What an incredible top 10...Onin, Gluttony, Tweek, Proto, Tea, Shuton, Light, Spargo, Acola and Leo. That's three american players, one french player, two mexican players and *four* japanese players. That's 7 players that are already long established as top players, one that became a top player in 2021 and the two steve mains in 2022.

His character I completely understand, but the guy isn't toxic and his playstyle is really really good, I'd even argue that if you look pass his character you'd be quite impressed by his play. Especially when he's in an actually close game

Very solid list. Tweek feels like he should be higher but that is recency bias. When taking into account all of 2022 this list seems great.

Idk why people have this idea that Leo's losing motivation. He's still trying his best to win almost every tournament he attends. I can understand not trying too much at Scuffed World Tour, but he was definitely trying to win at LMBM.
Light many many of us believe in you, keep grinding and prove yourself to be the best. Do whatever it takes and never look back. Keep working, keep getting better and amaze the world. Also Mkleo, very well deserved at #1

@@Norticus It really is. EchoRank already has Sparg0 at #1. And it was revealed that Acola would've taken #1 here if he hadn't bustered out at Seibugeki.

The main reason why despite his last few results, MkLeo is still at the top is that at this point, him finishing 4th is still shocking to people and seen as a negative result, which is something most players hopes to achieve, so his lowest, is most player's peak/goal.
Sparg0 couldn't handle the pressure and took a break, he came back stronger than ever and I do believe he will be the top if he continues doing things as he has done lately, he will have to fight not only leo but also Tweek, who has been a force of nature lately, another player with more issues in the mental deparment than the actual skill, and has grown a ton this year, if he continues being solid, I can see the top 3 being those players in a very close fight.
As for Japan, while I do think acola is really good, I also think that the meta's getting used to Steve's antics, so he will have to work really hard to stay at the top, specially in a region as competitive as Japan, there's a few players from that region that are extremely good and have yet to polish their game to the limit, like Yoshidora, however, those players also have adult lifes so I don't really expect anyone like that to take over the world, as remaining competitive takes a lot of time.
I do think a lot of things will change in the rankings, despite the drama and issues we had last year, I do think the future of Ultimate is very bright.
acola is still dominating Japan right now tbf. He won Japan 24 and Umebura SP 9. Also just as an added correction, Sparg0 didn't get into a break because of Smash, but because he fell into depression due to causes outside of Smash. The pressure of trying to get the #1 spot wasn't the reason he went into hiatus.
@@SeriousStriker still, people are slowly adapting to Steve, he's just that much better so it would take longer to catch up to his level, Onin is no longer the threat he was 6mo ago.

This is such an exciting time to be an Ultimate fan, with so many people who can easily be switched in placings between top 10-20. Even the (current) #1 spot is debatable, with Leo, Sparg0, Acola and Tweek all having a shot at it.
I think for 2022, #1 is solid. recency bias might affect it - it’s only been 2 weeks and 2023 feels wider open

Me not watching smash ulimate tournaments in 2022 was just so curious on who Acola was and who this man used. He was at least 10 peoples demon throughout the top 100.

Bro it’s crazy how winning a major no longer guarantees top 20, the competition is so close! I remember when only top 5 players were winning majors and everyone else got shut out, but now it seems like a ton of players have a really good chance of making it big!

The clips of English rebroadcasts of the JP majors having such lifeless commentary with the hyped up JP comms in the background will never stop being funny.

@@jenievangelou1359 it's not that, the American comms are all on an at home restream probably at 6 in the morning or something for them so I'm not hugely surprised. They also usually don't have high profile commentators for it either.

Missed an opportunity to say “we’ve seen both VERSIONS of Tweek this year”
I like the commentary here but it eludes the fact that if it weren't for Acola's 9th at Seibugeki, a tournament which was BO3 before top 8, he would've been #1 results wise for the year.
While it's possible that he returns to form and continues to dominate, his 5th at Scuffed and now 4th at LMBM make it so that currently Acola, Sparg0 and Tweek are all challenging the throne.
Genesis 9 is in a week, and all 4 of them are attending, making for a great storyline.
A lot of players on the list would have been better if not for a single bad placement. Listing them all might get tedious ig

I swear Yoshidora is so sick if he entered na events he would get top 10
imo, Japan is horrendously underrated. Japanese players are way more creative in their neutral game and have a level of patience which most American sub-PGR players just don't. The Japanese metagame is the most advanced of any region, so it's the hardest to be consistent in.
Acola is number 1 in my opinion. The only reason there is an argument for Leo is that he is 2-0 against Acola; but given Leo's struggle against proto and shuton, I doubt he would have had the same level of consistency if he lived in Japan.
I’m hoping next year we see some big shifts. Not because I want to see the Titans fall but just cause I love the new faces.

I don't understand the "Tournament Character Usage" chart in the bottom left. There are multiple percentages that don't add to 100, but more than that. Why?
How many majors did they use their character. If it's at 100%, they used the character at every major they went to.

This does not show precisely how much they use the character though, unfortunate. Like, if they use a character in all the majors but only one game for major that character would still have 100%, despite almost never being used.

I don't want to be the first one that says it, but I'm a little confused about what some of these terms mean/how they work. Perhaps a small explanation of some aspects on-screen (like character percentages - how do so many individuals have more than 100% character usage?) would've gone a long way in making this just a small bit more useful for newer viewers to understand what we're looking at. Just a small suggestion; I love essentially everything else about these videos!
It’s the percent of tournaments they used a character. They can play multiple characters per tournament. So their mains are usually used in 100% of tournaments they played, and secondaries will have usage in some matches in some tournaments
@@cli1106 Is there any particular reason that method of measurement would be utilized over displaying the percentage for how much each player used any character in individual matches? Identifying character usage per tournament as opposed to simply how many times they used the character this year seems like an unnecessary additional step imo

@@BlackHole-qw9qg Well, that opinion seems pretty subjective to me, and even if that were true, for the sake of new viewers, I'm not sure that would entirely warrant going the extra step to be more complicated than simply treating the character usage leading up to 100% as parts of a whole (like an actual percentage that could be substituted for something akin to pie chart - that would be much more visually intuitive, imo).
For instance, how would a new player know that method of measurement was "more intuitive"? The fact that I had to be told that by someone doesn't mean that it's inherently true, after all. I could be the only one confused about this kind of thing though, and in that case I suppose my comment could be ignored 😂 but I believe other casual viewers might be perplexed as well, on this aspect or another, so suggesting these individuals at OrionRank offer a more in-depth explanation to the visual elements we can see on the screen would do wonders for making these stats more readily understandable to new viewers.

Also the "blessing, rival and demon" thing is actually cool. Seeing some players have close setcounts despite being some ranks away is cool. Like seeing the top 1 and top 3 players both have gluto as their rival is fun. The man is better against mexicans lmao.
Overall i think the ranking is good even though its still difficult to rank japanese player who dont travel at all. I think some of them are a little bit overranked but maybe some of them actually deserve better so we cant know for now
Both Yoshidora and Hero said on their streams that they will go abroad this year.
Looking at the vs Top 20, vs Top 100, and vs All Qualifiers, it makes me think Acola got robbed since he has a better winrate than Leo in all categories

great video but seasons are traditionally done in half years. before they got cancelled we already knew the rankings for the first half of 2022. would have been more interested in seeing the rankings for jul-dec 2022 instead of all of 2022 to reflect a more traditional recent season.
That's what SSBURank is doing. OrionRank always does it in full years. I think having it in both is great.
