- In this video I show you how you can print larger than the 6.75 x 9.25 inch restriction that is currently on the print and cut feature in design space.
Using the slice tool you will split the image in half! This will allow you to print your image and join it together when placing your decal or heat transfer or whatever material you are using. You can slice images into four if you want even larger images!

Ok is there a video where you show the 2X or 3x, and also what if the sublimation paper isn’t big enough like a regular sheet of paper. Or do you just fit each separate image onto the sub paper?

I am glad that this video is helpful to folks. I will try to answer as many questions as possible. I do teach how to use design space and your machines in my Facebook group Coco brown Creations. One thing that is very different about my teaching environment is I don’t allow or encourage negativity or judgement. I will shut that down. Once you print from another program how do you calculate the Cricut to cut it?
so how do you cut after you have printed using the cricut. Also I tried slicing and used heat resistant tape and when I pulled the tape off, it also pulled out color how did you resolve this?

so glad i ran into this video. Just getting started and learning anything i can. When I say just getting started I mean like 3 days old. so im a baby at this LOL when yo mentioned going to word and said print on regular paper...was that just to see how it came out or are you using regular aper to transfer image over when heated? sorry for the uneducated questions.

Thank you for not making this video super long and very direct to the point. Can you tell me how you added the blood splatters to the shirt?
I used red ink from a pen for my first shirt. After about 2 washes it faded to pink. The next one I made I actually googled blood spatter images and printed them on printable vinyl aka heat transfer sheet. I used light transfer one. I cut them and placed them randomly. That looked way better and didn't fade. You could also use sublimation instead of heat transfer sheets.

How did you cut it after the using word?
Love it! If you do it in Word, how did you cut it afterwards? By hand?
Because I was using a light heat transfer sheet on a light garment I did not need to use my machine to cut it. If I’m doing sublimation or heat transfer on like I often times will just trim the image by tearing it or cutting it quickly just to remove excess paper. If I was to be doing this on dark heat transfer or card stock, etc I would upload the cut file (outline) of the image. In the video you will see how I choose the print and cut option for checking and not the cut file. And then I slice the image and bring it over to Word. You would do a second step by uploading the image repeating the same steps but this time you would choose a cut file. Whatever the size is for your complete image when it is put together, that is how big your cut file would be. I actually got the idea from watching people making over sized standees. If you ever watch any of those videos it’s the same concept. I will definitely have to make a video on how I go about cutting things. Because it differs depending on what I’m working with material wise. I will try to make a follow up video for this

I don't know why, but this totally didn't work for me! When I sent the project to the printer it came up with four different pieces to be cut, on the same 9.25 x 6.75 page....they didn't even look like they were mirrored images of the same shape! any thoughts?

I use NuFun brand. I like 3g opaque for my dark transfer sheets as well.
And do you hand cut it??

When you print from word or paint how do you get your cricut to cut it out for you ?
You'll have to cut it yourself from Word and Paint. And if you cut it with Cricut, it leaves white lines. Meaning Cricut cuts off some part of the image when you slice it. You'll have little missing pieces of your image when you go to put it together like a puzzle. That's the Con of Cricut. (B.t.w. If you know how to fix that white line/missing pieces problem, please let me know) The Pro of Cricut is it'll give a clean cut. The Con of Word and Paint, you'll have to cut it out yourself. The Pro of Word and Paint, it'll print out the FULL IMAGE, minus the white lines/ missing pieces.

Also, I’m confused as to why you print on another program. Does printing from cricut not work as well?
For your first question about overlapping. If you try to line it up precisely you will have a gap. I have learned through my experience that if you try to line the papers up you will end up seeing a line on your garment. You have to have a slight overlap of the papers. For your second question as to why I print on another program. Because design space has printing limitations. 6.75 x 9.25 is extremely limiting. When I do my sublimation prints or other images I need to print up to 13 x 19“. So I use another program to do that like Photoshop or affinity word or I print directly from my files. It’s to avoid the printing limitations of cricut design space.

How do you get rid of the break line when you slice
If you’re talking about when you are pressing it on your garment I slightly overlap my image maybe 1/32 of an inch. That way you don’t end up having a line and it’s completely seamless
So how do you get the picture to print from word, get it on the transfer paper while also cutting it? I thought that you had to use cricut to have it evenly cut out, I’m just a little confused how you were able to get the image cut and get it on transfer with word. If you could help me that would great!
When you print on heat transfer sheets, you load it in your printer like reg paper. I used light transfer paper so no need to cut. Its like sublimation, the white background doesn't transfer. Just your image. No need to cut, you can trim around the image if you'd like. For dark transfer you would need to cut. The process requires a second step of uploading the image as a CUT not print and cut. You have to size it the same height and length as your sliced image put together. Then you would print your sliced image on your transfer sheets, tape your papers together (look up all over sublimation shirt to see how they "tile" the papers together, also check out oversized standeez with cricut). Once together you would need to place on your mat exactly as it shows in your screen. Move things around until it looks right. Then cut.

