    Totally agree regarding setting a budget - I never budget, but I save and invest at least 60% of my monthly salary as soon as it comes in and do the other things. I don't like the restrictive feeling of a budget and have done just fine.

    • @TheMummyBubble
      @TheMummyBubble  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      It's really important people find what works for them. 60% is absolutely amazing! I also think a budget that doesn't work precisely can put people off making efforts to cut back.

      I'm glad for you that you have a salary whereby you can afford to do that. Some folks just don't earn enough. So saying, I save a couple of pounds a week.

      @lynnoorman2144 that is true, I am fortunate and didn't mean to post that to show off, sorry if it came off that way. I did come from a family who didn't always have money to put food on the table so I guess the fear of that motivates me. I can understand if the income isn't high and/or basic needs are expensive, that makes it incredibly hard to save.

    Personally I use dollars but not USD and I don’t mind you speaking pounds. It’s your currency and people should just apply it to their currency. For instance the maths is the same 10+10=20 regardless of currency.

    It's recommended to save at least 15% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 15% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

      For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I both spent same number of years in the civil service, she invested through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning after our retirement.

      It's unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $875k by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.

    Budgets do not work. They restrict. And now I am wealthy because I saw the truth about having a budget. Yes fixed monthly expenses are expected. A car loan. A mortgage. A retirement contribution. But other expenses are not fixed and probably should not be budgeted for in my opinion. Today I saved $40 dollars on mulch and am now $40 dollars richer. A budget would have prevented me from spending my money on a good deal.

    Love the fact that £500 can accrue so much interest. I'm of an age where I'm trying to put as much as I can into my pension and I'm paying two extra AVCs as I only have 7 more years to retirement and unfortunately didn't consider this as a priority until a couple of years ago but I've also managed to invest another £100 a month as well for the last couple of years and its averaging between 7 & 8% so far. It's scary when the rates go down but so far I'm holding my nerve and long-term it seems to be paying off.

    • @TheMummyBubble
      @TheMummyBubble  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes I so agree, I only wish I had considered longer term goals and how interest could help me back in my 20s. I'm trying to make up for it now.

    I have always found that the numbers for a budget are never accurate. You don't know what coming up. I end up being able to pay less on clothes some months for example (next to nothing) and yet Ive budgetted for it - encourages me to spend when there is no need.The same with food. Instead I go through my monthly expenses on line to keep myself disciplined. I know what I need to save and I just keep reigning it in as much as possible. Organising and planning instead of knee jerk or panic buying is so important. My car battery went 70miles from home and instead of panicking and joining the AA for a huge one off cost and enforced yearly contract, I phoned a local towing company to where I was who took me to a local car parts shop, halving the cost. Boredom anxiety and poor organisation are my greatest enemies.

      Perhaps when talking about different currencies ,have the figures written on a board, showing us the figures, giving you a wider audience in different countries. I am a newbie at saving , what type of investment should I research on to give me a fixed high interest for say 10 years which doesn’t lose me any capital and if I need emergency funds can make withdrawals or should I go for 2 separate one to make withdrawals in an emergency and the other to not touch until the end of 10 years paying in monthly.
