One thing to note is that, Intro Skipper's repo has been archived 3 months ago for whatever reason, so things may break next update assuming it's archived for good. Right now there are 2 forks with high star by endrl and Bobby306.
Whatever critics people could mention, I do not care at all. This is the best open source media server I've ever seen in my life. I can't believe how well it works and how smart it is and accurate for picking up metadata. I'm beyond impressed with this
Just a note merging multiple versions of a move into one is built into jellyfin by default. For example Folder: Titanic (1997) [imdbid-#####] - Titanic (1997) [imdbid-#####] -720P - Titanic (1997) [imdbid-#####] - Extended Cut - Titanic (1997) [imdbid-#####] -2160P This will result in all 3 versions sowing up in one entry and you can select which one is played
Switched to Jellyfin a couple of months ago after a decade of using Kodi. The UI is much slicker but in all those years using Kodi, I can't remember it ever refusing to play any format I threw at it. Jellyfin's built-in player frequently does this, and I find myself regularly having to switch between external apps, MX player and VLC, and none of them seem to be able to just play anything the way Kodi did.
i dont use jellyfin a lot for video actually, but good to see that plugin exist, i like the skip intro i rarely watch trailer, and i want no thumbnail to avoid spoil but hard to find an app like that
Hey you are recommending some great plugins there. I just installed both Jellyscrub and Introskipper and neither work out of the box. It would be great if you could make a video on more detail about the installation as both have some prerequisites that need to be covered apart from just installing the plugin.
main thing i did was just install the plugin as suggested and remember you have to clear the cache or jellyfin or intro-skipper will not inject properly
Jellyscrub or rather Trickplay is now a feature of jellyfin and Jennyscrub now only allows you to convert your old files to the native Jellyfin format. Pretty cool. Another must for multi-service setups is the LDAP and SSO-plugin with a good auth-provider like Authentik to provide easy auth for Web and native clients (they cannot use the SSO plugin as they cannot use the browser to use SSO like this)
the problem with Jellyfin for me, is that on my samsung tv (installed with developer account), the server on my fedora linux, in my laptop intel+nvidia, the quality of plex is much better.
I've watched plenty of videos now to hopefully find plugins to add seriously cool functionality and maybe add access to new stuff or plug in to other streaming services and stuff. I expected to find a lot of lame videos about how to use jellyfin with some shady plugins to commit mass piracy, but I was surprised to be underwhelmed that most plugins are literally just alternate repositories for thumbnails and movie info.
Excellent video man. No filler, no crazy emotions or loud noises or any of the other nonsense that's par for course these days. I gotta get a jf server setup again . Gotta stop being lazy.
I just installed Jellyfin. I haven't uploaded any TV shows yet but Im hoping it will nest the episodes under the show name so I dont have to scroll though tons of episode thumbnails to get to another show. If so, I hope there is a plug-in for that.
In the documentation it says you can name files with a version tag in brackets; no need for a merge plug in. I’ve been using that for over a year to keep 4k and 1080p files consolidated in the UI. Even works for different cuts of the same movie.
hey any suggestions on how to handle subtitles? I have that opensubtitles plugin set up, with credentials, but it seems to be very limited (only 20 subs per day?) and it will take weeks for everything to be added. Is it possible to somehow manually queue a tv show to have subtitles for that ASAP?
My jellyfin installed on windows 10, next and previous button on playback screen are not working, which jellyfin version are you using, does these buttons work?
excuse me good sir, you left the intro skipper repo link out of the video description section. I had to go back & pause your video , then manually type it to get it. please fix this.
@@starlitsnake Already did everything, brigde mode, port forwarding etc and nothing works about remote access, someone told me my ips have cgnat and don't give me a real ip that's why i can reach my server outside my local network.
@@AlphaDeFcOn4 Oh, if you use cellular internet or similar where they give you an IP like 192.168.x.x/172.16.x.x/10.x.x.x then there’s not much you can do. You’re better off using something like Tailscale for a free VPN, or I guess you could also make it publicly available with a Cloudflare tunnel but you’d need to own a domain name.
@@AlphaDeFcOn4 Who is your ISP? IF you have an ISP that uses Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT) then you'll probably have trouble getting help from most people because it's not that common for most ISPs. You will find threads on Reddit and other places that will answer your question on how CGNAT and port forwarding CAN be handled using Port Control Protocol (PCP) but I believe this is all dependent on your ISP supporting it. If you don't have CGNAT then you're just doing something wrong because port forwarding a regular modem/router setup is relatively simple. Best of luck.
@@AlphaDeFcOn4 When dealing with troublesome isp's you have two options. Create a vps in the cloud or use a trustless network like tailscale. Of the two tailscale is easier to setup.
Has Jellyfin become more consistent in playback and behavior in the past year? And have they done anything to make it not look ugly? I've tried multiple times and just can't use it over Plex.
Anyone figure out how to auto play any video? I did the check box and still wont auto play. A plugin that would do a video shuffle mode would be great too.
im very new at this stuff.. so i just made my own jellyfin server with my main PC right now. it got r5 57500f and an rx 6600.. its been running for like 3 days. and before it uses the CPU . Theres no issue as far as I can remember and itr works fine. there's only 2 client in my house. living room tv and my parents tv. I'm saving the movie files on an external SSD. (this is why it trying to use my old dell optiplex as an server so that I can use an internal storage too) but. today while I was watching the movie from living room tv it got sick sick sick lots of buffer. the first 8-10 minutes it works fine. smooth but after that it buffers a lot and stuttering. i haven't tried hardware acceleration since I know my CPU is capable doing this. 2 tv, only mkv 1080p format with x264 sdr (most of it) I got some HEVC/ x265 file. and I'm only downloading the file in 1080p. my upload speed is about 15 Mbps average. my question is How can I fix this? should I use the hardware accell? should I change my server from this PC to the dell optiplex 3020 which has an older CPU and GPU? Should I change to my i7 3370 and rx 570 (old pc)? Note I am not someone who understand coding or anything. I'm very new at this topic. so pls explain it as easy as u can... THANKS! I just realised my CPU in task manger didn't put his effort into it. last night I updated my windows 11... does that could be the problem?
Unfortunately jellyfin can not provide direct play content to a smarthone or a table for example but it is installed with docker. It works as expected but all the time any movie works with transcoding only even on LAN where the bandwidth is more than enough. PLEX and Emby can direct play with no issues (tried exactly the same mkv 4k files) but are native installs, not docker. DO you have any idea what the issue might be? Thanks.

Also, as far as I remember introskeeper worked only with theweb browser player. Didnt work with an android tv player.
Also, it doesn't work by chapters, it analyses the audio and "guesses" where the intro is by how similar it is to other items in the same series/show.

Double NAT is your server is behind two routers. You need to set up port forwarding on one/both depending on what you’ve got.
