      I taught my son to swim early. I just always had floaties or life vest on him until he got bigger especially if I wasn't in the pool. He was swimming before he was out of diapers. He was in underwear by age 1. That little girl is scaring me because she took in 💦 and I don't like the breathing.It sounds too labored.

      @valeriepittman5066 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@Rosaron7 Remember, that what you are using for an example is at birth before the umbilical cord is cut. Which is in fact the actual source of oxygen the newborn is getting. As it is still attached to both the newborn, and the mother. It's also before the child breathes his/her first breath of life through his/her lungs, and before the lungs, and nasal passages have been cleared out which protects the lungs, and bronchial tubes from taking in water. So this is a poor comparison to a breathing child such as this 16 month old toddler whose body totally depends on oxygen from the air. Unbeknownst to uneducated extremists who are over zealous about a babies ability to live inside their mother's water sack, and can also be born under water is that it stops right there! As newborn human babies/toddlers, and small children are by no means as fish that have a natural built in mechanism to breathe oxygen as it dispels the water out of its gills, and other parts of it's body. After the child begins to have to depend upon his/her own lungs to breathe, they can, and do choke on small bits of water while swimming. As we all do from time to time by accidental inhalation of it. For an adult or adolescent who are strong experienced swimmers it usually isn't an issue. Since although when they are in deep water way over their head and choking badly enough so they are unable to swim to the edge of the pool or to a possible shallow end to stand in order to cough up the bit of water, still they are able to do a couple of things to save themselves that an infant/toddler, and most small children cannot do. 1. They can tread water, and usually cough the water up on their own. 2. In cases where they are not choking badly but either don't have enough time to or physically unable to swim to safety, they can quickly go down into the water until they reach the bottom with their feet, and push hard enough so that it bobs them momentarily far enough above the water to cough it up so they are not risking the inhalation of more water. This is why it's crucial for a parent to be in the water within close reach of their small child or toddler such as this one. Since although, teaching them to roll onto their back when they get out of breath is good as this 16 month old baby is doing, when choking on water it only serves to make it worse as it's much harder to cough it up while in this position, and can, and does lead to becoming strangled. And I do not intend to insult you but please don't ignorantly tell me as several uneducated people have that this is the correct position to put a drowning victim in, as by then the person is unconscious, and has to be put in this position in order for CPR to be administered but it is never the position a conscious choking person who is still able to somewhat breathe should ever be in because it will cause strangulation of the lungs where it puts the lungs in more distress so it's much more difficult to cough up the water on your own. That's why a parent should always be right there to quickly lift their small child/toddler safely out of the water until the coughing has subsided, and they are breathing freely, and able to proceed with their swimming. Otherwise, small children, and toddlers in many cases have inhaled a lot more water while choking on just a tiny bit of water. This is because the lungs has a natural, and involuntary spasmodic distress mechanism mode that it automatically, and uncontrollably goes into to rid itself of inhaled liquids. Which in turn cause uncontrollable gasping for air, and the strong likelihood of inhaling a lot of water into the lungs. And while this is a very good quality bodies have outside of water in the open air, it can quickly become a small childs worst enemy when in a pool of water. And while many parents expect to first hear a lot of loud choking, and thrashing around in the water to warn them to respond, this is rarely the case, which is why drowning is called the silent killer. Whether pool side parents thought they were watching their child closely enough is not the issue. It's all about constant clear close up visual of your little one's face, and staying very close to also hear their breathing while they swim. Regardless of how attentive a parent is about watching their little one from a pool side, precious time is wasted in getting to them regardless of how quickly the parent responds, and this has many times led to drowning incidents. By the time a parent realizes that their little one is actually in distress choking on water, and not just coughing but in need of assistance: Firstly, the response time varies because of several factors that it takes for them to process this, get up, jump into the pool which has proven to push large amounts of water into the child's face before pulling them out of the water. Regardless of how well a child can swim, parents of little ones should always be in the water with them at all times, and close enough to reach them very quickly in the all too common event they begin to choke when every second counts, and means the difference between life, and death. As there has been many circumstances where children have accidentally inhaled water. When they do it's crucial to constantly be there already beside them to instantly pull them out above the water so that they will not inhale more of it as they gasp for air.

