      With stagnant sales and losing a large amount of money, Rivian needs to get to scale quick, with a cheaper SUV like the R2. And It's at least 3 yrs away. Rivian doesn't have the cash, and unless they can raise cash on the market, or have Amazon or Apple buy them, they may not be around in 3 yrs.

    The Rivian is the easy choice if it keeps the price and turns out to be reliable. The main thing the Y has going for it is price and practicality. And it exists.

    • @frescosmalls
      @frescosmalls 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I can’t imagine the R2 actually keeping the advertised starting price. Rivian already has a history of increasing prices before delivery, and the R2 reservation terms have a clause that allows them to change the price.
      That being said, I did reserve the R2 anyway, and if it does in fact keep the price at 45k (as well as gets the full $7500 tax credit) I think it has a real shot to be a good competitor to the Model Y. We’ll just have to see what happens for the next 2 years. I’d choose the Rivian over the Model Y any day at the same price.

    Based solely on design, Rivian R2 has it hands down. Still Tesla Model Y is more mature and reliable in terms of platform, software, safety, driving assistance technology, and features (e.g., hepa filter/bioweapon defense mode, camp mode). Repair shops and aftermarket accessories are much more accessible for the Model Y as well. Rivian R2 would be my choice as a rental for a camping road trip, but for a daily driver I'd have to go with the Model Y. I'm actually waiting for the refreshed Model Y, which is the vehicle the Rivian R2 will be competing with when it comes out in 2026.

    Just got my Model Y. WHY... cause of the price, it was $45K out the door and then we have $11K in MA to deduct. Everything said and done, taxes and all fees... total cost... $39,326.25 for a long range model Y.
    Also, the Model Y has been revised at least two times (most say four times). Just this year there has been a bunch of things that Tesla has done... specifically, the hepa filter, thicker glass and more carpet everywhere, faster CPU. I feel the model Y is a much more mature EV.
    The EV is for my wife but I am surprised how much I like it.

    As a Rivian R1S adventure, package owner I would say Tesla is going to have to really start reinventing it design strategy.
    Tesla seems to have had a marketing strategy of having some thing that was technologically, innovative, and offered some that the competitors didn’t. That was in a market that was filled with combustion cars. Tesla was like the eccentric uncle and a family gathering with car manufacturers.
    Now the tables have changed with Rivian. Rivian offers almost as much as Tesla does technology wise. There’s limitations on apps like there’s no TH-cam and things like that in the car. There’s no self driving. Rather, it’s like an assisted self driving. But I don’t know how much I would trust a full self driving car anyway.
    Now Rivian comes and what they offer is basically everything you could get with a Tesla. But more room, luxury, and durability than Tesla.
    I often compare the build quality of the Rivian R1S to a 1970s Cadillac. Only much more advanced. Whenever I ride around in a Tesla model, three the seats are so uncomfortable. It feels like you’re driving lawn furniture or something. While you’re driving a Rivian, you can probably say this was made in America. All of it the parts manufacturing all of it. American built quality.
    With a Tesla it’s like it was made in China mostly. When you drive both Rivian’s and Teslas, you can feel the difference of where it’s from.
    When you drive the Rivian R1S you feel like Superman.
    When you drive a Tesla, if you feel a little bit like Doc back to the future. After driving it for about five hours and then taking back, you kind of walk like him too.

    I’m a big fan of tesla design, I have a Model 3 and Model Y in our garage, but I definitely want to see Rivian succeed. Their products have great design language and some fantastic design cohesion and use of space inside.
    Maybe one day Tesla and Rivian will become the Ford/Chevy rivalry of the 21st century.
    I’m not a fan of SUVs, I prefer cars and wagons, so I probably won’t be buying a Rivian in the near future, but I’m rooting for them. They’re keeping Tesla from resting on their laurels.

      I like how successful Tesla has become for the adoption of EVs, but it's not like they haven't had issues. Tesla is not making money on every car they make (mostly cybertruck), has historically had unreliable batteries (which have certainly improved but they were sketchy at the beginning), and rigged their range estimate tests. I think there's still a decent chance Rivian makes it if they can get new cars to market, especially when considering Tesla's insane ups and downs.

    • @pnketia
      @pnketia 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AnoNymous-nm6mm NOT TRUE! site your sources for unreliable batteries for Tesla. Cybertruck is not at full production so yes it is not making money, but I said every "car" they make not truck! Tesla struggled during low interest rates and easy lending by banks, Rivian is struggling during high interest rates and bank tightening of lending. You are gullible if you think we are going back to low interest rates which means Rivian will struggle even more than Tesla in a worse environment for a start up.

      What does it matter if it's a car or a truck? As vehicles with the intent to produce profit for a company, Rivian's R1 and numerous Tesla vehicles have taken money to make money,@@pnketia. I am cautiously optimistic that Rivian can succeed with their newer, cheaper, models that will serve a similar role to the 3 and the Y. My understanding of Tesla's batteries is that their quality has improved over time so I'd assume, like many brands, Rivian's will as well. I should've looked into their batteries before using that to "defend" Rivian, because I do know that they're safe; I've just heard of customers having garbage batteries and not getting support from Tesla. But that's too anecdotal to make it seem widespread, so sorry.

    Rivian's new R2 & R3 look fine. But Rivian's existing models also look fine. The $45,000 starting price for the R2 is fine. Just like the $80k starting price for the R1S is fine. But the most pressing question remains. How is Rivian going to make a profit on the R2 if not able to make a profit on any of its other vehicles? As usual, during the reveal, Rivian was silent on the issue of profits. Given Rivian's $1.5 bill loss in 4Q23, Rivian really needs to address the issue of profits. In 4Q23, Rivian's gaap loss was $107.4k/vehicle. Rivian can roll out all the models it wishes. But without making a profit, it's all for naught. It's madness to buy a vehicle from a company clearly headed for bankruptcy

    By the time the Rivian cars get to market sometime in 2 or 3 years, at the rate they are losing money, probably they will run out of cash, so watch it before you reserve one with a down payment. As Elon Musk said : It is easy to make a prototype , but extremely difficult to produce on scale.

    We now have a direct competitor to the best-selling Model Y. Really? I have to take issue with choosing to use the word 'now'. Perhaps what you really meant to say is, "We may have at some time in the future a direct competitor to the Model Y." We have had numerous direct competitors to Tesla announced in the past. How is Lucid doing now, after all of Peter Rawlinson's trash talking of Elon? The Mustang Mach E is another example. Most of the others have been renderings, hot air, smoke and mirrors. None on the road.
