I had traditional metal braces when I was younger and I didn’t want to deal with having a mouth full of metal again. I honestly don’t mind dealing with brushing/flossing after I eat as it’s made me more mindful of my oral hygiene!

I thought about that but decided to go with Invisalign instead. I really like that I can take them out and eat whatever and then put them back in and they aren't painful to wear. They're easy to clean as well and they don't irritate the insides of my cheeks or lips.
I just started invisalign a couple days ago and one thing I was not prepared for was the amount of buttons they attached to my teeth and just how awkward it feels in my mouth to have the aligners on. Taking them off is way more of a struggle than I was expecting too! I'm hoping I adjust to them as I wear them but man I'm regretting my decision right now to have gone the Invisalign route over traditional braces which I have had in the past and didn't mind too much. I'm constantly finding myself wanting to play with the aligners using my tongue and the little voice in my head that says to take the aligners off for relief. Also hoping the glue/cement they used to attach the buttons smooths out because right now I can feel it on my teeth when I eat or brush my teeth and it doesn't feel pleasant at all. That said, Invisalign offers a MUCH faster treatment time (1 year vs 2 years) for me as long as I wear them consistently so I'll get my suffering over with faster at least this way. And of course the major bonus of being able to properly brush and floss my teeth without struggle is huge bonus compared to regular braces and the main driving factor for going this route. Here's hoping it gets easier and feels less awkward over time. Edit: After the first week I have adapted to them much better, but I find myself kind of grinding my teeth a bit with them on. Not really sure why, I think there's just some minor relief in the ever so slight shifting that happens to them I do that. The first couple days after switching to new trays is definitely not fun either but it's usually only two days of minor discomfort. Also if you're someone that likes to snack, like me, I would recommend against these as well because it's difficult to keep these clean with a lot of foods. You basically have to brush, or at a minimum vigorously swish with water before putting them back on. I pretty much use a waterpik after any time I eat right now because you really don't want food getting stuck between your teeth and these trays. Bad recipe for cavities. If you can get passed all the issues I mentioned then I think the pros outway the cons in the long term at the end of the day. Hope this information helps someone down the road!
I've been complaining about my bite changing for 4 years and two dentists ignored me and said its fine. I finally saw a dentist today who said something is really wrong and I need to see an ortho right away. I can't believe i've been suffering for so many years and it could have been caught much earlier that my bite was changing, I'm going to have to pay so much more now.
My first dentist didn't even offer me braces or said anything about my overbite they just wanted to clean my teeth. I switched to a new dentist and they right away told me I need braces and that I have a overbite
Coming from a person who had both I choose braces. Yes braces take longer but the aligners are so uncomfortable feel like a mouth guard is in your mouth all day, you have to keep taking them out every time you eat or drink..etc🙄
I let my orthodontist decide since he has the experience to know which are best for my situation. Vanity was a non-concern. The ortho decided on braces for around 20 months. Have had them since late May 2022 and have had little discomfort.
My Invisalign instructions were to wear them 20-22 hours a day. That gives you a bit more wiggle room to eat and do mouth care. I’m officially on week 2 with my first trays. I have been waiting for years to do this and I always wanted braces when I was a teenager. I’m old enough to take this seriously and to be disciplined. My own money paying for this and I’ve waited for a long time to have a gorgeous smile. I have 16 trays and I’m hoping my teeth shift accordingly but understand if I need more treatments. I honestly didn’t know if I’d be a candidate for Invisalign’s bc I have a big overbite. I have definitely been more mindful of mouth care and I’m now addicted to my water pik.
@@shreyamishra6310 I have never had braces so I can’t speak on them. I love my Invisalign’s. I would say they cause some soreness for the first few days with tray changes. Sometimes you can tell which tooth or area the trays are adjusting or moving because that tooth is sore or a little sensitive or your bite feels weird without your trays in. I do love that I can very diligently do my oral care. I do suggest to buy and use a waterpik regardless of what type you go with. I have no food restrictions. You take your trays out to eat…whatever you want and then make sure to have your oral care kit with you when you go out or go to work/school. My oral care kit includes travel tooth brush, dental floss picks, the travel size purple listerine and my Invisalign case. I’m currently losing weight purposely and the trays also help me from snacking because it’s not so simple to just eat and go like before. I think I’m actually going to miss having my trays out permanently …idk…my teeth feel protected. I also use a whitening pen at night on my teeth. I do use the little packs of tray cleaning crystals Bc the teeth whitening pen gel sticks to the trays and those crystals make it come right off. I have a highlight on my IG of my Invisalign’s journey so far if you want to take a look. I see and feel subtle changes…especially with my overbite. Also…you learn to talk with them and the lisp goes away…my lisp would come back with the first few tray changes. My trays have never caused any cuts on the inside of my mouth. I also learned how to get my trays out easily…not the way they told me to. IG @mirandawebbart
@Miranda thank you so much for being so thorough Miranda! I think helping to keep myself from snacking will definitely be an added bonus. XD I've struggled with a midline diastema for such a long time I'm honestly fine with the extra care and pain. My only concern is that right now I'm at a place at my career where I can't afford to waste days because of excess pain. I'll check out your journey. Thanks for replying. :)
@@shreyamishra6310 honestly it’s not painful enough to cause missed work…IMO…and it’s nothing a little Tylenol or Midol can’t help. You’ll still need to go in for adjustments for braces. Also…I must mention you do get attachments on your teeth…they’re there to move that tooth and also you may need to have spaces between your teeth to be filed…then they’re treated with fluoride to keep them strong. I forget how much enamel you have on your teeth but they only file a tiny amount and it’s in the plan that Invisalign makes. It’s very important to floss because any build up of plaque will inhibit the movement the trays need to make. Never toss your old trays Bc you might need them if something happens with your current pair. I literally could make a YT video but a lot of people have and that’s what I watched when I first started my journey. You’re absolutely welcome…shoot me any questions you have on Invisalign trays. I get tray 11/16 tomorrow, I have to get filed in between some teeth also.
