I love that sound!! Had to sell my last Hummingbird a few years back and really want another one as soon as I can. To my ear, there’s nothing else like it.
Yeah, same. I bought one in 2012, but fell on tough times and had to move country, so I ended up selling it in 2019. 🙁 I'm planning on taking a trip to the USA or UK next year to replace it (Gibsons are hard to come by where I live). I just hope that this particular model is still in circulation in 2024. I don't want them to do any drastic changes on the next reissue of the Hummingbird. This is just how I like them. It has that same beautiful finish as my old one; I don't like the natural ones or the overly red or tobacco versions. It also has the vintage tuners with the gold hardware, which look so good against the finish. I swapped out the chunky, chrome Grover tuners on my Hummingbird to these. Personally, I think a Gibson headstock looks way better with vintage tuners.👌🏻 Haha, the only problem is that I have been watching a ton of Martin guitar videos recently as well, so I also have my eyes set on either a D-18 or D-28. I'm going to have to try them all out and really think about what I want. Do I replace something that I loved and lost (Gibson), or do I get something new (Martin)? 🤷🏻♂
My 1st electro was Vintage vec380, then played Sierra sunrise (close strings, good neck, nice sound), listening to inspiring tunes from (Ibanez aew etc), now hearing Gibson sound and thats stunning..
A good one is a strummers delight. they have this special presence to them. Not as direct as a J45 and sometimes that's a really good thing. The Hummingbird vintages are stellar. I love how even the tone is up the fret board and with open neck chords.
Always wanted new bird with vintage tuners and 7.2 nut width without the thermally aged top of the tv or historic. Also noticed that the nut width on the historic is narrower. I can't do under 1 1/3 or 7.2.
Got mine 3 years ago very reasonable price used, 2010 model much the same as this. Love it. It has a very special feel and tone. BTW it hates Martin strings.
That particular hummingbird is definitely a keeper. Btw- have you ever compared the hummingbird with the Gibson C&W? That’s also an outstanding guitar as well.
Both wonderful guitars. Gibson acoustics get some bad press these days; unjustified in my opinion. Some superb guitars coming out of the Bozeman factory...
Sweet! I've never been a huge Hummingbird fan and I fully expected to be unimpressed, but I have to admit...the guitar sounded really nice. Full. Balanced. Nice highs and bottom end. But for the price...I think I'd go with the Martin 000-18 or D-18. (Or both, for almost the same price as the Hummingbird.) ;-)
Martin’s are completely different in their voicing. The ‘bird has its own vibe and has been used by countless musicians on countless records just like a D18. Can you say Keith Richards.
@@jimmy5634 Absolutely. And might as well toss in the venerable J-45 and the monstrous J-200 as well. All iconic sounds in their own right. I just feel that in some ways the Hummingbird, while beautiful, was a bit more show and less go. But that's just me. (And I'll just add that for a long time I felt that Martins were somewhat overrated. But the older I get the more I appreciate what they bring to the table.)
Nice work Ian, all your videos are brilliant (a fan of your music too!) So do you demo these, or are they all your own guitars. Must admit, both the Sheryl Crow models are amazing- and I’m not one for signature models.
I am guitar dealer! I wish these were all mine.... I have a 2013 Sheryl Crow model myself, not because I am a fan, but because it is a sweet guitar... She must have great taste in Gibson acoustics.
Ian, love your videos and playing... 👍 Which would you choose between? J-45 Standard, D-18 or the Hummingbird like this one in this video ? Thats one of those 1 in 20 Gibsons that just somehow sounds better than the previous identical 19 they made.
