Hotora86: While there are Ezekiel Chokes without the gi (sometimes called Hell chokes), the can be tougher to get (it's just one of those chokes that work well with a gi. I would suggest a knuckle choke (which we'll put up in about a week for you). cheers Ari Bolden
That is why you need to drill, drill, drill and be better than your opponent. Of course an inexperienced guy isn't going to be able to do many moves in jiu jitsu. You need a base to build on. The better you get, the more options are available to you.
I've been doing this move withou the finish for so long and not realizing it's potential... what usually ends up happening is I step over looking for the Kimura and end up not pulling it off so I wrap my legs in the triangle to prevent the loss of position, but I usually never complete the triangle and will usually go for the arm
I've found that in most cases it's not necessary to lift the head, you can just slide your leg under their head because most people don't have their head flat on the ground when their opponent has them in side control. Even if their head is on the ground, unless they're putting weight on it (which is unlikely, unless they're bucking at the same time, and if they are bucking you aren't going to have the leverage to lift the head in that position anyway.) you can still slide it under with force.
@suicide977 Look at his countless other videos, Captain Kindergarten. While this may be one of his, "better" displays, it does not mean his technique is good. His hips are not on the ground, that is a very loose side control. And do you really think once you step over the head, while being that loose in side control, someone is just going to lay there and not defend by pulling their arm out? His technique is horrible at worst, and sloppy at best quite frankly.
i think i only have one on film from my girlfriends camera phone..its the ends when i get the tap...one variation that i use most of the time and find quite helpful is that i go for the kimora on the free arm and rollback.my opponent thinks hes getting the advantage by getting off his back but by the time i land on my butt they are already tapping...should i send the video to you directly?
@OGskater223 Honestly, step through with your right leg (assuming the same side as the video) to the judo position, then trap the arm thru your legs before you step over with the left leg while lifting the head. I use this move VERY often, one of my favorites... and I find its one the moves that actually works best with a larger foe.
in this video the guy on the bottom has his arm exposed. A competitive grappler won't have that out. but if you manage to catch it there or force it out, you could actually do broken kesa gatame into this choke, which might be easier for those of you with short legs like me.
fantastic video. I use this one and the many others you show all the time (the classes I take at home do not teach rubber guard). A small request though. Could you not both wear black rash guards... it just makes it a little hard to see at times. Great video though!
It gets tighter if you squeeze your knee's together while u make everything tighter and raise the triangle. Some people pull the arm in the triangle, but i don't know if that helps. I noticed it's a lot easier to do on bigger guys or guys of the same size. Smaller guys tend to slip or wiggle out somehow
Kimura's are hard enough to get from side control. Especially with your legs all tied up like that. Key locks are form more common, though you can sub someone out with a Kimura by swapping the position of your legs so that you can lean back without falling over and letting him up.
ive tryed getting the triangle but when i squeeze my knees as tight as i could, i couldnt get the tap, one of the higher belts noticed and said its more of a stalling postion , if u can get it by all means use it, dont work for me
I think that because the triangle can only be attempted when the opponents arm is in between ur leg you should have started with getting the arm there? vitor belforts old techniques video had a really good way of getting the arm for this submission
@ToXicFinish not sure 'get stronger' is the greatest answer... obviously it'd help but the trick is conservation of energy... dont muscle against them... go with it and move .. if you cant move them.. move yourself :)
the only way i could see this video or any of your videos getting better is if you demonstrate with your opponent actively resisting. keep the videos coming guys i watch them before and after my BJJ classes.
hey thanks so much for all the great info...its a blessing that you love jiu jitsu so much that youre willing to teach the world your vast arsenal and not be money motivated...keep them coming because theyre working...god bless
@OGskater223 doing ANYTHING against someone who is better experienced AND stronger isnt going to win you the fight, you've gotta be more experienced and stronger than him, so train yo butt off
The key here is don't let him sit up on you, so moving down towards his legs and making sure you keep balance is probably a lot more important than getting too greedy with a weak inverted arm bar.
I have won three tournaments with this move alone...thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou....everytime i use it i get alot of compliments and they all belong to you..thanks from Russell @ Cleber JiuJitsu
This is an awesome position. I slightly kicked a guy in the face at pan ams going for this triangle. It was JJMachado who made me fall in love with the inverted armbar.
man i wish the arm triangle mid-move transitions like i love dual submission. there's only one i know of The andaconda vice its the americana and arm triangle together.
best sub instruction on the net...broken down precisely step by step and especially nice at the end showing that upclose slowed down version...keep up the good work!
I tried this today, and I don't know what my partner did with his arm, but I guess he slipped it out somehow. Still got him with a scissor choke though. Good choke to use.

