A hard start kit allowed me to run my HVAC from a portable generator (8000 W). Prior to the hard start it wasn't able to handle it.
Did you have a 30 or 50 amp coming from the generator? What size AC?
@@way2kul4any1 30 amp from the generator and the AC is a 4 ton heat pump.
Hard Starts just sends more power to the start winding to spin up the motor faster. The hard start capacitor doesn't send a "surge of power".
I just had a friend install the micro air soft start unit. I didn’t get a good before reading but the panel sticker shows 124A startup and 24a running. With soft start is is 27a starting and 10a running. Not sure why they aren’t in all air conditioning units

A hard start capacitor isnt taking "load" off of the generator, i believe it's just giving you A) a better power factor at start to reduce the apparent amps, and B) starting the unit before the generator or inverter protection circuit has time to trip.
It's still putting a huge load on the generator, unlike soft start.
So if I was told my compressor was bad, my air is not blowing very cold, my a c turns on, but was told the compressor it's bad.Will this help?

Hard start amp looked like same high amps so how is that taking high amps hard star just takes away quicker doesn't reduce in4ush
Is there a VFD for AC compressor that is in the sa.e price range?
For the price of the Easy Start; which is no longer selling the smaller ones, I would like to have more data. Like... How much electricity is it going to save me? If it doesn't then how many years is it going to add to my A/C unit? Don't have answer to these questions? Then just so I can use a smaller generator is not a good investment criteria. Easy Start priced themselves out of the market buy just selling the commercial units only. End of story.
Why do not the AC manufacturers make these an option or sell them with their AC new?

Soft. Hard start will usually start the machine faster than designed, wearing out the compressor faster

LRA is locked rotor amps. Not inrush.
Can you measure the hard start's startup & running amps just like the soft start's 150A/40A? I understand both reduces the initial startup amps.
A soft start Will damage your compressor over time. A compressor plus labor change could cost you 2-3 thousand dollars. Ask a HVAC guy about the pros and cons of a soft start not a TH-camr

How will a soft start damage the compressor? Overheating from sustained amps on the windings during a slow startup?
Yeah trust the same lowlife who charge the elderly $400 to swap out a $15 capacitor. Yeah trust those guys.

They literally work in opposite ways. Whichever one is connected last is what it's doing
