My comment on 'The Panic Meter' was not directed at The Hockey Guy. To be crystal clear; THG is a TH-cam Hockey OG who deserves the utmost respect. He's one of the first channels I direct people towards if they're trying to get into actually watching hockey, as he's not only incredibly knowledgeable, he just seems like a good guy as well. My comment on the 'Panic Meter' comes from the fact that it has been a well established format in print, online and video across just about every sport for quite some time. If you Google 'Panic Meter' and insert "NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB" you will see a variety of articles from a variety of publications, ranging from the NYT to ESPN, to FanSided that have written articles under this format. It's as ubiquitous in sports media as "plays of the week." All respect to the Hockey Guy, as he's most certainly a channel any and all hockey fans should be watching.
BarDown's Panic Meter is 1D because it'd a left to right scale. THG's Panic Index is 2D because it's on an X and Y axis. They're NOTHING alike. Love the pod, keep 'em coming.
Didn't think for a second that you guys were intentionally downplaying Shannon or anything. Cool to see a major company like TSN acknowledging him in an official capacity though! Bardown and THG are two broadly different styles of commentary but the hockey media world is fairly small and it's always nice to see the big media players give props to OG creators like THG.
The rags for years have been just a power play and a goalie. Then everyone acts like surprised pikachu when the powerplay opportunities dry up in the playoffs and Igor can't carry a subpar 5 on 5 team.
Z you’re right the song is too chill. But then you hear it 3 times in a row in the 3rd period and it’s PERFECT. It’s genuinely sucha perfect song when you’re stealing a game back, and they were doing a lot of that a couple seasons ago.
Honestly, hadn’t thought of the slow build factor haha! Still not into it as the goal song, but great point on it for it feeling celebratory in multi-goal scenarios!
I think it's a canuck fan thing, I remember Bieksa defending the horn on air because everyone said it outran it's course. meanwhile, I threw my hands up hearing these guys talk about how much they don't like it lol
Genuinely always thought it would be hilarious to have Good Riddance (Green Day) as some team's goal song. "It's something unpredictable" might be good for a Bruins team that literally cannot buy a goal this season.
Sens fan here. It's been a tough last few years. Like mentioned in the video, on paper the team looks good, the metrics this year don't even look too bad either. I think there is still a hurdle this team needs to overcome together and they haven't been able to do it. At some point teams make that "jump" (Devils, Panthers, Leafs in 2017/18), yet Ottawa has failed to do so. It seems like once this team does get on a run, they won't look back. I think it's just a matter of breaking that barrier. I think you stick to this core for the year and let them figure it out, and if they fail to do so, you need to trade/move multiple big pieces over the off-season and re-tool the core (Chabot, Norris, Pinto, Zub, Giroux).
as a Sens fan we have 3 major problems which have not been solved 1. Roster Depth (has been shit below the 2 first forward lines for over 4 years at this point) (David Perron has 0 points in 9 games) 2. our goaltending coaching/development has been hot garbage since the reinception of the team in 92. none of the goalies we draft here get good here they all become good elsewhere. 3. our defense apart from Chabot and Sanderson is spotty and we don't have a true Defensive Defensemen. also Ottawa has been rushing its Goalies to develop and trades them away look at guys like Ben Bishop, Filip Gustavsson etc they go elsewhere and light it up.
I agree with you. Except you did say we have no defensive defensemen but Nick Jensen has been very good defensively so far this year. I think we need another guy like him to solidify our defence a bit more
@@colepole30 true but he isn't like a Mattias Ekholm or a Victor Hedman which is what we need. defense I would say out of the 3 issues I listed is the one the team is in the least need of though.

17:08 The Sens should be at least in the mix for a playoff spot. Yet at 5 points behind the Flyers, NY Rangers, and Bruins for a playoff spot and just 8 points (3-5-1-1 win-regulation loss-OT loss-shootout loss record) over their past 10 games, these Sens sure don’t feel to me like a playoff team.
