Swedish Christmas tradition ---> celebrate it on the evening of the 24th, because "Little Christmas" on the 23rd is full of "must do"'s like prepare some food for christmas eve, wrap the gifts, put them under the tree or even in a bag somewhere, this is really when it all starts.
And at midnight you go outside and say a spell to the stars and you can talk to your animals (yeeeeeees folklore is great!)
Next day, 24th, Christmas Eve, everyoen gathers at 3 (15.00) in the afternoon to watch Donald Duck's Christmas liek we have done every year for yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaars back. Then its again back to prepare dinner, eat it, eat the rise pudding for dessert and then open gifts. :)
25th here to most swedes are just celebrated if you have more than one family you need to celebrate with, otherwise it's just enjoy your gifts and finish the leftover ham, meatballs, salmon and whatever else you had for christmas dinner. :)
    Lovely tradition.
But it comes from nordic mythology aswell, with Oden/Odin riding out to gift gifts or coal to children. Indeed. Did you not know this?

It kind of makes sense as it's really the long night that is celebrated making the eve the right "day" for the celebration.

As a swede it is fun that one can hear his dialect when he sings in swedish. He's from the same city as me, in the north of Sweden, so I know it well. Usually swedish singers don't have this dialect so it isn't very common.

Tommy has probably heard this song sung in the Swedish language every December since he was walking around in diapers but performed by the great Swedish tenor Jussi Bjorling. For me it is not Christmas until I have heard “O Helga natt “. Tommy sing this almost as good as Jussi. ( maybe I am a little old fashion)🤠

Its a french song from the beginning and the music was written in the 1830,s by Adolphe Adam. Origina lyrics by Placide Cappeau. So in Sweden this song actually goes under the name “Adams song” (Adams sång)

Hearing Tommy sing in our mother language sends shivers down my spine. 😍
Most people in Sweden doesnt think of christmas as a religious holiday. Christmas is more of a tradition from the past here, because Swedes in general arent religious at all, and doesnt think of christmas as birth of Christ.
Most Swedes are just happy being free from work a few days and spending time with family and friends.
I think thats the biggest difference between how Swedes and Americans look at christmas.

    • @Northman-from-the-North
      @Northman-from-the-North ปีที่แล้ว +3

Jul, or jól was celebrated here in Scandinavia long, long before christianity at the wintersolstice in the middle of january. Later, in the 900 century during the reign of Harald Fairhair the celebration of jól was removed to the same date as christmas. In Scandinavia the old name jól became what we today knows as jul.

Christmas is my familys favourite holiday. It starts 4 sundays in advance (called Advent). On the 13th of dec we celebrate Lucia in different ways, but always with carrols/psalms and often in the Lucia parade, the kids dress up as little santa, angels etc. We celebrate on the 24th of dec. My kids gets to celebrate both on the 24th and the 25th i.e. since my wife and I comes from different countries. We tend to celebrate mostly with our closest family but also with friends beforehand or after. Merry christmas to you all /// Btw....great reaction !!! /// Cheers from Sweden

Probably my favorite Christmas carol. Did you ever see Floor perform this in Finnish at Raskasta Joulua? There are videos of her doing it in 2016 and 2019. Here is the 2016 version, when she was like 6+ months pregnant. th-cam.com/video/c7FB1bLwtx0/w-d-xo.html. I’m pretty much a sucker for old fashioned American Christmas traditions. We love going to the candlelight service at our church and sing carols. Fills me with the spirit every time. As a kid, we spent one Christmas in the Netherlands, and learned about their traditions. Sinterklaas (St Nicholas) arrives by barge in the canals on December 5th and brings children gifts. This tradition long predates Santa Claus. He has helpers called “Black Pete’s”, that are supposedly covered in soot. (I think they may racially controversial today.). They celebrate Christmas for two days on December 25-26. Also, instead of stockings, they would use wooden shoes to be filled with goodies. I’m sure our Dutch friends can provide much more about it. I still have some Black Petes as Christmas ornaments today. Apologies for the long-winded comment.

