I like the touch that John didn't relax after burying the T-800 in molten metal. He knew it was not dead and started backing away, getting ready to continue fighting it. It shows how he clearly learned from experience.
@@TheSiNnEr734 As a tween he saw a T-800 jump into molten metal and still be able to perform farewell gestures so I'd say he remembered full well it wasn't something to guarantee an instant kill.

TX is incredibly durable, T800 (or 850, whatever) is merely trying to stall TX, allowing the party to escape. 5. I don't know what you mean. @@Waterbug1591 I agree but there right in the first movie he does throw people around to but in the rated r of this movie script the director wanted to have a couple of guys around to have the terminator kill before he gets to John to show how menacing the t600 and t800 were
I love how indestructible, yet physical the T800 was in this movie. Nailed all the points, even that extra spark of murder must that’s very untypical for a machine.
That's what made it so scary in the first movie. The more damaged it became, the more psychopathic it seemed to be. Almost like the thing wasn't just a machine. It was almost like there was something evil there which the red eyes helped with
@@Johnny_Serenity ye it was being logical, due to it being so heavily damaged and now exposed at that time it knew it only had a limited time before it was completely figured out and a lot more than just police showed up to take it down. As such, it was rushing more and more to get the job done and being less careless. It's like impatience, but on the logical side of things.
The problem for me is the earlier part of the fight and chase where the T-800, for nothing more than plot convenience, throws John around instead of crushing his skull or digging his heart out. The rest of the sequence is pretty chilling and well done - it's just the practicality of the fight that annoys me quite a lot. In the 1984 original the T-800 was much more dangerous up close.
@@Ripa-MorameeIn the tech noir shootout, why did it not pick up it's uzi instead of chasing sarah and reese on foot? Why did it feel the need to execute it's victims in the loudest way possible instead of killing them off silently so as not to alert the real sarah (in case the one it killed wasn't the right one)? Why did the t800 not wait for a better opportunity or get into the police station some other way instead of just massacring everyone? Why did it run away after the car crash instead of getting sarah then and there? Why did it feel the need to make one-liners like "wrong" or "i'll be back"? It's pretty obvious that the t800 in the first movie is not that logical, and it seems to almost have an ego, as if it's getting frustrated at failing to kill it's target. We also have to remember that skynet itself does have a personality of some kind, and since the t800 is made to fit in with humanity (atleast somewhat) it makes sense that skynet would either intentionally or unknowingly impart human traits into it's programming.
It's sad to know that after Dark Fate, people admit this is a good Terminator movie. It has its flaws, but keeps the essence of the T-800: menacing and really difficult to destroy.
It's still not a good movie, Dark Fate/Genysis being terrible films doesn't make Salvation a good film. Does it help Salvation's image? Sure, but let's not get carried away. Salvation is still a massively flawed film, just not as flawed as Genysis/Dark Fate
I've never thought Salvation was a bad film. Especially with how demanding the fan base is for another perfect terminator film. Was salvation perfect? Hell no. Was it enjoyable as a terminator film with really good replay value despite it only being PG-13? Without a doubt. Providing the origin story for how John got the scar on his face is peak world building. Such a badass way to get a scar. If Halycon had not become bankrupt and allowed to finish the planned trilogy then I think we would be putting the Terminator franchise up there with Marvel and Star Wars. @@worsethanhitlerpt.2539 That’s cause Terminator fans are one of the most nostalgia-based fandoms out there. I’m not gonna lie, Genesys was mid and Dark Fate was ass, but people hated this one and T3 just for going off the formula a bit. They’re gonna make more terminator movies no matter how much we don’t want them, I blame the fans for being far too blinded by nostalgia to see the good potential of this film when it came out, and bringing us to where we are today
@@neroidius6915 I think the idea of killing off JC is what didn't set well, which even the comic of this goes into. Also the fact it was the throw-i-nator while it still had the flesh covering, like it was a gimmick wrestling match is another complaint But I agree this had more potential even than its predecessor. I just wish it had more plasma and lasers. Maybe a few things that were supposed to be in the script instead of the giant transformer-esque harvesting machine. I'm no puritan for nostalgia, but some criticism is valid. Unfortunately.
@@neroidius6915 T3 brought nothing new to the series and was generally awful. Salvation was maybe the most forgettable one out of all of them. Anything beyond that was actually just embarrassing. If it was about nostalgia everybody would be pissing their pants over the endless Come with me if you want to live/I'll be back/Arnold awkwardly smiling references that get stuffed into every single movie since the second one. We're just sick of it being milked at this point because there hasn't been anything new or interested brought to the table since 1991.
In contrast in Terminator Dark Fate, where Dani is able to take on a Rev 9 in hand to hand combat, this film just shows how powerful the T800 machine is.

