    With a name like that I was hoping for a more performance oriented package versus a more visual/cosmetics package.

    I feel like were going back in time to the 2011 era when I purchased my first used pwc. Sea doo was driving the market prices higher and higher with more bells and whistles that are neat, but not really useful to the consumer. (Flashback to 2012) "Wow a sea doo with electronic suspension to smooth out the ride!! That's cool, but I really don't need that at $16k. I'm barely good with the 10-12K for a new lower end supercharged ski." Jet skis got so expensive then the sales fell on their face. "If I'm going to spend $20k on a ski, I could buy a good used boat for that much." Then sales started going to the Spark and Yamaha Ex era. Just give me a motor, handlebars, and a seat. People wanted to enjoy the water not take a second mortgage on their house to buy 2 jet skis and a trailer.

    What is with this comment section getting its nipples in a twist over this? Are people really that oblivious to R&D that they don't recognize a consumer test bed when they see one? This clearly exists purely to get consumer feedback on the steering damper, if people like it/ it actually works to stop bow hunting in heavy chop then it will almost certainly become an option on the standard RXP and likely the ST3 hull as well. Manufacturers always prefer to roll out new tech on a small proportion of their product line by sales where possible, it's why Honda put the first ever dual clutch automatic hybrid transmission (a dual clutch with a torque converter between the clutches and the flywheel) in the Acura ILX back in 2016 instead of putting it in the Accord, and it's why sea doo made a special edition here.
    And the people complaining that sea doo has barely changed its lineup since '22 need to realize that BRPs primary objective in '23 is and could only have been to get their supply chain issues ironed out so that people's expensive toys don't end up sitting at the dealer waiting on parts for months of prime season. A heavy redesign would have been anathema to that end and would have consumed the engineering resources being used to resolve that issue.

  • @davidmccomb7120
    @davidmccomb7120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, I like the looks of the Apex, carbon fiber really adds to the total package. I think it was smart to include the cover and passenger seat as I think most would buy them anyway. You can go out solo, or take the kids or who ever if its a group ride, gives you the best of both worlds. But with things the way they are in the world today, and many 2022 still sitting in crates waiting for parts... could be a long wait

    • @watercraftjournal
      @watercraftjournal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems like this year’s refresh of the lineup is an exercise in saving major handling/power/ergonomic improvements and a total redesign for later, and giving people just enough to be somewhat interested in paying the current market premiums for the newest machine out there. I feel like Sea-Doo could’ve done more here.

    • @flacjacket
      @flacjacket 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What it's about really is supply chain. BRPs objective is to ensure availability and delivery in 2023. A deep redesign would only exacerbate the delivery issues that are plaguing the industry.

    • @carthings7874
      @carthings7874 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flacjacket That can definitely factor into it, especially with the proposed total Spark redesign. I guess I sort of compare it to what Yamaha did with the rework of the GP. They kept it looking relatively the same, but changed a bunch of details to dynamically improve the riding experience. It seems like Sea-Doo is doing the opposite. Not changing much of the dynamic experience and only changing appearance. The ski will sell though, no question… It’s limited, exclusive, and probably expensive. People will lap it up.

      @Steve-yr5vi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the Seadoo GTR and Yamaha FX SVHO, the Seadoo accelerates quicker but has a lower top speed. The GTR is for racing and getting around a course quicker is it's focus. The FX is a cruiser, is very quick yet quick isn't its focus. In comparison the GTR will literally shoot out from your grip and from under you if you're not consciously prepared for it when accelerating from a stop or low speeds. I like FX for that reason I use it for tow sports vs. the GTR because its' just easier, many that ride both say this. However if you want to get out and just have a fun turning and popping over waves, etc the GTR is your ride, just about anyone will get carried away with the playing on the GTR. However if fast cruising is the activity, the FX shows up as the PWC of choice. The GTR does have eco-mode which works if you're wanting to get a lot of distance, it reduces acceleration and top speed is 52, which honestly is plenty especially if the water is rough. Both are a lot of fun for different reasons, I like having both options on my pier. Ginger or MaryAnn of PWC's. My FX is older, I do think we'll replace it with another one, originally we were gonna buy two Sea-Doo's however a GTR (not our first choice) and a slightly used FX SVHO were what we could get.

    I only heard that the Steering Column was reinforced with Carbon Fiber which leads me to believe that much of the Steering Column is still primarily a Plastic? or a Composition of Plastics and Carbon Fiber? What about the Carbon Fiber Hood and Mirror sections? Are these actually made of Carbon Fiber? or of a Faux Carbon Fiber for Visual Appeal only? I personally purchased a used 2015 GTX iS 260 Limited more than 2 years ago and I personally have accumulated well over 100 Hours on my Ski, I've had to make numerous repairs to my Ski during ownership, but nothing has ever gone wrong with the intelligent Suspension (iS), a Technology that Sea Doo chose to drop after the 2016 Model Year? Some say that Sea Doo dropped the Suspension Ski's because they were dificult to work on? I'm a Retired Professional Wrench (1974-2018 mostly on European Cars, Audi's primarily) and I have found my Suspension Ski much easier to work on than Audi's and other European Vehicles. I'm currently 66 Years of age, I pilot my Ski like I Stole it in the smooth to extremely Choppy Bay waters of Galveston Texas and in the Gulf of Mexico. If it weren't for my Ski having Suspension I wouldn't have put half the Hours on it as I have. Suspension Ski's are/were a Game Changer. Randy AKA randog311

      @@watercraftjournal Doesn't seem to be much more work than Engine access on a Spark? I've never had to completely remove the upper deck. Only repairs I can foresee requiring removal of the upper deck would be to remove the Engine and possibly to replace the Engine Mounts (I believe that I could possibly replace the Engine Mounts with the rear Suspension Hinge raised, Dog House, Supercharger, Intake Manifold, Exhaust Water Box and the Drive Shaft removed)? Regardless, at most add an aditional Hour to raise the rear Suspension and remove the Dog House which I've done several times. Sounds to me to be more of a case of the Mechanics (as a Pro Wrench myself, I never liked being referred to as a Technician) "not wanting too" rather than the actual Man Hours added to the time spent. @randymueller2349 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@watercraftjournal Hello Kevin, if indeed it was necessary to completely remove the upper deck, a ceiling mounted winch would be one option, a far less expensive option would be to use a common automotive type "Cherry Picker" engine hoist/crane. My 2015 Ski currently has 174 Hours on it, I've never had to completely remove the upper deck. To perform most invasive Servicing or Maintenance, begin by first overriding the iS and raising it to the maximum height, then removing the swim platform along with Port side storage bin followed by removing the pair of trim pieces between the Stern storage bins the eight 8mm x 1.25 bolts are accessible. Mark the location of the slotted aluminum rear hinge mount, once these 8 Bolts are removed the back of the upper deck swings up under spring tension, then tie the hinge up out of the way using the Tow Eye and the Grab Rail. Now the Dog House can be unbolted and removed giving more than adequate access to perform most Maintenance or repairs such as repair or servicing the Supercharger, Intercooler, Carbon Seal, installation of an aftermarket Bilge Pump and much more (adds about an extra Hour Extra to the job of servicing the Supercharger over that of a non-suspension Ski). FYI: On more than one occasion I've R&I'ed the *Throttle Body* through the access panel under the seat. Iv'e also had the* Fuel Pump Module* in and out of the Tank numeus times by lifting out the front watertight Storage Bin and removing the 4 Bolts securing the forward Hull Vent and Hoses to gain limited access (have to work mostly Blind and by feel). Footnote: *I wouldn't recommend these limited access method's be attempted by a Novice. Randy AKA randog311
