It shook me when Vanessa said it could be an estate agent it could be anybody. I am 82 years old now but when I was a young teenager I went to work for an estate agents. It was a small company in Holborn London. The two bosses who were a married couple only came in about twice a week and had a young manager. He was married, made passes and outright asked me to have a baby by him. It was a horrible situation and when I refused he got me sacked from the job by telling the bosses I was not co-operative in my work. I told the bosses the truth and also told them how he was sexually harassing a temporary worker. It was clear they believed me but I was more dispensable than him. I can truly appreciate the fear young women must have felt in such a terrible situation.
I also knew at the time of police corruption where police were taking bribes and lying concerning a family situation. Money has power.

In my life I have come very close to the "wealthy elite ".
My girlfriend at the time (1990/96) was a P.P.S. in chief to a Arab sheikh , she was English blond beautiful and young.
Her duties included arranging world wide visits to the very highest events including U.S. presidential inorgerations.
One of the duties was to supply women for,
    'entertainment' on these trips.
I was uncomfortable with this part of her job then one day she told me she had been sexually assaulted by a one of her bosses cousins.
I tried to persuade her to report it to the police but she declined because she was on a mouth watering salary car and huge flat in Kensington.
I could not get her to see that this was criminal but I understood why.
This is so deep and I am so proud that these women are being heard finally.
The real question now is whether anything will be done but trust me l know what is being said is true .

I am older than Vanessa and I don’t know any woman who has not had men expose themselves to her and harassed them sexually and in the 60s and 70s, groping was considered normal and women being sacked, because they didn’t go along with it was just part of life, and you didn’t mention it unless someone said it happened to them and you said oh him, yes, me too.

Vanessa's recollection of events, involving Mohammed Al Fayed show the effect, and differences in treatment, depending on the power disparity at play. Obviously, MAF was an incredibly wealthy man, who was accustomed to manipulating and imposing his will (particularly, noted by other accounts, on pretty, blonde women); however, on this occasion, despite his best efforts, Vanessa Feltz had enough power; as a wealthy, married woman, and media star, in her own right, that she could still rebuff him. I dread to think what occurred to 19 year old nail techs and make up artists; cornered at a staff party...

I worked many times on Harrods windows and only when Al Fayed took over were we aware of an edict that no black mannequins must ever be in the windows. Even when they had a Christmas window scheme one year where each window was dedicated to a different country there was an African window (yes I know it’s a country not a continent🤷🏼‍♀️), but we had to use pale coffee coloured mannequins to represent ‘Africa’.