Salvation has a lot of potential, it's the only Terminator movie with different plot, all the others are " a terminater is sent back to kill someone and another is also sent back for protection" What I want is a Full on war movie with MAchine
He tried to burn and then freeze the T-800 because he remembered the final showdown from T2 when he was a boy. This movie actually had some pretty good writing and respect to the original movies. Can't say that about the reboots
I love the sound the machines and the terminators in this movie make when they move . It makes it feel so unique compared to the rest of the terminator films and differentiates in the movie from the rest with its own artistic flair.
Molten steel when exposed to cold air (for example being spilled from its container) is significantly less hot than molten steel inside of its container (like we saw in T2). Considering the T-800 in T2 was still functional for some time when it was fully submerged, it could even give that thumbs up, I think T-800 surviving molten metal being spilled over it in this scene is not bad or illogical but completely fair and the molten metal did weaken its endoskeleton enough that Marcus was able to rip T-800's head off.
The fact alone that the setting is for one different and you get to see the future war with skynet puts it higher on the list compared to the new movies.
Wow! They are actually respecting the mythology of the Terminator!! -He was mimicking Kyle Reese just like T-800 did in T1 (Mimicking Sarah's Mom) and T2 (Mimicking John Connor) -John tried to kill the terminator from hot liquid steel (Just like T-1000 died in the Hot liquid Steel) - At 2:52 Terminator was rising in a T-1000 manner. - At 3:14 John cools down the Terminator temporarily (Just like T-1000 got Frozen temporarily) - At 4:30 Terminator stabs John (Terminator likes stabbing people, in T1 he stabs a guy with a punch, in T2 T-1000 stabs multiple people like that foster father, that security guard even T-800 in the final fight) This movie is so Underrated!!
@@deferguard7748 Factually in T2 he got the scars in a different way, as that was the normal timeline where Judgment Day happened on August 29, 1997. In Salvation's universe, judgment day happened later on July 25, 2004.

