    This was a highly requested song, and I think pretty much everyone was happy with the result - they performed it first at the livestreams they did with Straight No Chaser back in May 2021, and then decided to release a recorded version. I love the way the guys from Home Free like to bring their talented friends into the limelight with them, it's one of their most attractive qualities.

    • @RefriedHomeFries
      @RefriedHomeFries  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Sally Kennett love that about the guys as well. It reiterates their lack of Ego which is definitely attractive to us as well! Independent artists supporting independent artists. We are trying to showcase as many of these artists as possible next weekend! 👍

    I actually remember the original of "My Maria" by B. W. Stevenson in 1973. Always loved this song. I was not familiar with the Brooks & Dunn version. I really loved this performance by Tim & Austin & the other guys. Liked Austin singing in his lower register. I don't think I have ever heard Tim sound so clear & crisp in his upper falsetto range. Who would ever believe that he is a natural bass who can drop down into the basement depths. Wouldn't it be cool to have these guys perform for you at home.

      @Dagmar S. Oh no, I forgot all about B.W. Stevenson and I believe it was mentioned at the S&L Livestream! Gotta fix our description! Thank you!
      It would be amazing for them to perform in our backyard...if we had one! 🤣

    Hove gotten to see this twice live with TF & friends. Always a favorite for the audience.
    Sadly, I won't be able to join the live stream next Saturday but will definitely listen after the fact.
    Keep promoting the guys. Us Fries appreciate it. I'll certainly get the word out to my, admittedly tiny, social media circle.

    Love y’all as reactors. And love the refried part. I think you need many more subscribers. A thought, starting mixing in some first time reactions could pull many more subscribers. You deserve it✌️❤️

    • @TheFixsInn
      @TheFixsInn ปีที่แล้ว

      We agree, more subscribers would be nice lol! However, we also have to consider this channel is very, very niche. We only do reactions to a single group. Since we're fans of that group it's rare to find a video or song we haven't already heard, and faking a first reaction is out of the question lol.
      We are in the process of starting another channel for reactions to ALL music genres with an emphasis on indie artists and first time artists. Those will absolutely get 1st time reactions and critical breakdowns if warranted. We love promoting new and independent music, which is why we're so fascinated with Home Free.
      Thanks for the awesome compliments, you rock!

    I'd wondered about the cicadas. I know crickets will shut up when a loud enough sound distracts them, then start up again when it goes quiet. I thought maybe cicadas did the same. But I noticed quite a while back the guys sound Perfect on official videos, and less so on stage.

    • @RefriedHomeFries
      @RefriedHomeFries  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Gloworm Rdr it's like that with any band or musician and always has been. It doesn't mean one is better than another, they are just different with studio recordings being much cleaner & crisper. At one point I had a big thing for LIVE albums because I went to so many live shows and liked that grungier sound😂 They are great either way but I have always had a thing for live performances 🥰

    Is that Saturday the 27th you're going live? I'll be looking forward to it. If you're doing some 7th Ave I hope you can take a look at their mashup I Kissed a Girl in the House of the Rising Sun. It's kind of racy, which my be the reason I haven't seen any reactions to it. But I can't resist a shirtless Chris Rupp. As to this video, I'm pretty sure they're on Austin's front deck. It's a wonderful place to record their sets; face one way, like here, and you have the lovely trees behind, turn to the side and your view is Austin's fishing pond. Love your vids, guys.

      @Nightthorn k'Vala the 27th, the Saturday coming up. We checked that video out and it was a bit weird but nothing that bothers us but maybe it could others?🤷‍♀️ it's a process choosing songs for the radio because we have to choose songs for this listening area...7th Avenue will be a challenge....thanks for the feedback 🤗

    The original came out in 1973. Brooks and Dunn did a cover. BW Stevenson was the singer songwriter of this great song. I was dancing to this in 1973. Imagine writing a song that is still so loved almost 50 years later. I am supplying a link to the original. Had BW Stevenson not died at such a young age, I'm sure we would dancing to many more of his songs.

