    This video is a repost from last summer and re-edit without music for your viewing pleasure. More people have perished on this trail compared to any other off-road trail in Colorado, including Black Bear Pass. This is not Colorado's hardest trail, not by a long shot. It doesn't make sense to compare this trail to Carnage Canyon, 21 Road, Independence, Patriot or any of the extreme rock crawling trails in Colorado. This trail is actually pretty easy but the exposure is there and the trail is extremely narrow. It is more narrow than Black Bear Pass. This is the full trail section starting at the top of Devil's Punchbowl and heading into the small town of Crystal.

    Hey thanks for the new version without music. I like the real sounds on the trail much better especially when I hike, don't do the ear phones either. My 4x4 now is a 2006 Tundra double cab with bed platform and drawers so not so rough of trails, but would still do Pomeroy and Ptarmigan Lakes though.

      @Colorado4x4  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You bet! Yea I should have just left the music off the first one! I learned my lesson though. The music is so bad. It’s hard to find decent copyright free music, but I’ve mostly left it out except for my black Bear video. I found some good music for that one and turned the music down some and turned up the Jeep sounds. That Tundra can go a lot of places! You could take it on this trail, just the wheelbase would require some good spotting on that tight spot but you could do it.

    On the pucker factor scale, this one is definitely a 10! I've been on backpacking trails in Colorado wider than this road 😁😜. Thanks for reminding me again why I won't be doing Schofield Pass anytime soon. Or Black Bear Pass for that matter!

      Yes, John. This trail was nerve wracking and it is narrow for a LONG time. It’s great though! I want to run it again and get some drone footage next summer. This trail, to me, was spookier than Black Bear. Thanks for watching. - Geoff

      I rode the passenger seat down Devil's Punchbowl from Schofield Pass to Crystal Mill about 40 years ago in a CJ while my father-in-law drove. It was indeed "butt-puckering". As I recall the boulder in the middle of the trail had much less clearance going around it then. In 2007 I lead my brother and my brother-in-law down the same trail on ATV's, which was much more manageable, but still nerve-wracking. It was fun watching your video but at 67, I don't see me taking my 2019 Rubicon Unlimited 4-door down that trail ever. I believe those days are behind me now (albeit glad to have the memories). Should we feel the need to see Crystal Mill again we'll come in the backway from Marble.
      As always, thanks much for sharing.

    This is nice, I like it with the vehicle in front so we can see how they fit through. No problem here if you are careful even though it is very narrow. Problem is what to do if you meet someone on some parts. Almost impossible to back up for either vehicle. I like Black Bear Pass better because of the scenery. Thanks for sharing.

    • @Colorado4x4
      @Colorado4x4  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I appreciate it! You are right, it’s really not a hard trail, you just need to keep your wheels on the road. It would have been a terrible issue if we would have ran into a group coming up as we would have had to reverse out quite a ways. There really is only one spot to get another rig around and that is where that big rock is in the video. I agree too that Black Bear had better scenery but this trail is 100% worth it! - Geoff

    I'd planned on doing this one in a few weeks, but it looks too narrow for an H3. This makes the Tomichi/Hancock/Tincup/Cumberland loop we did last year look easy.

    • @Colorado4x4
      @Colorado4x4  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not difficult, just narrow as you can see and spooky. Go out an measure outside tire to outside tire. My Jeep measures 79” from outside tire to outside tire. I can’t really say how much room I had on the passenger side on the way down but I just kept my driver tires as close to the wall as possible! Your wheelbase should be similar 🤷🏻‍♂️

      It’s a two way trail. We ran it downhill here from Crested Butte to Marble because we stayed in Crested Butte the night before and we wanted to have lunch and beers at Slow Groovin’ BBQ in Marble!