I had ceramic clear braces as a teen and they definitely had pros and cons, although sometimes I wish I had the metal ones. I think now that I am in my 20s though I wish I had waited altogether because my wisdom teeth came in so fast and crowded my teeth quite a bit and I am looking at aligning all over again. although at least I think I have the hygiene skills and responsiblility for clear aligners, as a teen I definitely would not have been compliant lol
Enjoy! I am almost finished my treatment and have loved every moment! I love seeing how my teeth have changed so much! Yes there were moments of pain or discomfort but as a whole, I would do it all over again! I really enjoyed/am enjoying it
@@vedesh6907 the first day hurts like a mf and it’s very weird to eat at first. Eventually you get used to everything and you don’t even think about it
I had metal braces when I was younger and it SUCKED. I'm looking into getting Invisalign with my dentist after my periodontist check up and get my crowns. I work from home remotely anyway, so having to brush my teeth after eating everytime doesn't bother me. If anything, they'll keep me from eating so damn much 😂
I am glad to have gone with the metal braces, personally. I couldn’t afford the clear aligners (would have cost about 9k for my treatment instead of 7k) and I knew I probably wouldn’t be as compliant with them anyway. I like your point though-do what is realistic for your budget and set yourself up for success by knowing what you will realistically comply with. If you can afford the aligners and will be super compliant, great! Go for it! If not, it is okay to have the metal braces. Yes, people DO stare at them while you talk and someone almost always brings it up, usually from a stance of curiosity though (at least in my experience since I was 35 YO with braces). Just focus on your hygiene and you would be surprised how fast the time flies by (I blinked and 2.5 years flew by). Overall, I am very glad I did it. My dental check ups are a million times less painful since my teeth are no longer crooked and crowded. It is a lot easier to keep my teeth clean as well. The pretty smile I have now is just a sweet bonus.
Braces can help if you need to move teeth a lot, fill in gaps where a tooth was missing, etc. They give your ortho more control. Eating is not fun and you have to clean even better. At least you will likely get less cavities with real braces. The reason is that teeth need moisture- with the plastic appliance your teeth 22+ hours a day, teeth are kept very dry and that's not good. May have something to do with pH level. If it's a very minor correction, an aligner might work ok.
If you look up Invisalign videos on TH-cam, there are people who had severe cases and fixed them with Invisalign. It's not as cut and dry, and has more to do with how your teeth are located and how they can move.
@@Godnofreeids Obviously I looked up and invisalign and talked to doctors about it before I went with braces. I stand fully behind my original comment. Yes invisalign can work in less severe cases. My ortho clearly said she would never be able to close the gap with 2 of my teeth with invisalign. She sells both and they're both equally as expensive. She said braces gives her more control those. I trust her judgment. Bottom line: Braces can do everything and more than Invisalign can do. Invisalign cannot do everything Braces can do. If you are a candidate for both, each has it's own pro's and cons.
I just binged watched a ton of your videos. Mainly because I went to the dentist today for a regular cleaning and have to get a filling but also because I have TMJ and am getting ready to get a mouth guard. Because I have an open bite, I am going to have my jaw broken and realigned. I am scared. I have to get braces before the surgery so this and many other of your videos helped!
Hi Whitney! Just discovered your channel and I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos- especially the music video parody’s 😂 Your smile is beautiful I’m jealous 😍.
In my case my orthodontist highly recommended me traditional metal braces because of the position of my teeth 🦷, at first I wanted the invisible ones but after she told me that because I love too much green tea 😂 those would turn out yellow haha, so I’ll get them next month and I’ll play with colours and just have fun with them haha ❤❤❤
Hi Whitney, Thank you for making this super useful videos for everybody. I would like to ask you about something that happened to me recently. I've been wearing braces, but a week ago I started experiencing popping of the left side of my jaw. It happens when I open wide my mouth i.e. to floss. I raised the concern to my orthodontist, bur he just said he can't do much and it has nothing to do with his treatment. Currently I am looking for a second opinion as the issue hasn't gone away. I was wondering if you might have an idea of what is going on with me. Thank you for taking the time to read/reply to my comment.
I’m currently in the process of getting Invisalign. I have gone to 5 different orthodontists just to shop/compare and I have watched 100+ videos with orthodontists talking about Invisalign. They ALL say you must wear them 20-22 hours a day. Not a single one has said 23 hours a day. Please provide your source data for that figure. Thank you.
Hi- what are your thoughts on whitening teeth? Are there pros and cons? Also- my friend has his clear liners -! Can’t notice them, and I’m already noticing a difference in his teeth being straightened ! He’s very strict with his routine, but one thing he told me was that his dentist mentioned to brush his teeth 4 times a day. I feel like that is too much as it can strip away the enamel, or does it depend on the teeth? 👀
People are always like “ I don’t know why my teeth aren’t tracking” I ask... “ how much do you wear your aligners¿” them... “ oh not much”.......... WHY hahahah literally don’t know what to say every time a patient says some crap like that.. Literally
Hi. I’m considering whether I should get Invisalign or Metal Braces because my teeth are only mildly crooked and i have some teeth that are not align with the others. I want to have the best results but slightly uncomfortable with braces because of showing them and also do the metal braces hurt like at all when you have them on. PS this question is for people who’ve had braces.
Im thinking about switching from invisible lines to braces due too, well lets be frank its basically impossible to keep invisible lines in 22 hours per day! I might stick with the clear braces, there is no way im dealing with metal braces.

