      @@laurencarterYT Yea, I had another question...
      I have been considering liberty court as one of my accommodation choices, especially becuz of it being cheap. However, I am kinda worried that the rooms might be too small or it might feel claustrophobic. Is that true? What about the quality of the room and bathroom in general?

    • @laurencarterYT
      @laurencarterYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be-LEAVER _19 the room is small but not claustrophobic, it’s just not a lot of floor space but the desk is super long and the bed is just a standard single, wardrobe space is decent and the bathroom is quite small but again it does it’s job. i have a vlog if me moving out of my uni accom and i briefly show round my room if you would rather have an actual image of what it looks like :)

      @@laurencarterYT Okay, thx I'll check the video out. One last question...if u don't mind answering. I know that a lot of 2nd and 3rd years even postgrads live in the Jarret hall accom. Now naturally as a prospective first year I would want to be around first years students...so do u think if I do end up getting Jarrett hall as my accommodation, I might have a possibility of ending up with some of my flatmates who are maybe 2nd years or even postgrads?

    • @laurencarterYT
      @laurencarterYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be-LEAVER _19 2nd and 3rd years can’t live in uni accomodation unless special reasons to, e.g medical reason. postgraduates are in a different area of the site to undergraduates so you flat should only consist of first years. some may be a year older than you if they’ve taken a gap year but other than that they will be the same age group as you.

    Hey Lauren, thank you so much for this video!!!! I’m not even sure if you’ll see this or not but I was wondering how important do you think was living in those accommodations and not somewhere else ( like with family and all) cause my brother is thinking abt moving there and idk if I should move with him or in an accommodation🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

    • @laurencarterYT
      @laurencarterYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Thank you for watching! I mean living with him definitely would cut down on cost if your brother's place is cheaper than halls (hall prices are on the UoB website and vary depending on whether its ensuite or not etc)
      but living in halls is a good time to make friends and thus the potential to have friends to live with in the years after first year. but if you're thinking of living with your brother for all three years of your course then that wouldn't matter too much. I know some commuters, especially this year with everything being online, have struggled making friends but in normal circumstances and giving that you're not too far away from the uni you can make friends just as easily than if you weren't in halls. I hope that makes sense I fell like it's a lot of words haha, let me know if you have any other questions or want me to try explain better.

    Hey girl! I’m hopefully going to be studying at UoB in September for Dental Hygiene and Therapy, did you stay in Liberty Court by any chance? I’ve been looking at Liberty Park but think it’s called Oakbrook Park now, was wondering if you knew what that accommodation was like❤️

    • @laurencarterYT
      @laurencarterYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Olivia Lin yeah i lives in liberty court now called calthorpe court, i’ve been to liberty park as i had friends live there, it’s quite nice, the flats i saw were of a small number of people with a fairly small kitchen and “living room” area but quite modern as far as student accom goes. it’s also SUPER close to campus which is so good and it’s also en-suite and rooms are such a good size! and i think double bed as well? don’t quote me on that tho i can’t quite remember x :) i hope this helps

    • @olivialin44
      @olivialin44 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      lauren carter omg thanks for the speedy reply! I was just worried about what the actual rooms were like but if they’re a good size and that then I’m definitely not complaining lol😂Yeah I’ll be at the dental school for the majority of it so it’s closer to that than the vale I think, I know it’s meant to be more social over on there but you can still make friends anywhere I guess, I’ll follow you on insta too girl, you seem lovely🤩

    • @laurencarterYT
      @laurencarterYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Olivia Lin cheers to my sleep deprivation ;) 😂 and absolutely! the vale is only more social just due to the mass of accom over there but you make more good close friendships when in places like liberty park etc. and you’re right in saying it’s closer to the dental school. i will just warm you tho the accom is allocated randomly so even if you put it as your number 1 preference you may get something else :) x

    • @olivialin44
      @olivialin44 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      lauren carter yeahhh I’m in loads of groupchats atm and we’re all worried about not getting our choices ahaha, I’ve heard it’s less popular because it’s not on the vale compared to the likes of Mason, Bournbrook, Chamberlain etc so fingers crossed🤞🏼alsooo followed you on insta I think, mine is @livsdentaldiary❤️

    • @laurencarterYT
      @laurencarterYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Olivia Lin yeah that is very true liberty court was my 6th preference and i got that one probably because it was least popular of my other options haha. it’s good that you’re in group chats, it a good way of getting to know people and making friends before you get there, and oo thank you i’ll give you a follow back x

    Hey! Going this year. How do the gyms work and how much is the membership?

    • @laurencarterYT
      @laurencarterYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chioma Egbukwu hi! i hope you’re looking forward to joining. in terms of the UoB gym memberships vary between the type and price the cheapest last year was £99 for nine months for just the gym at off peak times and they go up from there to about £300 ish pounds for the gym, swimming pool, squash courts etc. so it depends on what you want from the gym, i got the £99 one last year and i found it great. obviously the gym is closed right now due to the pandemic but hopefully they’ll slowly open over the next few months. here’s the link for the website page for their student memberships sportandfitness.bham.ac.uk/join/student/ :) hope this helps!

      hi! it's a good school in rankings of the UK, they have some organisation issues, but they're are working on it and I think it is largely down to the shift to online learning but as I said they're definitely getting used to that and getting better at it
      the lecturers are all specialised in different areas so it's really interesting to see their own personal research and projects they're working on as well as being able to be taught by them as you can tell they definitely know the topic inside and out
      i hope this helps - if you have any other questions I'm happy to answer as best as I can, I'm in second year so I don't know too much about the MSc course specifically but i can try my best :)

      Al To hi i would say it is expensive but it is en-suite and very close to the university. you don’t get much cheaper for en-suite at the university. tourmkr.com/G1NX1tBTOL/10240646p,2856945m,278.22h,91.16t that link is for a 360 tour of the accommodation, you can see the rooms by clicking on the different floor numbers in the side. it is worth noting though that for any accommodation the pictures are not exactly what it’ll be like in person just because they obviously do display them for show and advertisement, but it shouldn’t be too far off just with no decoration and a bare mattress :) i hope this helps

    What is the process of getting your accommodation offer? is it soon after results day and how do you find out? xx

      Alex Barker i got an email either day after results day saying which one i got given. within the email there is also steps to take for sending the accommodation company your details etc to pay for the accommodation etc. you should have a request or information of some sort by now, again by email i think, on how to put your preferences of accommodation down for the uni. i hope this helps :) x

      Alya Zaira thank you so much! fantastic to hear you’re joining! if you go to the fan and fresh facebook page (facebook.com/groups/470776866402274/?ref=share) you can advertise that spare room, i think they’ll be a few people still looking for a place to stay :) 💗