100000000% agree with Luca on Lindholm. He & Zadorov were massive massive mistakes. Overpaid. Not contributing how they should. Zadorov hurts us actually. But I’m not in agreement with being in full panic. I have said for years (other than 22-23) we are consistently good in the regular season but we are not a playoff team. I haven’t expected that of the bruins in YEARS. I can understand why an outsider would consider being panicked but this isn’t a shock. Have you seen our roster? Have you seen the age of the better players? We are producing about as much as expected. I’d also like to point out the rest of the Atlantic isn’t so hot this season either. I would be more panicked as a leafs fan because they aren’t much better than us & have more high end talent on their roster 🤷♀️

13:27 Couldn't agree more. Watching them plays the Leafs last night was rough. The Blackhawks have pretty decent goal tending and great talent in some places, but head scratchers in others. Case in point - Pat Maroon is on PP2. Obviously, the Leafs are top 4 in the East and the Hawks had the first overall pick last year, but the additions to the Blackhawks seem to be more "what about that guy" vs "we need this type of player." The only move that made a lot of sense was naming Nick Foligno as captain. It leaves room for Bedard to be C once Foligno retires without having to strip it from someone or trade them.
the second goal is 100% goal of the year...the Makar goal we will all have forgotten about in 1 months time. But that own goal will never be forgotten. When Charlie Lindgren retires this goal will be the thing he will be remembered for the most. We will not see a similar goal all year. #TeamThomas #wefewweproud

We’ve lost a lot of close games which stings but I still have some hope. Great video as always guys
love the podcast you guys are great keep up the work. as a big sens fan i will say my peice on our situation, i dont think chucky is leaving anytime soon he loves ottawa from what he says, i know some people lie to the media, and people questing his captenciy are jokes, chucky is an amazing captain that brings the team closer together on and off the ice I've met him a couple times and he's a great person. i truly think their are 2 main issues with ottawa 1st being ullmark, i never thought ullmark was as good as people thought he had 2 good seasons the veizna winner was when boston won almost everygame, and 2nd season was just okay he hasn't had any season where he showed he was good by himself his numbers were boosted by the way boston was playing, not every goalie could do as well in Boston as he was not taking that from him. also didn't mention boston having a crazy good defence. he fell apart in the playoffs last year. ullmark is not a star goalie and has let in many goals that shouldn't have been let in take an example as the flyers v sens 5-4OT loss ullmark just handed the flyers the game. maybe I'm wrong and he will turn it around. the 2nd big issue is we cant win important games and even games we should be winning. as i said we blew the game against the flyers being up 4-2 with 6-7 mins left in the 3rd. the sharks came back from 3-1 we still won 4-3 luckily. and we just lost to the ducks. there's many other games that i could mention. ill mention one more thing, the sens will go out on the ice and look like the prime lightning in 2020 the look like the sharks from 2023. or vise versa, I'm aware that its hard to play a full 100 foot game, but it is almost next to impossible for the sens to play full games. dissapoting and slow start from norris, perron, chabot, Sanderson, and pinto. I'm not a fan of josh norris mainly that he's making almost 8mil. id love to see some trade ideas with him (doughtful he's gonna be traded) but wouldn't mind seeing some ideas.
All these comments about Bedard's teammates are just weak. They are excuses, and I doubt Bedard accepts them himself. Conor Bedard had a lesser quality of teammates last year, yet he played much better. The pressure on Bedard has been monumental, and teams are undoubtedly defending him better than they did in the past, but he is probably tight as a drum and lacking a little confidence right now. He should be scoring more goals than he is, regardless of who his teammates are, but he isn't. I have no doubt he is going to be a 50-goal scorer in this league, but he is struggling. Do him a favor and quit focusing on him, and I'm sure things will start to come together for him. It took Mackinnon a few years to get rolling, but look at him now. By the way, Nate has only 7 goals compared to Bedard's 5 so far this year. Anyone worried about MacKinnon? This "generational" tag on Bedard is BS. Maybe he will be, maybe not, but he is going to be a great player. Just give him some time.