I resorted to try smile direct but figured it wouldn't make sense if i need jaw sugery. Ugh, at this point idk what to do
I had my first consultation with my orthodontist this week, I have to decide on metal fixed or Invisalign braces, my Ortho prefers metal fixed. but it’s my decision. Metal fixed .. I’ve seen a few people with marks. I was also informed they can change your jaw line appearance?! 🤷♀️ Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance 🙏🏻
I’m trying to figure out what is the best choice for 13yo , I’ve had Invisaligns for invisibility and loved them, but gums weren’t comfortable 😢 I’m worried that kids don’t take care of metal braces well 😅
U forgot to mention self ligating braces which are a genius option. I had white/transparent option and they are hardly boticable because they are self ligating so no rubber bands.

it depends!!! my best advice is to ask your dentist what they think is best for you! also -- currently I'm offering a free Invisalign promo: bit.ly/ttg-invisalign-form hope this helps!

Question, If I start using invisiline with a dentist and then I move to another state, will I be able to continue with another dentist? I ask because might move in the future to another state and would like to begin the process as I have over bite and one tooth starting to move behind the other.
I wish I chose braces. I think I would have gotten a better result out of them because of how bad my teeth were. I chose aligners. They straightened them a little but not how I would like.
I've been wearing invisalign now for more than two years. Its working for me but not that effective, really. During my teeth assessment, my Dentist thought my case is easier to fix. But it turns out really complicated. I'm now in invisalign refinement 3. The first set of trays I was supposed to wear is out of 37, and the second is out of 79 (and I'm waiting for my new set of trays to arrive). And I have attachments on, elastics, and I even eat with my invisalign on as per reccommended by my Dentist. But I've only worn 25/37 and 28/79 trays because some of my teeth doesn't budge as what was expected of them. Now my Dentist told me we'll make my treatment quicker by just closing all the gaps and all's done. But the thing is, I still have one tooth (lower canine tooth) sticking out. I hope this works. Now, I regret choosing Invisalign over Traditional braces. All I want is to have straighter teeth. I guess I would never be able to achieve that at this point.
I share your pain. I started with 18 trays and I didn’t like the way my right canine felt and I talked to my orthodontist about it and I had another 10 trays. Now, I’m done with those trays and my tooth didn’t move.
😮that’s a lot of trays! Hope it’s worked out in the end. I’ve only got 10 for the whole treatment and about half way through the teeth seem to be moving as intended 🤞