It’s a bit different from the English lyrics. I’ve heard that the Swedish lyrics are closer to the French original but I don’t know since I don’t speak French. Gorgeous rendition.

Hm, it's just that.... the song is really great, of course, one of the best christmas carols ever made. But whenever reactors say "we know the song by heart" they just don't know... I wish there was subtitles for the song, because the lyrics in swedish is so much deeper, even darker, but that also just makes it brighter if you catch my drift.
Yeah. epic version of the song for sure, of course.

    • @FemaleSniper86

rough translation of the swedish lyrics:
Oh holy night, oh holy moment for the world
When the godlike man to earth came down.
To reconsile the world of crimes and sins,
      for us he suffered death.
And the ray of hope shines through the world
and the light shines over land and sea.
People, fall now down, and greet happily your freedom
Oh holy night, you gave us salvation
Oh holy night, you gave us salvation
Coz the savior crushed our heavy chains
Our earth is free, the Heaven is now open.
In your slave, you see a beloved brother,
and see, your enemy becomes very dear.
From the Heaven, the savior brought us peace.
For us he came down from his peaceful grave.
People, fall now down, and greet happily your freedom.
Oh holy night, he gave us salvation.
Oh holy night, he gave us salvation.

Hi you guys, i am following you now for quite a while, when I was looking after good reactions from Tommy's videos. There are many that are reacting, but with many you can see it's rather fake, people are just jumping on the hype train for reactions. And I find it interesting to see how some people do their reactions. Especially for me, music is all about emotion. All of it. So if people just pretending, i wonder if they really have emotions, because how can you not feel music, but just do it for the clicks.
You guys I really enjoy, because you seem very fine people (plus the Wolfman reminds me of a young George Lucas everytime ;) ), but the way you guys enjoy the music, shows me not only is that true, but I am enjoying it as much because I react to for example Tomnmy's music the same way, every single time. My gf and I were looking forward to see him with Majestica since the pandemic, when we first bought the tickets. But they were hanging in our kitchen now for a long, long time since it was akways delayed here, And now that this year we finally hoped we would see them, the tour got canceled for logistical problems. That broke my heart, musically, but I know its not their fault. The situation post covid with tours and everyone wants to go on tour, not to mention prices for everything are insane up now, its no wonder some cant as they would have liked.
I imagine you have already listend to some of Tommy's work in Majestica, considering how much you like him too. Their last album, the christmas album, for me its even more a classic than all the other christmas stuff out there. Because for me, that album (th-cam.com/video/cGcMAjrwwcs/w-d-xo.html) is pure christmas joy in one album. And I can tell you, I am not the most christmassy kinda guy, although I lovc certain things in that time of year. But this album can do something, what nothing else can do for me before, It can make you be with christmas, on every day, in an instant. Doesnt matter which season, this album for me is perfection of musical joy, and in creating the christmas feeling out of thin air. ;)
I wonder if you could also react to that, they also have some official videos from songs of that album.
But as for Tommy, what can I say, he is just awesome ! Not only is he a pure ray of sympathy, he is one of those very few talented people that can do sooo many things, and he can do them all well. To say the least. And his voice, i dont have to note that i am sure, i know you love it too.
I am with Metal since 1987, and I have heard a lot of music since, considering that except for my gf, music is the constant source of joy in my life. I have a lot with health issues in my life, so sometimes music is the only thing almost that can make one feel better, even if your body thinks otherwise. And while there are plenty of good singers, Tommy is special. His voice, and I am not the religious kinda guy, but if i would use the term "angelic", i think that i would describe his voice. I am sure he was the kid in the church choir in his town, showing them all what a fantastic voice he had. And not that he wasnt alreasy aweseom when with his first band, "Reinxeed", but man did he improve with his voice. Not to mention how high he can go up with his voice, its almost frightening, but in a awesome way if you know what I mean. :)
And I am really glad, you guys enjoy him as much as well from what I can see. I am looking forward to any of your videos, but especially those that are about Tommy in some way. You guys take care, cheers from Germany. ;)