  • @patriciamcl54

    I don't believe Darren Rust produced this. He's not Nashville-based (this was filmed outside Austin's house but recorded in his studio) whereas both Sebi and Austin's long term collaborator Steven Martinez are talented producers and have successfully produced commercial tracks on Austin's channel. It was recorded the same day as Signed, Sealed, Delivered, an explosion of energy which must have been one helluva job to synchronise, given that Austin appears throughout to go completely insane.
    I'm not sure I agree that these guys always sound different in backyard recordings. I've heard several, presumably recorded on superior equipment, where the sound quality is second to none (as long as Austin remembers the words to songs he wrote himself). It's important, too, to remember that even if the audio is recorded in a studio, all concerned will still perform as if being recorded live because otherwise the visual picture wouldn't be convincing.
    I'm afraid i must repeat my objection to Tim's great range being offered as proof that he is a great singer. There is an unfortunate tendency to go wild over a note simply because it is very low or very high rather than because it is good to listen to. Personally I prefer Tim's higher register to the low stuff *puts on tin helmet* and i prefer Avi's lower register, being sweeter and more characterful than Tim's. Now I suppose everyone will hate me! but i believe it's more important how you sing rather than where on the keyboard you do it.
    This is the second most popular video on Austin's channel (after the viral of all virals, Unchained Melody, on 11 million and still rising - thanks Meghan Freeman for the stats) and I think its popularity is simply down to the fact that everyone seems to be having such a good time. I do wish, though, that there was a recording of the show on Austin's deck that he arranged for disappointed ticket holders when a Nashville show had to be cancelled, and where he went on singing Unchained Melody when the police arrived. Someone in the audience had accidentally pressed an emergency button on their phone. Apparently Austin got even warmer applause than usual in admiration for his refusal to be stopped even by the forces of law and order.

      Chris Chatham is also a producer/arranger and I "think" he does a lot of the TF and friends stuff. Not sure about this particular song.
      I agree with your distinction between range, "hitting notes", and the character of the notes. Rather than saying one is better than the other I simply describe them as different. Avi has a truly unique tone & timbre that I appreciate very much. Tim & Geoff have different qualities to their low ranges. For me, it depends on the particular song and situation. In general I prefer Tim's flexibility but for a full song of primarily low register it is tough to beat Avi.

    • @RefriedHomeFries
      @RefriedHomeFries  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Patimac Wolf54 I will leave the technical stuff for Paul to respond to when he can. I just wanted to say that I agree 💯 with you on Tim's voice in his higher registers...it's beautiful. So many layers to it. I also am one who enjoys Austin's voice in his lower registers...it's just a matter of preference and how we enjoy different qualities of sounds. Everything they do is incredible but some I enjoy more because of the way I hear particular notes or tones, if any of that made sense 😂

    • @TheFixsInn
      @TheFixsInn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @patimac54wolf84 All valid points and I agree 100%. I've done both studio and live recording, I actually enjoy the challenges of live better than studio. Studio work is creating a pre-planned illusion. Live is raw and in your face what you hear is what you get. No tricks or lies other than maybe a lil auto tune lol 😉

    • @TheFixsInn
      @TheFixsInn ปีที่แล้ว

      @PatimacWolf54 Here's a great example of a live recording that sounds better than if they did it in a studio... I recorded this at a golf clubhouse lol

    With a singing, you can always push your voice a little higher (to a degree), but in chest voice you cannot gain more than a couple semitones lower; faking a bass voice without extended techniques is impossible and easy to tell. Tim is good to F#1 in chest voice, which is very low for even a bass (about 9 semitones lower than what a typical bass can do).

    Tim once said when he goes to the Marion house for holidays he is the least talented person there. They will play a song then all switch instruments and play something else😮