What's better aligners or braces
Thanks for the great video, you were so clear, thorough and informative. Love your videos, always so helpful.
thank you so much for watching! and for your kind comment!!! positive vibes!
Isn’t there a possibility to choke on the Invisalign in your sleep?
Invisalign are horrible
Man f that im going to get the invis & just take it like a man😩
Did you make it? I gave up after 2 months
@@Dateblonded how’d it go? I’ve had them for a few days now and I’m wondering how effective they are
I don't mind traditional metal braces at all as long as the band colour works well with my teeth and skin tone.
Hey Miranda? How is your treatment going? I have to decide between clear aligners and braces as well.
Do clear aligners hurt?
@@mirandawebb do you have to wear them for a year?
I had ceramic clear braces as a teen and they definitely had pros and cons, although sometimes I wish I had the metal ones. I think now that I am in my 20s though I wish I had waited altogether because my wisdom teeth came in so fast and crowded my teeth quite a bit and I am looking at aligning all over again. although at least I think I have the hygiene skills and responsiblility for clear aligners, as a teen I definitely would not have been compliant lol
I’ve been in braces for 5 months it hurts, my advice, I recommend to try to go with clear aligners if possible
Finally get my Invisalign tomorrow
Enjoy! I am almost finished my treatment and have loved every moment! I love seeing how my teeth have changed so much! Yes there were moments of pain or discomfort but as a whole, I would do it all over again! I really enjoyed/am enjoying it

I had metal braces when I was younger and it SUCKED. I'm looking into getting Invisalign with my dentist after my periodontist check up and get my crowns. I work from home remotely anyway, so having to brush my teeth after eating everytime doesn't bother me. If anything, they'll keep me from eating so damn much 😂
Am going with braces. It’s cheaper and high school is filled with responsibilities and stress so I don’t want stress out if I put my Invisalign
Bottom line:
Braces can do everything and more than Invisalign can do. Invisalign cannot do everything Braces can do. If you are a candidate for both, each has it's own pro's and cons.
Wait back of the teeth braces??? Im sold.
THANK YOU for this kind comment :) it means more than you know! so happy you're here :)
I’ve had both. I still prefer braces.
I wish I would’ve had Invisalign bc it’s hard to have all this medal in my mouth
Anyone else get a sketchy at home aligners advertisement before this video?
unfortunately I've heard of SO many people that have tried at-home straightening and had awful results :(
Yep lol
I got metal braces in January of 2021 and got them off in April of 2022
Thanks for the video It was very informative, do you which takes longer if lingual braces or clear aligners?
Hi Whitney, Thank you for making this super useful videos for everybody. I would like to ask you about something that happened to me recently. I've been wearing braces, but a week ago I started experiencing popping of the left side of my jaw. It happens when I open wide my mouth i.e. to floss. I raised the concern to my orthodontist, bur he just said he can't do much and it has nothing to do with his treatment. Currently I am looking for a second opinion as the issue hasn't gone away. I was wondering if you might have an idea of what is going on with me. Thank you for taking the time to read/reply to my comment.
This will be great for disciplining myself 😂
I’m currently in the process of getting Invisalign. I have gone to 5 different orthodontists just to shop/compare and I have watched 100+ videos with orthodontists talking about Invisalign. They ALL say you must wear them 20-22 hours a day.
Not a single one has said 23 hours a day.
Please provide your source data for that figure. Thank you.
Which one fixed jaw positioning better?

Literally
I just got clear aligners without thinking any of this haha
give me the rainbow braces with daughters approval lol. I'm excited
And it's actually dangerous this plastic in your mouth it messed my stomach and intestine
Thank you Doctor 😊.I have a question which is this best retainer that you suggest for someone who's having their braces removed.

Metal fixed .. My main concern is cleaning my teeth after eating, I love food! I currently floss twice a day and have zero fillings at 52 years young, I always receive a children’s ‘cavity free’ sticker from my dentist!! 🤣
Could I please ask, do fixes metal braces leave marks on teeth? I’ve seen a few people with marks.
I was also informed they can change your jaw line appearance?! 🤷♀️
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance 🙏🏻
I chose metal instead mine was overcrowded so I went with braces better
I’m trying to figure out what is the best choice for 13yo , I’ve had Invisaligns for invisibility and loved them, but gums weren’t comfortable 😢 I’m worried that kids don’t take care of metal braces well 😅
U forgot to mention self ligating braces which are a genius option. I had white/transparent option and they are hardly boticable because they are self ligating so no rubber bands.

Can I get braces if I have an implant and 2 crowns? 😒
Yes
Yes you can
Thank you
I wish I chose braces.