    Fun fact: the easiest time to teach your child to swim is within the first year as they have been in water for quite some time and they have natural instinct to survive. As you can see the baby flipped over for air as soon as she felt she couldn’t breathe (instinct).

      Bullshit. There's no instinct when you don't understand or know what's going on..were not fish, we dont belong in water, babies just breath water in, until they learn otherwise.....my dad tried to do this with me and I nearly drowned. She's been taught how to swim and breath properly...I do believe that it's easiest in the first year however, there's no instinct about it. It's the fact that there's not as much fear involved, and obviously we learn better as infants for the most part anyway. Especially motor skills, and physical activities such as swimming, biking, running etc.

    Awesome!! Across the entire pool !! 👏🏻👏🏻 now that is some excellent parenting. It’s something I have never regretted teaching my boys while they were babies. As soon as their umbilical cords came off, they were in a pool and we are blessed to live by the beaches. My middle son saved 3 kids (separate events) before he was 14. One time, a mom was carrying a baby in a car seat; had her other arm full of stuff and her toddler holding her “free” hand. The toddler decided at that moment for whatever reason to just run from her and jump straight into the deep end of the pool. My son saw this happen from the opposite end -suddenly, he dropped everything, ran & dove in -rescued her in seconds flat and he was only 8. Another time we were at a hotel there were lots of people( I think it was Memorial Day weekend or the 4th ) this kid was not being watched as good as he should’ve been near water. He was on the stairs leading into the pool & apparently decided he didn’t want his floaties on, tosses them , jumps in the pool and begins to drown. No one saw him- he was bobbing in & out of the water gasping for air. My son yells out “Mom, OMG that boy is drowning”, tosses everything in his hands and jumps in:- shirt/ shoes on; not only gets the boy out of the pool but begins CPR all before anyone in his family realizes what’s going on or that it was their baby. The kid spits up all kinds of water, crying & starts hugging my son. It all happened so fast. I attribute his quick thinking to learning to swim at a very early age, being exposed to all kinds of water & the time it takes to develop into a strong, fearless swimmer. There is another story but I’ve already written a book lol. It’s so awesome that you have taught your baby to swim. I wholeheartedly wish that all parents would start them out early as I believe it makes a huge difference in water safety. Super great video.

      The child's safety has to come first over and above the mom's ego. The child was indeed struggling to get air. The mother made no attempts to rescue her toddler. This is abusive--Failure to protect the child all for the mom's ego. Right is still right and wrong is always wrong. The mom needs to review this footage of the video and review a course in pool safety for toddlers and children. My goodness indeed!

      @@ogbobbyjohnson7776 I disagree. An infant should always have a competent adult within arms reach. If you study the fact that when people drown most can not be resuscitated. No need to add to that risk when it’s preventable. Also your child should never accidentally fall in any water if properly supervised. However accidents do happen and I agree it is good to train an infant to swim and you don’t have to put the infant at risk to simulate what to do in a real emergency. The infant will remember how to swim in emergency just like riding a bike you don’t forget once you learn it.

      @@sons_of_god1306 I agree that children should be supervised at all times, otherwise it’s called negligence, but an accident implies something unexpected happening like your child walking out the back door while you’re making them food. As father of 3 I can say these kids will try to wander off and explore and I just don’t have 3 sets of eyes. We can all try our best but unfortunately how many people still lose children to kids getting out and falling into pools? In this case the mother did a great job in giving the kid some space so she can feel empowered to complete the task. Her hovering over the baby because of fear might make the baby doubt herself. She's taught her kid how to swim, something most people are too scared to do even if they have a pool that their wondering child could fall into, and just let's her figure it out. That's how we learn. Not by having adults hold our hands every second. She could have easily jumped in to get her if she needed to.