hello bar down! I have a trade proposal, with Ottawa wanting to shake up their core and josh Norris being on the block, as a red wings fan I think he fills very many desperate needs for us, some of Detroits biggest issues are "fixed" if we were to trade for him such as the second line center role, and speed once Kane comes of IR for the second line. so here's the trade, Ottawa receives Andrew Copp a second, a conditional fifth Antti tuomisto and Elmer Soderblome. Detroit gets Norris 20% percent retained and a 6th. the condition on the fifth being if Ottawa makes it to the second round the fifth becomes a 3th. thanks if you get to this love the pod 😄
ngl as a sens fan this shit is horrid, picks aren’t good enough we would get a first atleast, copp is washed and hasn’t showed promice the prospects are ok but the sens have a core we want to win now. And Norris at 20% retained at 8 mil for the next 7 years, Ottawa would never do that
What’s going on in Ottawa is partly five years of horrendous, disorganized, and excuse driven coaching. When the Sens play structured hockey, they beat the best in the league, but DJ Smith sewered this team so hard that his ghost still haunts the team through mental lapses and horrendous tendencies that the new regime has to iron out over time.
As a Sens fan I can tell you that Travis Green is a DJ 2.0, Sanderson is not evolving because his partner (while Zub is out) is Hamonic who isn’t even AHL level. Timmy Stu is constantly good, Brady and Bath are good this season but to inconsistent, Ullmark is not showing what he is capable of and Pinto has like 3 points💀 But Adam Gaudette is A future Rocket winner so no worries🤙
As a sens fan I really do not think tkachuk is our problem. A lot of nights the team seems uninterested for stretches of time. Especially when they're down, sens radio loves pointing out how they are 1/11 when trailing this season. We've had a bit of trouble with depth scoring (i.e. pinto, perron) but I think the biggest issue right now is defence after Zub went out. I'd like to see us target someone like rasmus anderson and sign him long term, and if any shake up were necessary ship out norris (injury prone, but looks good and highest value hes had for a long time rn) or chabot (quickly became 2nd best dman after sandy)
I honestly don't know what ottawa needs to do at this point. Fans blamed Melnyk for not spending money on the roster for why they're so bad. New owner came in and they're spending the money. Fans blamed Dorion for making bad moves and his signings. Dorion is gone and new gm. Smith was blamed for his coaching, Smith is gone and they got new coach. The goaltending wasn't good enough and they went out and got a star goalie. they've done everything outside of making a huge shake up to change things. I'm hoping they get their stuff together and them going on a run but it's not looking great. outside of trading a guy like Tkachuck or Chabot or another core player, i don't know what they can really do at this point to change things.
For Ottawa, I would have expected something like where the CBJ, Philly or the Flames are, like a .525~.575 ish record, on pace to contend for a Wildcard 1 or 2 spot. You could say you want something similar for Buffalo or Detroit, but Ottawa NEEDS to be there NOW considering that they got Ullmark and that they are aging etc. Like if Ottawa missed the playoffs only because both Buffalo and Detroit were amazing this year, that'd be fine too, but they are so far from that. Talent pool in NJ and the expectations this year are sky high compared to Ottawa though
I love the Breakfast Club but I agree the song isn't fitting as a goal song. I liked the version of the Canucks where they had Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love instead
Guys the Sens are two points behind the Sabres. Trust me I’ve been down as a fan but they’re only 5 points out. East is was too even right now to say that the Sens are “bad” cause every analytic says they have played much better than in years past. I think it’s very easy to say things never change, and frankly I don’t blame people who don’t watch the Sens thinking it’s the same old thing. At the end of the day results are what matter. But after a slow start, Ullmark has looked better. Tim Stützle has taken another step this season and has become elite both offensively and defensively. Their biggest woes have been scoring depth, with Adam Gaudette having more goals than Pinto, Amadio, Greig, Cousins and Perron combined. If the depth could step up I think this team gets back into it. I would agree though that this is the last year. If by the trade deadline they’re miles out, I’m shaking the core up
I like buddy in the Avs shirt talking about stl playing Colorado knowing good and well our starter got knocked out by your guy and would have lost if not for it.
