In my humble opinion this is to this day the tightest, funkiest DMC performance ever. How Static didn't win this I have no idea. My VHS copy of ths 98 DMC is long gone, but every so often I have to search for this on TH-cam to remind me of what real DJing is all about. It all went downhill shortly after this. Static, I salute you.
This is one of my favorites all time routines. You don’t see this type of style in juggling nowadays. All you need are buttons and a gimmick to win a DMC nowadays, and even those beats they make with the buttons ain’t even close to touching the music and creativity this guy is making in the routine. And this shit was over 20 years ago.
If you watch the whole contest, a lot of dj's could have won that awesome year : DJ Craze : unbeatable, DJ Crazy B : original turntables disposition and very very close but always second... dj Akakabe : amazing technic and fast moves, dj Dexta from The Avalanches group : amazing choice of music and technic, DJ A Trak : young and true djing talent, DJ Static and DJ Jay K : the most groovy and funky, old school routine ! DJ Mouss : scratch power and great arabic melody, Prime cuts : good technic and nice sound choice, DJ Kollasso : awesome scratching technic and nice music groove, Dj Coki : friendly and funny. Too hard for the juges :) small exception : DJ Lil'Jaz : boring and disappointing...
@@Juanjuke6342 1998 was a loaded masterclass. Miss this level of juggling. I wish the young kids nowadays would go back to backspin patterns instead of being so reliant on cues. DJing has gone to total shit, I cant even believe the routines that are winning nowadays
@@Sonnylintag so true indeed and unfortunately... I recently watched on youtube dmc dj battles btw 2001 & 2005 and the level was totally crap ! The fact is that any dj selected for the final round in 1998 or 1999 had his chance to win the 1st place after 2000... even Lil jaz, the worst dj in 1998...
Even with the skip this destroyed everything else. Like bozwellox, I have to go back to this now and again to remind me what a Routine should sound like!
DMC 98, best one ever in my opinion! Almost every set was class, just a couple of not so class ones. Still have the original VHS. Jay K really stood out too!

One of my all time favorite routines. Performance is Spot On!

Which ones weren't class? I thought they all were nice in their own sets.
Hella clean
I think the danish absolutely ruled in constructing a set back in those days man ... so much funk and such dry delivery ...
Absolutely blown my mind this performance!!
That was one hell of a tight and very dope routine.
That routine was tight!
Very clean routine and well thought out.
