+Josh Fraga Rode it in the back the first time and you get so much airtime when you go down the first drop. I was so scared to put my hands up the first few times I rode it, but when I finally did it, the airtime became more enjoyable. Definitely worth it to ride the back seat.
I used to ride the front all the time and thought it was boring until one of my friends suggested the back. Never will I look at the ride the same!
Same at the very back you get that awesome feeling in your stomach.

so I decided to ride it with my friends and my bro the line was like 20 minutes long which is not that bad but for me it was 20 trying not to let the chocolate milk bust open if u know what I'm saying so we finally get to the seat so I sit down and buckle myself in I take a look at the drop and I said hell na my brother was like what after all this time I was like sorry but screw that so I stared my walk of same to the exit the workers and people in line looked at me in confusion then they realized that I was that guy would would have crapped myself so I sat down in the bench that's a flight of stairs down and before another flight if stairs so I chilled there till my friends were finished but every person who saw me knew that I buged out at the last second and I don't regret it at all I saved the live of my Calvin Klein underwear

Iron Rattler is better than the other RMC roller coasters, and this is coming from a guy who loves Cedar Point to death. CP needs to add a RMC Hybrid coaster that is built from scratch. Never been on an RMC coaster. B&M rocks!!!!!!!!!

I love this new version, but there will never be anything quite like riding the old one and bracing yourself when it would bank and twist because you knew it would hurt like hell lol. I never once got off of it without my back or neck hurting, but it was so much fun.

These coasters look like so much fun, but it just seems like the novelty and allure of the wooden coaster is destroyed. This is basically a steel coaster with wooden supports, its smooth, and has inversions. There is something to be said about the rickety, out and back style wooden coasters live Shivering Timbers, Mean Streak, and Comet. The sense of history is going down the drain.
Dude. I ride it when it was wooden and i had the worst pain in that ride. Also they changed it because the ride stopped and people had to climb down. That's why they have steel an the steel feels so fun and scary!
my boring imagination I hear ya dude. I'm just saying that wooden coasters have a particular history about them and they were extremely different from their steel counterparts. I liked the idea of going to a park and being able to get totally different experiences from the different coasters they had. If you ride steel coasters, you have SLC's, Giga and Strata-Coasters, LIM coasters, etc. All providing different experiences. And then you can ride wood coasters which were totally different experiences from the steel. There was a fine line and now it's being blurred with the introduction of RMC wooden coaster designs. It's all good because I would still ride it and love it, but I hope the art of building traditional wooden coasters does not get lost in history.
They didn't change it because they stopped. Six flags wanted to do another rmc and chose rattler. Coasters stop and people have to climb down a lot, it would never cause a ride to shut down.
Years ago I rode the old Rattler and if you weren't in the very front your back got fucked up. All I could think about was how much pain I had in my back and I was like 15 back then. This new ones blows the old one out of the water.
Tommy Carr it shut down because somebody died on the rattler when it was all wooden. it was on the news years ago.

Ah I remember living in San Antonio back when this was a full wooden coaster. I plan to visit again give this new incarnation a shot!
P.S. while I have fond memories of old San Antonio, I'm happy in Seattle for now and I plan on staying here, though I will visit SA again one day.
Some of them have rides that eject newborn babies into a pit of ravenous wolves, but those aren't as popular in America.

I remember when the Rattler was just a few carts and lap-bar. No headrests and if they guy next to you was fat then the bar was rather lose on you.

Yeah, the rattling and shakiness made the ride what it was, but I guess it just got too rough over the years. Making it smooth takes away from the experience

The rattling "effects" were actually just the brutal roughness of the ride. Plus, they turned a terrible Dinn Corp into a world-class coaster, so I don't see any reason to complain.
+koolkatSMBX My dad and sister use to always get on the old one every time we went to six flags and they always warned me that back was gonna hurt afterwards. My first time riding the rattler was on the new one and it was the best roller coaster in the park. But I do wish I could ride the older one no matter the pain

Honestly, this ride is actually not scary x'D The New York, New York rollercoaster in Las Vegas is about the same as this one! The only thing that gets me on this ride is the drop but everything else is very nice and fun! :D AND this is coming from a teen that's afraid of coasters! The swing ride is actually WORSEE! Also the first time I rode this, I was in the back and it wasn't scary AT ALL! So I can just imagine the front... The ride is so addicting I rode it 3 more times on the first day I went on it, lol!
Tips on how to make it not scary:
1. You know you're about to go on the drop when you're at the top and it pauses for a sec.
2. Don't put your hands up
3. When you're on the top of the drop, TAKE IN A DEEP ASS BREATH & SCREAM ALL YOU CAN while you're going down :) and curse all you can lmao (IT HELPS)
4. Just keep screaming and you'll want to come back for more ;DD
5. OH AND CLOSE YOUR EYES!!
6. Take a deep breath, curse, close your eyes
7. Enjoy!
Also, THERE IS A MILD TURN UPSIDE DOWN (it's not bad at all!!) AND THERE's only 1 giant drop- after that the ride is fun :D