Has to be transfer paper cus you can’t print onto the vinyl. It’s too many colors
I will only hand cut if I’m using light heat transfer sheet on a white shirt. If I was doing this on a dark shirt I would also use heat transfer sheets and I would not hand cut it because I don’t want any of the white background to show.
5:28 That's the problem with the slice method. It always leaves some part of the image out. And if you overlap it, it won't be lined up together perfectly. It'll be uneven. There's still no video on how to fix that. I'm a perfectionist also. And that tiny white line drives me CRAZY! 😂 Especially when there's multiple pieces, and there's white lines EVERYWHERE!
It still tells me that the image is too large , & to reduce it to 6 inches :(

For this specific project I was using light heater transfer sheets So I just trimmed around it with my scissors. If I was doing something like this that required the cut, I would use the Silhouette or the outline of the design and bring that into my cutting program. Whatever size it tells me it is in word, I put that dimension into cricut. Then I will place My papers down onto my mat where it shows me it’s going to cut it out. If it’s simple I’ll just cut it by hand.

I hand cut it. I’m usually doing sublimation or heat transfer sheets. For this particular project wasn’t a big issue or detail cutting. I only use my maker for cut files. Anything that Involves printing I generally bypass my cricut or my silhouette cutting machines.
You can always use your snipping tool on a PC or your screenshot feature on your device to take a picture of the sliced images From whatever program. You can then upload into design space like a picture and just upload all of the images. You’ll have to resize them to make sure that they look good and you can then cut from design space

I was just about to ask this question
Whatever the dimensions are in word I plug those dimensions into design space. In order to know the true dimensions you have to remove the background of whatever image you are using if it’s not a traditional rectangle shaped picture. I hope that makes sense. So for Chucky the background looks white but I actually removed it so it was transparent. Then you will know the true width and height of your picture image or character or what have you. If you go to the format tab in Microsoft Word and select your picture it will tell you exactly what the width and the length is. Those are the numbers that she will use in design space. The only differences is that she will not be doing a print and cut you will just do the cut. So when you upload the image into design space with a transparent background you choose the cut option. Then plug in the numbers and send it to your mat. Now comes the tricky part because you have to line it up on your mat exactly how it looks on the screen.

You can use design space for sure. I use word because I can make larger. Just remember you have a size restriction of 6.75 x 9.25 in design space. If that's not large enough for your design after slicing into 2, slice into 4 pieces. "Tile" it together and press.
The slice option is greyed out for me I cannot even click it as an option ?????
If the slice option is grayed out its because of 2 things. 1- you only have one item/layer selected. 2- you have more than 2 items/layers selected.
When designing images (print and cut) you have to flatten all the layers into one. For text and others (cut), you have to weld first.
Then select 2 items at a time and slice.
HOW DO I GET THE GRID OFF TO DO A SNIP
Top left corner between the numbers on the computer, click until it goes away. On iPad you go to your settings to turn it off.

Yes. For this particular shirt I was using light heat transfer sheet on a white shirt so I didn’t have to do really detail cutting I just cut the majority of the excess off. If I was doing this on a dark shirt using dark transfer paper I would definitely have to hand cut it with detail. Anytime you cut something outside of design space you’re gonna have to do it by hand. The problem is is that design space can only cut up to 6.75 x 9.25. Before I had the machine I used to do a lot of hand cutting because I’m a seamstress so it doesn’t bother me that much to have to hand cut something out every now and then. But yes if this is something that you don’t care to do I would suggest making your image small enough to do it in design space

Cricut is a cutting machine. When you purchase one of their machines, you download and use a program called Cricut Design Space to create your designs and use the machine to cut material. The program is only for people who have a machine and you can use it on an iPad, laptop or computer.

I typically make my decals really big. For a3X shirt I would do it 12 or 13 inches wide. The same steps are going to apply here but you may need to use more than two pieces to do so. Another technique that I will encourage you to research is oversized printing for standees. That is when you take a larger than life piece of foam board and make a dinosaur or a Dora the explorer out of. I will try to make a video when I get back to town on how to do this and make a updated video