But the story isn't about John because the story is about Kyle Reese and his crazy survival adventure that created John to fight Skyrim, I mean Skynet. John is the solution to the end, and Kyle Reese is the beginning and the middle.
The cut he gets at 3:20 is brilliant because if you watch the 1st terminator, you’ll see a old John Connor from the future with a scar on his face just like that .well done for that
So what? Do we REALLY need to see how characters got scars? Like, that was the only bad part about "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade." Edit: Lmao @CactusMalone, trying to justify terrible writing/direction 😂
The only positive about Terminator: Dark Fate - people are finally realizing and admitting that for all its' many flaws, Terminator Salvation at least had some original ideas and some real high points. Not a great film. But by far the best T2 follow-up.
HarpoTheVillain Yes, and at least it follows the original story with original characters. Genisys screwed up big time and Dark Fate are just a mess. I feel bad Linda had to be a part of it.
Oh yeah. Salvation made the t800 scary again. It let us see the future, let us see what humanity was dealing with closer to the turning of the tide, when we started making a comeback.
A real T2 sequel would show us the future war. Remember the scenes from the first two movies of the future? That's what the entire third movie should look like. It should show the resistances victory against the machines, the discovery of the time machine, and John Connor sending Kyle Reese and the first reprogrammed terminator back in time to the events of the first two movies, finally bringing the story full circle and giving a proper ending. Salvation at least tried to show the future war with the machines, which is a lot better than whatever Genisys tried to do and definitely better than just killing John and negating the entire thing the way they did in dark fate
As much as I love this movie, one thing that gets overlooked is the sound design. This film nailed it. The robotic sounds are terrifying, the hits deep and impactful. Score could have been better but for some reason studios no longer have the balls to go with the experimental soundscape industrial style of T1 and T2.
I could not disagree more, this is one of the main issues with the movies after the first two, it's the sound design. The sound design in the first two is just so distinctive and enhances the films atmosphere so fantastically well. The later films have a generic Hollywood score, sounds like every other action film. This film is no different. Why would the film director be content with this? it's like they never understood why the first two were so amazing.
@@TheLunarnotes While I thank you for the comment, you may probably want to re-read my comment as I go to special lengths to separate the score from the sound design which are two entirely different things, I even call the musical score of the later films "generic" and am only talking of the sound design, not the music. I am a sound engineer and musician so it comes with the territory and as such I am well aware of the history and difference of the musical score of the first two movies being primarily synth driven atmospheric sounds rather than classical orchestral pieces, but for whatever reason they stopped doing that post T2 and to my mind this was a dumb decisions by studios that actually cost them more money to implement a more classical orchestral sound track. And the problem with that for any movie now is you have Hanz Zimmer in the world and if he is not working on your movie then chances are your orchestral pieces will = shit by comparison of whatever he would have done. As for why be content with this if you made such a movie?... I don't think they get much choice. The corporations make most of the key decisions and they are informed on how to make them by marketing departments. "If you are in marketing. kill yourself" - Bill Hicks, 1991.
@@Nine-Signs Honestly I think the score is really good, with my only problem is that musical continuity isn't really maintained that well here as only the five notes that's in every Terminator film (in T3, it's only in the end credits) return. Personally, I like orchestral music more but if this was the more synth type score, I think it would have been really good, but the way the war looks here, I think the score being orchestral works more, but that's just me.
@@SpideyFan2002Honestly, I feel the biggest reason this film left such a bad taste in people's mouths by the end is because the end credits music is not the classic theme but a repeat of the intro theme. It indeed does make it feel less satisfying and gives the feeling that you just watched a B movie without even realizing why. Some of the acting needed to be better and some plot points could have been a bit better or more thought out, however overall it was a solid movie that was rough around the edges.
@@jeezed2950 The part of the classic theme that the film does maintain appears right after the "There is no fate but what we make" scene. Does that count as the end credits or was it something different?
*Salvation:* Marcus and John Connor struggle to defeat a somewhat indestructible Terminator *Dark Fate:* A skinny 5 ft 1 Mexican girl tackles a Terminator to the ground Edit: I realise the Rev-9 was weakened at the end of Dark Fate, but for a machine whose only job is to kill you at all costs, even if it was at only 1% health, getting within proximity to it, let alone tackling it, wouldn’t be the smartest strategy. Even the T-800 at end of T1, after getting blown apart and it crawling around on the ground, was still scary AF and Sarah Connor was intuitive enough to get away from it rather than wrestling it or trying to put it in a chokehold
I don't remember the mexican girl tackling any terminators to the ground in Dark Fate. She hardly did any fighting at all, and the woman who did was more machine than woman, just like Marcus here. Stop being such fucking incels already.

