Wow, this helped me so much! Thank you! My laptop died and I struggled to get the harddrive out (stripped screwdrivers 🤦♀️) and when I finally did, I couldn't gain access to the harddrive with other tutorials I was using, but these instructions worked perfectly, such a relief, I am so grateful!!!

Fantastic!. I rescued my data from my old computer hard drive. I followed your instructions. I had a fair few error windows I had to close, but at the end of the drive, I had access to my docs, desktop, pics, and vids. All copied over to my brand spanking new computer ty ty xx
You are a life saver!!! Every time I plugged my external drive to another desktop I couldn't see the new copies files. I gave both PC's the same permission as per your video so hopefully all will be good when I switch between pc's. Thank you Sir.
My laptop died so I needed to transfer data from its hard drive to my new laptop. Turns out admin rights don't translate from machine to machine. This video was a lifesaver for me to recover all my data. Big thumbs up!

I dunno why i'm the only person in the world none of these methods are helping. It does everything but certain folders from my old drive and refuses to give up ownership..

@@intothekey i did, but I don't fully remember. I think I had to this to EVERY SINGLE FILE I wanted to do anything and it took me HOURS to copy stuff over. I can't remeber if I had to add anything else. I still have the drive, so I can mess with it again and let you know.

@@isaacturner199I am late and you must have figured it out already, but for someone else...just before selecting your system as the owner of the hdd, tick the "replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object" that is at the bottom left. What it does is applies the ownership settings to each and every file in the selected folder(and the folder itself) and then continue with add the permission entry.

My laptops been dead for a while, and as a music producer all my old music was stuck on there, finally got a hard drive adapter and couldn’t get into the storage but this video helped me super fast, thanks so much!
hi, I did this and it comes up with an error message for many files "Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied" I have to press continue about 100 times. afte rthe process is complete I still can't access most of the files/folders on the drives (not an issue with the SDD with windows installed), both my main one and the backup. Is there a fix or should I reset my pc again with the drives not connected? This is driving me nuts!!

I got this too while I was going through the steps, but you just click continue and it sorts itself out.
Thank you! I had to reset my desktop so I saved everything on my external hdd and suddenly after reset I no longer had access to the e-hdd works great now.

Thank you very much! I had so many problems with my ext HDD account because my office uses a rigorous security system. Lots of data was lost because of constant chkdsk between the office PC and my home PC. This video return my HDD account to normal.

Thank you so much for making this video. Windows sure does make it hard to do a simple task. I don't understand why an external hard drive doesn't have some type of open permissions when you buy it and then if you want strict permissions then you should have to do all of that stuff, not the other way around. I couldn't even save a document after editing it. Pretty dumb if you ask me. I am so glad you made this video to help me out. its even WORSE on windows 11. 7 was the best. 10 was "eh". 11 is horrible for permissions lol

Thanks very much for making this video. I had an issue where none of my search programs were finding things on my extra storage drives and i found out it was because i wasnt the owner of the disks. I had a USB drive that was Exfat file system and i couldnt convert it to NTFS but with this i was able to move the files to a new drive, then convert it to NTFS and finally going to transfer everything back and hopefully the search will work now. Anyway thanks very much for your help. Im sure you make a lot of videos but i know people dont always say thank you. Have a good day.
Is this the process I go through when trying to get files from a nvme from a different computer? My computer broke, I can take out the nvme m.2 hard drive, I can purchase a USB adapter for nvme, then I do this?

Many Thanks for Unlocking the Mysteries of the mostly unintuitive (to me!) File & Folder
MS Permissions.... I keep my DATA on a Separate Local Internal drive and use Allway Sync to My NAS... But when I Installed a Fresh Copy of Win 10, for the first time the Sync repeatedly refused and displayed the dreaded " Access is denied (0x80070005)".... Nothing I tried would coax it to work.... MS Text based Searches provided no answers and then I found this (brilliant) Step X Step.... And it just worked! Unless MS changes anything, this Video is a MUST for anyone struggling to solve this issue....