21:30 yeah, let’s compare Ottawa to the Devils who had 2 first over all picks recently. Ullmark just needs to discover his game and the team in front of him need to face adversity better. It’s a mental issue with the Senators, not a talent one. That mental issue can go away if they get decent goaltending, which they haven’t. If they can’t get that, it’s time to dismantle the core.
As a sens fan, it seems like stutzle is the only guy playing to his capability. I think it’s time to make a massive move and change something with this core. It hasn’t worked and something needs to change to show these guys the reality of the situation. Jesse may like this crazy trade idea. Tkachuk for marner? Gives sens more individual skill and gives leafs some grit.
Leafs never accept that trade, Marner is playing up to an 115 point pace right now. You'd have to throw in a 1st rounder and a good prospect just for a chance of getting that done.
@ wasn’t necessarily saying 1 for 1, but it was just a switch of play styles that could benefit both teams for what they need. Realistically the sens and leafs will never trade star players between eachother
The problem I have with Ottawa is Timmy, Brady, and Batherson are playing so well and their analytics are good but their depth scoring is terrible this season and goaltending has been terrible looks like it's getting better but I think they have the players but too many passengers rn mainly in the bottom 6 and then Hamonic playing top pair is painful. The team needs to be better but I still have hope if Ullmark can get to what he should be the team should be fine
I've been watching the Sens since the 2017 playoff. I thought that they were going to go all the way but, unfortunately the Pens got in are way. I have gone to three games before and, they have won all three so, going into the Vancouver game, I was hoping with "my luck" that they would win knowing it would be a close and exciting game. What I was disappointing. The team played like the leafs. The team looked but, has to play behind. I was also disappointed in Ullmarks play knowing how much of a steal it was to get him. It seems like any goalie who comes to ottawa has a difficult start. In my opinion I don't think ottawa needs to add anything forward wise and goaltending but, to add a veteran defense men for the second line. That way, it will give JBD and Klevin some more time to develop.
The sens need a true 1st pair defenceman to play with Sanderson, who has been brutal so far… no way they’re trading tkachuk right now… he wants to win in Ottawa and he’s really good in his role. the biggest problem in my opinion has been the supporting cast, which has been invisible so far. Everyone who was brought in in the off season has been underperforming to say the least. Also defensively they’ve looked lost lately so hopefully that will get fixed soon with some good coaching
As a sens fan we have the talent to be a playoff team tho i think we need better leadership. Dont trade the captain but maybe ship out the assistant captains. And chabots good but he’s basically the same player as sanderson and we rlly need a star rd.
