- Locomotives dressed as Thomas have been a thing since the Rev. Awdry was still alive, but cars weren't so much a thing. So, I decided to do a deep dive into the history of a Thomas replica car that was built to promote Shining Time Station!

I dated a guy in 1990 that volunteered on The Black River and Western Railroad in Ringos NJ. One day Shining Time Satiation come to film a scene at The Black River and Western Railroad in Ringos NJ. The scene was when Becky looked into the picture machine in the Shining Time Station Christmas special Tiss A Gift with hobo riding in the mail car. This when I saw the Thomas shown in this video. I also saw it being driving on the road. I wish they could find Thomas and go around the country using it for all Thomas thing, so kids and adult Thomas can see this.
I still love that scene and musical number.
It would've been cool to see this Thomas being in the 90s Macys Parade

I remember the Thomas replica. My older brother saw it, but I didn't see it because I was a baby at the time. I do have the picture of the Thomas replica with my brother.
Excellent video! I remember seeing this Thomas at the NYBG in January 2010 and always wanted to know the history of this specific Thomas. Very sad about the Pegasus tugboat being scrapped however, I've seen it in person.
I remember seeing this replica in the advertisement for the TATMR Sweepstakes (more about that in a second), and the trailer for Kids for Character, it didn’t occur to me that they were the same replica and I didn’t find out until last year I think.
Speaking of the TATMR Sweepstakes, that needs to be the next thing this fandom investigates! We need to track down whoever won and see if we can get a story, some pics, and maybe a video.
I remember seeing the ad for the sweepstakes and begging my folks to help me enter! My old man sent in a stack of postcards for me. I didn’t win, but it was fun!

The replica kind of reminds me of The Thomas Remote Magical Engine that was released in 1992 by Playtech . By the way great video man !, lets hope thomas is found .
Nice video and believe it or not, I actually remembered this replica. I even had a couple encounters with it before. It stopped by at the Great New York State Fair for a couple of appearances from what I can gather during the late-2000's, even before I signed up onto TH-cam officially in 2008 and it was a great experience seeing it. Truly worth seeing in person.

This is simply a magnificent history of the car Thomas The Tank Engine replica. I personally have seen this up close at The Black River and Western Railroad Flemington NJ in the 1990’s. I also saw this car Thomas The Tank Engine replica driving down a highway. I also believe this is the same Thomas I saw at The World Trade Center NYC in the 1990’s for a Thomas fan event. At this Thomas fan event I had my picture taken with Thomas. I still have the photo today. On Saturday October 15, 2022 I’m going to Northlandz in Flemington NJ for a Thomas event and they are having a Thomas live show. I’m wonder if this Thomas is going to be used for there Thomas Live Show?
This is not the Thomas that will be at northlandz. We still don't know where this one is. The one at the show will be a custom built stage Thomas as this is a traveling show that can go anywhere
I actually remember that Thomas in Botanical Gardens. I actually got inside despite not being allowed to. My picture was taken in 2009, so I guess this was his last year in NYBG. :(

I spoke to the museum owner when I was there. He said that it was hard to raise the funds to keep her maintained and to pay the fee for running a tugboat that old through the harbor. The coast guard wasn't too happy about a vessel that old shuttling across the harbor so they got a decent fee to let her run.

That wouldn't be a bad idea! Many more people have done research on them but I'll put that on the bucket list for video ideas

Me and my dad once tried to make a custom kid sized Thomas road buggy by recycling my little sisters old kid motor four wheeler by using wheels and motor, and then build a wooden running board over, and building the rest of the body structure out of pink foam. We also used the original steering handles from the four wheeler and put inside where the smokebox is and was meant turned using your feet, which sadly lead to me accidently causing the wheels to loosen up and fall off.

You would find this ain't abit of Thomas history. If you wanna know about Thomas history you gotta look at the original British. Cause Shinning Time Station was only known in the US and Canada. That's why the 2000 movie of Thomas & the Magical Railroad was a complete flop. I'm British and I was a huge fan of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends. The movie killed it off for me and the CGI series have definitely killed it off.
This wasn't about the show. This was just looking at this specific car that was built to look like Thomas. I think the title and opening 2 minutes make that very clear.

But also, Shining Time Station also aired in New Zealand and Mexico.
Honestly, it's not a replica at all. To call it a replica would imply it's a 1:1-accurate recreation, but this is far from it. It's just a mediocre large-scale Thomas prop. Still though, I hope it's found.
