Gavin, you are the MAN!! Great tutorial. Clear, concise, to the point, no stammering. One of the most helpful titorials I have seen. Thank you, really!!
Gavin, every day I learn something new... thank you! I know a lot of these tutorials were done a couple of years ago, but for me, just learning, they are like Christmas every day!
Thank you sir! Very straightforward, clear, informative, easy to follow, and last but not least your voice and articulation is just spot on. Many TH-cam tutorial makers have a lot to learn from you and your style.
Wow--thanks so much for this. I'm a Paint Shop Pro user and our displacement map is set up differently, but I can still use this tutorial as a guide. Awesome resource. It would have taken me countless hours to figure this out on my own.
This is one of the best photoshop tutorials made. well done Gavin. I cant wait to use it. this vid, eveything about it is just bloody amazing. i love this guy.
You are the best Gavin, My name is Azzam from Saudi Arabia and I've been watching every single video in your channels in the youtube and podcast. awesome photographer.
Best photoshop tutorial ive seen, not necessarily due to the interesting content, mainly because of how clear helpful and to the point it is! Keep up the good work!
Ditto to the comments shared below. You do an terrific job of explaining the process and I found it extremely valuable. With great respect and appreciation....'knowledge is power' and I appreciate you empowering me. Thanks!
"Now the displace filter has to be without question, the least intuative - and least helpful filter within Photoshop, and there's a lot of competition for that prize." This made me chuckle!
Depends on the flag you use and it's pixel rate so be careful and make sure you use a high res picture. I also found that using curves gives you more control over the tonal range of the hand. Thanks Gav, great tut I learned something today and thats what it's all about! 5-stars.
This is the best video I've seen on TH-cam for creating an effect like this; I'll give it a try when I've a day off. It'll give me chance to think of a few thigs I can use it on. Thanks a bunch mate!! I'll subscribe too.
Hi Gavin, I certainly enjoyed this tutorial. I have been trying to learn this for years and have not been successful with any tut that I have tried. Thank you so much.
Again, really, really awesome tutorial! As you yourself explained, the displacement map function is not intuitive, and I don't know why that is, given how useful it is for image manipulation. Been working on projects for the last couple of days using this technique, and have watched video several times, since I keep forgetting the exact steps. It's a shame that it's so poorly implemented. If I had known about this technique earlier, it would have saved me many hours of hand-painting the effect I wanted. Cheers!
Another Awesome tutorial Gavin. Really I think this is magic tutorial how neatly flag wrap around the hand really awesome. Your step by step explanation is always awesome. Thanks Gavin you are king as well as magician in Photoshop & all photographic field we are so lucky that we always learn something new because of you Gavin who are such a Genus & professional person. Thanks God Bless you :-)
Thanks nice tutorial, before this I would have put the flag in a pattern and tried the same effects in 'blending mode' pattern fill, this is so much better, and your tut was easy to follow, well done!
Hi, thank you for this tutorial! I found that 'filter/distort/wave' worked for me! Displace map is a bit tricky, so I used "wave" and worked like a charm! (Also with help of a mask!)
Great tutorial Gavin. I was wondering if this could work if I wanted to map a textile pattern onto a sofa or some bedding....but then I'm thinking the perspective wouldn't work out....Any suggestions on how you might approach this? Any chance you have a tutorial on something like that or is it even possible in Photoshop or Illustrator?
@VeyronBD No, you just made that up, you said "my quad core ATI thank you." Meaning you have an ATi card which does not excists. Also, you could try to beat my i7 950 @ 4.2 GHz and my MSI 590.
I have just bought a very old version of PhotoShop (7.0.1) and I wondered if this can be done with my old version of PhotoShop? I checked out your great website but the brush (cracked paint ) isn't compatible with my old version, pity.
Thanks @GavinHoey! First attempt, meh. I'm thinking because I deleted the white background of Hillary's logo that it looks so...what? The raw image needed more correcting before starting, I'm thinking, too. I liked your tutorial and will certainly watch more! Trying again! Cheers! @transgreaser
I like the way you explain what each of the tools do instead of just flying through and using them all! Awesome tutorial! Thank you!
wow, 13 years later and it's still helpful
Gavin, you are the MAN!! Great tutorial. Clear, concise, to the point, no stammering. One of the most helpful titorials I have seen. Thank you, really!!
I'm here in 2018, thank you for this video!

Thank you sir! Very straightforward, clear, informative, easy to follow, and last but not least your voice and articulation is just spot on. Many TH-cam tutorial makers have a lot to learn from you and your style.

Very detailed thank you. Helps when tutorials actually point out EACH step. Much appreciated!

Displace is an 8 bit only filter. You might be working in 16 bit mode.
In Elements & CS3 and before it's WINDOW - CASCADE