Typically we don't wear the same color as I make it a point to have contrast. Drop the ball on this video ;-). Sorry buddy.
BJJ= Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
BJG= Brazilian Jiujitsu Gear (my buddies company that sells some wicked tees...reproots dot com)
It was an inverted armbar.Chris went for a keylock first but that wasn't working so he shifted to an inverted armbar.
yep...we have 2 up on our main site under the choke section. Also, our Lights Out DVD featured some also.
You should always video your matches for future reference! just you tube it if it is good quality.
@admbjj yep...that's why I posted this on our main page again ;-)
Chris Lytle won vs Jason Gilliam at UFC 73 via this submission.
No problem..we'll do a video on the invert armlock by itself
I would keep my position, especially if I had the triangle.
options...the triangle is enough to finish someone off;-)
nope...I don't because they aren't all my favorites ;-)
Russ:
Where are the VIDEOS??? We'd love to see them!
We have a couple up already.
cheers
yep...tap!
Sure.

that was wicked deadly... imagine that in a street fight, if you don't know your ground game, you're pretty much owned...
@Submissions101 Do you need the arm in there for the triangle, or can you lock your legs around the head by itself?
OH MY GOD! I *MUST* Try this. THANK YOU. I've always had trouble with submissions from side. THANKS!

Good choke to use.
chris lytle finished Matt brown with this exact submission ufc 116 check it out!
this one is very good.
people are getting informed and are aware of triangle choke. this one is sneaky and great for poeple who like to work on top.
Yeah man mere knowledge of the triangle's existence makes one a lot better at defending it.
That, or you have no idea what you're talking about.
yes, you can. can do it from the top or bottom of guard and of course, the mount. Ari, I don't remember any Ez chokes, gi or no gi, you sure?
I pulled this off in class tonight!
I didnt get the armbar though because he tapped right away from the triangle XD
super sneaky move!!
Is there a reason you do both? Does a triangle from that position not apply enough pressure? Or are you merely showing us more options?
GSP almost got Matt Hughes with that as well in their rubber match. He got the armbar though because Hughes rolled out of it.
@milehighrage Don't you automatically get a brown belt for submitting a brown belt...in the case that you were a lower belt.
man, this is such an awesome move, i wld have never have thought of this one hahaha, can't wait to give this a go.
thanks!.
i tried this, and i couldnt get the tap,how do u get the choke, when he's defending by putting his elbow down to the ground
I had a guy in this position but neither did I choke him nor did he tap. I guess it depends on your physique if it works
Triangle choke + arm bar + serious fight = not a good day for the guy on the receiving end :) awesome vid yet again.
@timshin81 You need the arm for the triangle choke, though without the arm there is a neck crank from this position.
watch Georges St Pierre use this exact submission on Matt Hughes in UFC 79, he finishes with the armbar. Pure class!
Nice!! Robin gracie finished me with this technique at a seminar! search for "Robin vs Joergus" (minute 1:05)
wow this is a very good technique. Iam going to try this if i can react fast enough
for the next tournament.
You guys are The Man. Thanks for posting so many different videos. They're all helpful in some way.
reverse triangle not good enough huh? gotta secure with an arm bar.. tsk tsk.. haha
good post.
@tasmania105 do it consistently to someone in your own weight class that has a brown belt...
I've just seen Renzo pull this move out, tapping Mo Smith. Old fight, but hadn't seen it yet.
Wow..very nice! I'll definitely have to try that move the next time I'm in side control..
I know it was a joke, but that can damn well happen. He should tap with his feet. lol
Glad I found these vids.. I'm new to BJJ (3 mnths)..but totally ADDICTED... :) thx
even if he bridges, as long as the triangle is locked in he's still trapped, no?
this is so sick!
I wish i could make it to your Chicago seminar in March... :(
oh im so gonna try this! your vids to me are like crack to a hobo. thank you.
This is a pretty cool sub, I'm just wondering if there are any escapes to it?
after the triangle instead of the arm bar i could get a kimura right?
Damn that must have flet good. Well, not for the brown belt.
sweet...thanks for the sickness as usual submissions101....
You're deff right, people do not see this coming at all...
WOW gonan try to attempt this tonight! Thanks Subs101
I find it easier to start this one from kesa gatame
@SlingShotEllington45 come on down to our school.
I knew this move existed somewhere. thnx alot!
@admbjj And Jason Gilliam at UFC 73 :-)
sweet.. tried this today and it worked!
This is really cool 😁🔝🔝
holy shit imma use this move tonight
i will remember that one.....heh heh