I retract this statement we're playoff bound we just need some more depth scoring especially from players like pinto and greig and maybe trade amadio for a better third/fourth liner

The Ottawa comparables y'all are throwing out are insane. You're talking about a team that hasn't finished ahead of the Sabres in the Atlantic since 2017-2018 and somehow they're being compared to the reigning cup champs in Florida, the Leafs who have been in the playoffs every year since 2015-16, and a NJ team that finished 3rd in regular season points just two seasons ago. The game isn't played on paper and absolutely nothing about the Sens actual gameplay at any point recently warrants anything close to that level of comparison

love the podcast you guys are great keep up the work. as a big sens fan i will say my peice on our situation, i dont think chucky is leaving anytime soon he loves ottawa from what he says, i know some people lie to the media, and people questing his captenciy are jokes, chucky is an amazing captain that brings the team closer together on and off the ice I've met him a couple times and he's a great person. i truly think their are 2 main issues with ottawa 1st being ullmark, i never thought ullmark was as good as people thought he had 2 good seasons the veizna winner was when boston won almost everygame, and 2nd season was just okay he hasn't had any season where he showed he was good by himself his numbers were boosted by the way boston was playing, not every goalie could do as well in Boston as he was not taking that from him. also didn't mention boston having a crazy good defence. he fell apart in the playoffs last year. ullmark is not a star goalie and has let in many goals that shouldn't have been let in take an example as the flyers v sens 5-4OT loss ullmark just handed the flyers the game. maybe I'm wrong and he will turn it around. the 2nd big issue is we cant win important games and even games we should be winning. as i said we blew the game against the flyers being up 4-2 with 6-7 mins left in the 3rd. the sharks came back from 3-1 we still won 4-3 luckily. and we just lost to the ducks. there's many other games that i could mention. ill mention one more thing, the sens will go out on the ice and look like the prime lightning in 2020 the look like the sharks from 2023. or vise versa, I'm aware that its hard to play a full 100 foot game, but it is almost next to impossible for the sens to play full games. dissapoting and slow start from norris, perron, chabot, Sanderson, and pinto.
I think it's weird to compare the Oilers' start to the Panthers' when the Panthers have been leading their division
hello bar down!
When the Sens play structured hockey, they beat the best in the league, but DJ Smith sewered this team so hard that his ghost still haunts the team through mental lapses and horrendous tendencies that the new regime has to iron out over time.
wait where is Hyman? I thought he was still in Edmonton?
Injured
Personally I loved these goals 🌚
Sure..change Index for Meter and the concept is yours...
Anyone else notice the smudge on the camera lens on Luca's shoulder?
Brady Tkachuk to the Rangers would be crazy
I know Jesse loved the laine goal at the Bell Centre
I didn't know Pebbles was a hockey fan.
I love the Breakfast Club but I agree the song isn't fitting as a goal song. I liked the version of the Canucks where they had Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love instead
Oilers now have 7 players with atleast 5 goals.
trade idea:
nick schmaltz connor ingram & 3rd round for alexander georgiev and valeri nichuskin.
The hockey guy is getting strong armed
If by the trade deadline they’re miles out, I’m shaking the core up
There's no way the sens trade tkachuk to the rangers, they will lose that trade 100%.
Why is the lighting so bright on the close ups???
Sens need a true top pair right defensemen and depth scoring
As a rangers fan who is fed up with losing. I still don’t understand all the trade talk from the organization, they’re thinking out loud fr
I can’t believe Chris Kunitz was the man who is responsible for the sens downfall
As a rangers fan, blow it all up only Laffy, Cuylle and Fox should not be in trade discussions
26:56 as a rangers fan and sens season ticket holder I’d rather trade for Batherson than Tkachuk.
Admin can we get time stamps for each team
I need to find out when you guys are going to be in Muskegon.
On our way there now. Will be there Thursday, and Friday at the Lumberjacks game 👍🏽

@@danielzakrzewski.bardown Thanks, Z. I'm going to try to make it there and hopefully bring my kid. She seems to enjoy watching your videos with me on occasion even though she's not really a hockey fan like dad.
The Sens need to cancel a trip to see U2 right about now!
When are we gonna start getting pwhl content???
you guys could assign Pac to watch two weeks worth of goals to make sure he didn't miss any this week...if you actually trusted him to pull the BEST GOALS OF THE WEEK!
Hockey guy needs some credit
Ottawa is like a diet version of Vegas imo, but they should be a lot better this year
Trouba and a 2026 3rd for Zub, take it or leave it?
Did I miss something? When did Jesse get humbled?
Literally I have seen panic meters before the hockey guy did them and I have been subscribed to him for years (also his is an index technically). He didn't create it, he just popularized it on TH-cam a bit. Everyone calm down. Shannon is literally just as big as these guys
Ya sens are down bad...but they have been very close in a lot of games...I don't think it is quite as bad as it seems 🤞