I remember, even before entering the theater opening weekend, I already loved the vibe and story with this, especially when they added an Alice in Chains song
It's like with the Star Wars prequels. It took some really shitty sequels in Genisys and Dark Fate to make people realize the effort put forth in Salvation was at least somewhat respectable, if incredibly flawed. Just like Disney made the SW prequels look better after the sequel trilogy completely blew as a story.
It’s such a shame this movie didn’t get as much love as it should have. I think it will be looked back upon as one of the better sequels since T2. - it was different from the usual travel back in time to kill someone. - you got to see the war of the future and what a wasteland it is. You survive nuclear fire only to be faced with being shepherded to death camps & exterminated by cyborg Nazis. That’s a terrifying proposition. - Kyle Reese as a boy with John knowing that it is his father. A father that he would fatefully send to his death or it will mean his own death if he doesn’t send him. A sequel could have established that he essentially becomes the father figure to his own son! Which would create really intriguing relationship & drama dynamics. - the idea of a terminator with an actual human mind and heart is an interesting concept. - the T800 is once again terrifying and near unstoppable with conventional weapons. - John knows the certain details of the future, but he cannot understand and foresee how they fit into his present or future and neither is the future set, which makes the ‘predicted’ become unpredictable. I really wished they had a sequel to Salvation rather than the T2 plot rehashed 3 times now - T3, Genisys & Dark Fate.
@Masster Gunnz Indeed it's all relative. Now that we have tasted the later Terminator films, it does seem a lot better than it did at the time. Kinda like the Star Wars prequels and Moffat's Doctor Who.
I guessed many people didn't like film because Arnold is not in it, Christian Bale is miscast as John Connor, no liquid metal Terminator, and and no time travel plot involved.

There's lots of tiny details. Like when Marcus hits the T800 with it uses the same sound effects from the original movie. This part were john hits it with molten metal and liquid nitrogen are also defences to T2
I don't understand why people hated this movie. They should have carried on after this movie and have us a God damn future war. But no they had to make a shity prequel
The t800 in this looked unbelievable compared to the one in genisys. Why couldn't they used this model for the other films. The noise of the terminators too really added to the effect. This film really showed how tough the t800's really are.
when the shots is viewed through the eyes of the T 800 you can see all those white dots scattered around the environment, those dots are the same common techniques visual effect artist use to track a 3 dimensional space in a 2 dimensional image, it makes sense for a robot needing it to have a better environmental awareness. cool detail.

This film deserves a lot more credit than it gets. Love seeing the post Judgement Day world and the ware against the Terminators like this. The Marcus character was fascinating as unlike any other Terminator he was a true cyborg with both biological and machine components. The T-800 basically an android or robot.
I concur. Salvation is my favourite movie cause we get to see the actual resistance and not just Sarah and John or Kate and John being protected by Arnold from a better killing machine. That's exactly why I won't watch Dark Fate. Just the same crap from T-1 to T-3 all over again. I wish we could have seen Connor's story continue.😭😭
I love how, at the beginning, the soundtrack (Final Confrontation) sounds oddly familiar to the original Terminator movie but very orchestrail and unique in its own way. This movie deserves more love.

3:15 so that's how John got his scars , I remember seeing the adult John in the opening of T2 and seeing his scars I always wondered what happened I never realized u til now that's how he got his scars
This movie at least keeps with the relentlessness of the T-800. In T1, it was still trying to finish it's assignment, even as it was being crushed by a Hydraulic Press. In T2, it was still trying to protect John, even after having an arm destroyed along with many other structural compromises, to the point where it was literally dragging itself across the ground to continue against a much stronger opponent. In T3, it continues after the T-X after being mostly destroyed. And in this one, even as it's slowly being encased in molten metal, it's trying to push through. That relentlessness is what makes the T-800 so scary as a movie monster, but also so respectable as a Hero.
Salvation was one of the best movie in the franchise post Terminator 2. The only thing it suffered was a clunky dual-narrative. That said, Bale and Worthington carried the movie.
I love how obvious the difference is between Marcus and the T-800. And I don’t mean superficial differences like one has skin and the other doesn’t, or physical differences like one’s a robot and the other’s a cyborg. I mean the difference in how they fight and advantages one has over the other. Marcus is just as strong as the T-800, but the T-800 has an advantage over Marcus. The T-800 is a machine, plain and simple. It doesn’t feel pain and it doesn’t get distracted by the damage it’s taking. Marcus on the other hand is arguably still human. He feels pain, his mind gets easily distracted by said pain. The T-800 was being pounded by Marcus, but as it isn’t distracted by such things, it was able to strategize and stop Marcus from hitting it. After which Marcus suddenly got fearful and didn’t start hitting it with his other hand right away like the T-800 no doubt would have if their roles were reversed. Marcus has all the strengths of his opponent, but his weakness in this case is his human factor.
@@craignicholls167 more like marcus body has more weaknesses and is less durable then the T-800. There is a pressure point there and it seems like the T-800 used that to its advantage.

