      What Didinger meant when he said that in the vid was simply that that's how he was perceived. Young and Rice got all the shine. He was overlooked because people seemed to focus more on his personality than his game. He's criminally underrated.

    San Francisco leveraged their future for that Super Bowl in '94. With the new salary cap law they couldn't afford to keep everybody, Ricky was a free agent and SF couldn't pay him. His TD catch in Super Bowl 29 was amazing. Go watch it. He was an incredible athlete and the best pass catching back of the era not named Marshall Faulk. He's a Notre Dame guy, which I hate, but he's HOF caliber.

    • @TheAlfrulz
      @TheAlfrulz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Nicholas Williams - I didn't say he was first or the most influential, but Craig definitely played a key part along the way. I'm sure if you go digging there's probably someone from the leather helmet days that hardly anyone knows that pioneered it.
      But lenny Moore was a great one, reminded me of Marshall Faulk.

    • @douglaspatrick868
      @douglaspatrick868 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would put Roger in first too, him and Marcus Allen are the two most well rounded and undeniably great backs of my lifetime. Ladanian Tomlinson is up there too but I don't remember him being an effective blocker at times in his career, though he got decent enough at it eventually IIRC, and his offensive output was pretty insane.

      TheAlfrulz EXACTLY!! Roger Craig was a powerful running back all of the 80s. He and Joe Montana together dominated decimated Marino and the Dolphins. One of the Dolphin wide receivers even said “It was Roger Craig who killed us that game. We couldn’t stop him.” And just watch his tape against the Rams. He was a beast. He was beast mode before beast mode before beast mode. He definitely deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame.

      @Nicholas Williams lenny more never rushed for 1000 yards and also had 1000 yards receiving in the same season or caught 90 receptions in a season. He beat out jerry rice for receptions 1 year. He was considered the best back in the league from 86-90. There were backs catching the ball out of the backfield before him but they were not doing it on that level. He was really the core of that offense

But, ask yourself, "Do I really love this guy or do I just love how he brings wins and glory to my favorite team?" I'm glad Rickey Waters has no brain damage and does have a great quality of life after football. #TeamWaters

    • @ekscalybur
      @ekscalybur 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deion was good enough to be a HOFer despite the legitimate criticisms against his fundamentals. He's like Randy Moss on defense, just imagine how much more of a legend he would have been if he tried as hard in all aspects of the game. Deion didn't want to tackle, Moss spent entire seasons just half-assing it.
      Ricky thought he was that good that he could get by half-assing it sometimes. He wasn't.

    • @Workingman22
      @Workingman22 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it's a popularity contest via media biases. Anytime I have this debate with friends I always use Terrell Davis example because he only had 2 good years yet backs like Waters who have amazing production/numbers get blacklisted over bias, grudges for ultimately petty reasons like a quote. These writers are smug and shouldn't be the ones voting, should be peers, players, coaches and other HOF players.

    Those 4 words at the end, For who for what, is what keeps Rick Watters out of the hall of fame. He had the stats, has the ring, but those 4 words is what keeps Ricky out. Even the troubled guys like Lawrence Taylor and Michael Irvin got in, but those 4 words in voters minds is extreme selfishness.

    • @michaelsloane1555
      @michaelsloane1555 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Stenerud's % would actually have him out of a job in today's NF:L. Namath's TD to INT ratio was -47 and was negative in 11 out of his 13 seasons. Lynn Swann never had a 1000 yard season and didn't have enough catches in his career to make PFR's career receptions list. To me, Namath is the most underserving Hall of Famer of all. A TD to INT ratio of -47 is terrible. That Namath is in the Hall of Fame and Ken Anderson isn't is a disgrace.

    • @michaelsloane1555
      @michaelsloane1555 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even compared with other QBs of the 1960s and 1970s, Namath doesn't cut it. People like to defend Namath with the "it was a different era" argument, but let's look at some QBs of the 1960s and 1970s using completion %, passer rating, and TD_INT ratio. Bob Griese: 56.2%, 77.1, +20Ken Anderson: 59.3%, 81.9, +37Fran Tarkenton: 57%, 80.4, +76Bart Starr.: 57.4%, 80.5, +14Len Dawson: 57.1%, 82.6, +56Sonny Jurgensen: 57.1%, 82.6, +66Roger Staubach: 57%, 83.4, +44Terry Bradshaw: 51.9%, 70.9, +2Johnny Unitas: 54.6%, 78.2, +37Ken Stabler: 59.8%, 75.3, -28Joe Namath. 50.1%. 65/5, -47So, the results show, that, even when only compared with QBs of the 1960s and 1970s, Namath wasn't an elite QB. I'm more bothered by some of the iffy/undeserving inclusions BECAUSE there are snubs. Jerry Kramer had been an egregious snub before he finally got the call this year. But it still seems as though truly deserving players like Ken Anderson and Ty Law may never get in. If all known "deservings" were in, it would be easier to say "whatever" towards the underservings.

    • @michaelsloane1555
      @michaelsloane1555 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The major difference is that Jim Marshall's wrong way run occurred in a run of the mill regular season game that the Vikings actually won. Roger Craig's fumbles cost the 49ers a 3 peat. The 1990 49ers had an opportunity to 3 peat and Roger Craig is directly responsible for blowing that for them.
