He comes back this year and is significantly underperforming at about 11 points a game, with some night scoring 0-5 points while taking up major minutes. It’s not that he is despised or not respected. We are now a year and a half into his injury and if you are a Celtics fan or watch every game, you would know what the expectations are. Hayward is dealing with psychological issues stemming from that injury because clearly he can score 20+ a night when he is focused. Celtics need that type of scoring off the bench (for now). Hayward even criticized himself. He knows he’s capable of a lot more. He’s almost there but he has to overcome that mental roadblock.