I rode this on Saturday....I've got to say its much better than the original. Faster, smoother, and those drops are intense. Also, there is pretty much nothing to hang on to....sit in the back.
I was kinda disappointed when the lights weren't on in the tunnel when I went. Leave it to Six Flags to only run that kind of stuff for a couple months then not bother with it after.
Ok... I told myself I would never ride this ride... EVER. And 5 seconds later my sister was dragging me on in tears and I slapped the crap out of her when we got to the hill because she told me it wasn’t that high and I don’t regret a THING from that day. I love this ride now and it is my favorite. Definitely going on it next week when I go again. 💀
I just came from riding this crazy ride, man this was the best rollercoaster ride I have ever rode, wish I could have bought a iron rattler shirt.

They're actually very safe. Lap bars keep you just as safe as over the shoulder restraints.
I remember when the original was a beast. Hurt your back and knees if you were tall, so the first drop was reduced in angle, but it was bumpy as all Mustafar (Hell), and the tunnel was pitch black.

You feel giddy and are having a great morning because that's what San Antonio does to people. It has an aura about it that just makes a person feel welcome and even at home. I know. I live there.
The only rollercoaster I ever cried on. 180ft drop. Not. Fun.

You have to try it yourself. They get soooo snug you cannot feel any more safe than this ride.
That's what I said when I first rode it, but they make sure it goes in as far as possible and they have seat belts for added protective after that woman in Dallas died on the Texas Giant
This is actually a great ride! It use to be more dangerous when it was wood but now your brain says "your gonna die" but sadly what happen to the women in Dallas they added more safety! They added a belt to keep you in and those little soft bars on your shoulders.
Also you feel secure in it with the safety so dont worry :)
I'm not emo mom Yeah but they added that seatbelt AFTER someone died at the Texas Giant since they had similar qualities. Meaning they wouldnt think twice about adding that seatbelt had nobody flew off from the ride.
The worst part is the climb

I went on a not so busy day and rode this beast three times in the row. Front, back and middle. You sure do get different experiences on this ride. The front is scary with the drop, the back is crazy with the whiplash and speed and the middle is ok. Just a great coaster all around. My only complaint is that it’s very short. Wish it was a little longer.
It took three rides on it to really appreciate it, but now Iron Rattler is my favorite coaster. It isn't as visual as Superman or as crazy as Poltergeist, but the first drop, airtime, and abundant overbanked turns as well as the interaction with the cliff make Iron Rattler a world-class roller coaster.
I can see why Six Flags uses RMC a lot Because I think Lighting Rod and RMC's are the only ones Giving B&M & Intamin a run for Their Money
Usually when the train gets really slow after a time you can't enjoy it as much as before, because you know it will end soon. But this thing is super fancy because of the second unexpected drop!
I do not like coasters... but I road the Iron rattler twice in a row... my family was in awe XD
Especially after my first upside down coaster rides on the Krypton and Dare Twister were so rough that day XD

The old 'hoop-de-doo" section on the original was lame. It looks great here.
I still think they could have done so much more using Topper Track instead of I-Box (difference being that RMC uses steel wheels on topper track, and therefore less friction). But for what it is, looks like it's a pretty darn great ride.
I heard they're redoing colossus at Magic Mountain to have this type of layout, and calling it Iron Colossus.. I hope it happens!!!

So I rode this today as well and I've got to say...Video doesn't do this ride justice! My first thoughts were "That's too short." After riding it today I take my comments back. This is a crazy intense ride!
It’s absolutely spectacular at night & even better now that they stopped using the brakes at the top...it just goes on over w/o slowing down.
The scariest part is the fall, where you get that "downhill" feeling, I know because I rode it, and almost pissed myself.

I think people who bitch about you being obnoxious on a roller coaster have never actually been on one, otherwise they would know that being quiet on a roller coaster is not possible.
I think that the back of a ride is best, you get pulled through inversions more. This looks good though. This year is going to be the best for new rides! Just a couple more still to come.
Just rode this at night, temperature around 40F. Most fun I've had in a long time. Love this ride!

the one thing that scared me the most about this ride is that It had no seat belts at first. it was just a bar that went over your lap.
I would be a bit scared with just a seatbelt. And I don't really get scared on roller coasters.
The lap bar is a lot sturdier than a two-point seat belt. Plus, there's no way for you to get out of it, unlike a seatbelt which you could simply unbuckle.
Rode this yesterday. Smoothest and yet scariest gotdamn coaster I've ever been on. I *will* be back.

