beta tape. Was like the rival to vhs in the 80's. What a nostalgia trip.