I like the touch that John didn't relax after burying the T-800 in molten metal. He knew it was not dead and started backing away, getting ready to continue fighting it. It shows how he clearly learned from experience.

@@aaronkenyon7112 The T-800 in the first time was already severely damaged by the third act which is why it’s acting more ravenous

Honestly I think the score is really good, with my only problem is that musical continuity isn't really maintained that well here as only the five notes that's in every Terminator film (in T3, it's only in the end credits) return. @@SpideyFan2002Honestly, I feel the biggest reason this film left such a bad taste in people's mouths by the end is because the end credits music is not the classic theme but a repeat of the intro theme. Last Terminator movie to feature the classic endo design.
Cullys Charle I noticed that too.
Of at least a good design of it, unlike Genisys
that's why I like this movie they kept the same design.
Actually they didn't, this model of a T800 is similar to original but although it isn't the same, the original models of T1 & T2 had a smaler chest and and a bit smaller endosceleton in general, this one too wide
Внук Чужого This model is actually called the “T-RIP” which was technically just a T-800 prototype but their appearances are really similar.
Back when the Terminator was still terrifying.. :c
yes, the tx was terrifying and here the most ashy terminators like hydrobots were ruthless. In the last 2 pairsen stormtrooper from star wars, nothing intimidating.

Just a movie thats all
This one is ok, but worse than 1 and 2. The T800 had many chances to kill John and after final hit by giant metal thing John would momentally die.
I always like Salvation and even Terminator 3!! Those were the last good Terminator movies to me
I love this movie
T800 coming out of lava and be frozen, like the reverse of T1000 in the climax of T2.

@@shadowbluezeroex If I am not wrong, the T800 of the first movie kept going even after the dynamite and the second movie it was already heavily damaged. Here, they are fighting a freshly built version and without suitable weapons, so I'd say this scene makes sense.
It’s amazing how even though the terminator design was made in 1984 it looks modern in this film, it’s timeless!
I've always liked Salvation. It's understandable the amount of emotional investment put into the franchise, watching a Terminator movie for the first time without Arnold must have done some people's heads in. Well. Most. Only years later do they realize that it is actually a great movie.
I get pretty emotionally invested even in movies that arent that good, but Salvation made me feel nothing except HOLLOW DISAPOINTMENT.
I actually liked this film.

Didn't help that the SPFX are horrible too. In both movie the flesh is burned off the Terminator; here it looks so real and scary as hell, but in Genysis it's so fake looking. The Terminator looks like perfectly polished chrome which wouldn't be the case.

Dark Fate makes this look like a masterpiece(not that i think this one is bad,I would say it's ok)
IKR?
Marcus: *Starts smacking T-RIP with a metal rod*
T-RIP: *grabs his wrist* “Imma need you to stop.”

Unfortunately, the fans were too dumb to appreciate the film. Instead, they spat poison and made claims to the film in varying degrees of stupidity.
I wish McG could find investors to fund the next sequel but it appears this movie lack of appreciation despite the plot was too decent.

I don't care what critics say it was a good post-apocalyptic terminator movie.
Nicoledreamcr yeah I agree , no where near as bad as many said it was .
It just wasn't typical T movie where the unstoppable bad guy is chasing the good guys for the most of the film.
@@nicoledreamcr4666 That what you think the Terminator franchise is about? Funny I always thought it was about John Connor becoming the leader of the Human Resistance and leading the human race to victory over skynet and the machines. This movie was, and is, great.

Not equal I strength t800 grabbed Marcus arm and he couldn't overpower the t800 with both arms plus it was the upgraded model which is built stronger