I rode in the back with my friend and we were tight into the seat and we both flew up from the chair on the big drop bit overall the ride is awsome

Today I went to six flags fiesta texas with my friend and his dad first we rode the boomerang then the road runner then the Iron rattler and then the superman then the scream I can't keep track we rode so much I'm so proud of myself and my friend and his dad is too were all proud and he iron rattler was the one that got me the most I can still feel like I'm on the ROLLAR coaster even know its been like 5 hours sence we got back at like 6:00 I love it
Although I love this new bread of coaster - they remind me of the famouse triplets by Fred Church. I do think they have made a big mistake by making the riders so open to the elements. The ride should be more enclosed, have a hand rail to hold onto and most importantly have some sort of secondary lap bar - like a safety belt. You only have to look at the tragic sercumstaces on the Texas Giant to realise they must alter the rides carriages and harnesses.
We got to drive down to San Antonio last week and ride this. I was gitty with anticipation. If I hadn't already ridden Texas Giant a few dozen times, I would have been more excited coming off. It seemed to only last half as long as TG, and I am sure it's my imagination, but TG seemed faster. Probably b/c they practically stop the train before going over the hill. Maybe I'd like IR more if I ride in the back seat next time. It was good, but TG spoiled me! RMC hit a home-run on TG!
Wow, this looks impressive! I heard they were going to tear down the old Rattler and rebuild it similar to the new Texas Giant with the steel rails. Thusfar I have not ridden a coaster like this, so I don't know how it rides. One thing is for certain, I like the way they look. I am VERY happy to see that the original drop has returned on this ride and the overall layout looks MUCH faster and interesting. Gone is that hideous helix. I love that last dive into 'the pit'. Now I want to ride it!
OMG I just rode it today and I have to say that this outdoes the Superman by a longshot. The back is the best seat because you float and your butt is up in the air almost the whole duration of the ride. It feels so good going over that first drop with your hands up in the air because you FLY down the hill. My new favorite ride at Fiesta Texas. Epic can't even come close to describing the amazing ride. If you come here, you must ride it if you are a coaster enthusiast.
Another masterpiece by Rocky Mountain, hard to believe that they didn't do this sooner as they may have been able to save some older rides (Hercules at DP Hurricane at MBP is the park didn't shut down according to Wikapedia they did repairs on it), PLEASE MOUNT OLYMPUS HAVE THEM WORK ON ZEUS! that aside, the part at the top of the cliff is kind of slow, but that's to be expected as it would always be slower up there since there's no big drops to keep the speed going, something that the helix did

It is? I have not ridden one of these yet, but so far looks wise, they do look fantastic. Granted they are not really a wooden coaster anymore, but they certainly look impressive. Senary wise this one definitely takes it. Looks like one day I am going to have to get my butt out to Texas and do both this AND the New Texas Giant.
Kinda sad to see what was at its birth one of the fastest wooden roller coasters around torn apart, but it was never the same after they killed thi hill for "saftey" I've riddem the original rattler dozens of times, and ever sense the hill kill it became slow, one turn got down to nearly if not less thsn 10 mph. This is a much needed redo
From east to west: Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, Dorney Park in Allentown Pennsylvania, Hersheypark in Hershey Pennsylvania, Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio. I'm doing this exact trip except in reverse, starting from the west in Ohio. If you're starting up in Maryland, you can hit Six Flags New England as well before Six Flags Great Adventure.
It's an awesome roller coaster, but I didn't feel 100% secure. I think it's the fact you have nothing to hang on to. Lol

Ok so this is the best ride ever my dad won vip passes on the raideo so we were on it on the very first day it opend like they closed the park to everybody els and pple with vip passes got to stay and ride we were on the 4th cycle and the front seat omg it was awsome

Do you think you're still able to remain "objective"? For instance, the second part of the ride looks like the "trick track" section of Thunder Dolphin you ridiculed, but slower and ... not on top of a building in the middle of Tokyo.
Best ride at SFFT, BY FAR. I'm glad I suppose that some people actually enjoyed the old Rattler, but I'll never understand why. For anyone who missed riding the old Rattler, tie a metal trashcan lid to the bumper of a truck. Have a friend drag you 55MPH down a gravel road. That's about 90% of the experience! Forget snakes, the old Rattler was so-named for a good reason. Just not fun.
And a giant helix that has such horrid pacing that you could read War and Peace in its entirety while you go through it.
yea they put seat belts on cause the other texas giant lap bar came up and the laddy dies at six flags over texas, but it is an awsome ride!!! its fast and u dont get butterflies on the drop like other roller coasters, its a rush and i would ride it 24/7 lol
