- Tips from me to you to get through the final hurdle of the PhD viva, based on my own experience. Best of luck with your viva :)
This is my first video so please excuse my nerves and the volume of the music (if you're listening with earphones)! Hopefully I'll get better with time and practise!

Thank you for sharing. I've just completed my Masters and this has given me an idea of what to expect on my PhD. If I can survive 4 hours of intense questioning then any future job interviews will not be daunting. Well done for successfully defending your thesis!
Very true! Interviews are definitely less daunting following a PhD!

I just think to take my PhD Program in Strategic Management program. As Entrepreneur I have not been reading text book and using my lap top for my work so it would make me very nerveous to get in. Thank for your tips, that help me, appreciated it.

+Fahad Khan Thank you for the kind comments and I am glad you found these tips helpful. I can also recommend that you annotate your thesis if it helps and perhaps bookmark key pages. I had an important summary table in my intro so I bookmarked that and as anticipated, it was discussed in the viva. Wish you all the best!

thank you for making this video. it will be my turn in 2 months time, just a quick question, is it a must for us to dress formally for the viva? is smart casual acceptable?
Hi Lotsz, thanks for your comment! I would look at how others in the group dress for the viva. It's best to overdress (i.e. on the smarter side) to stay on the safe side but I'd say that as long as you're smartly dressed, you're fine. Some people will wear a suit, others will wear a smart dress, some will wear a suit without the jacket and some rebels (like me :D) will wear a fluffy printed jumper and black jeans. Hope this helps!

Hi, I'm a student and I want to pursue a phd. during your interview , the panellists tend to ask questions which has no answer ..so how to attemp those and what if you don't know the answer to that question
Hi Subarna, I'd advise you to just attempt the question. You can even stall by asking the interviewer to repeat/rephrase the question so you have a few more seconds to think. If it is a complicated question, you could try breaking down the question and mention that you will address it in parts, which might make you realise that you can actually answer the question in part, if not in full. Even saying that you don't know the direct answer but telling them what you do know can demonstrate your knowledge in the area. If you don't know the answer at all, just say that it's a good question but that you don't know. Hope this helps!

+Kashyap Bhatiya Hi, thanks for your question. I think this is something I could talk about in detail (i.e. reasons to go for it or not) so I think I'll make a video on it. Until then, I would recommend that you consider if you could focus in detail on one specific topic for at least 3 years, make the time investment, if you would have to make sacrifices (you mention the family business) and if they are worth making, if you are passionate and determined enough about a topic in business management, how you would financially be supported, what you hope to achieve by doing the PhD. Hope this helps!

what do you mean by the selection of examiner?
You can be involved in the decision making process for the examiner selection
How to begin presentation and of what length it should be?
Have you given presentations of your research? It starts in a similar format and you will have to ask your examiners about the length of time you can present.
I think it took so long for you to reply back. Anyhow I had my viva-voce examination on 19th of July. Thank you for your reply.
I've always been scared about doing a PhD...I want to, but I'm terrified.
I know the feeling! I was also scared but excited before I began it. Not going to lie, it wasn't easy to complete but I don't regret doing it. You just have to commit to it and there's always the option to leave the programme and in the first year, you'll have enough of an insight to make that decision :)
