I def believe some snakes enjoy our company. I put my calico lesser male on my bed and he will kinda look around a bit but then he comes over to me in my chair near my bed an climbs right on me an hangs out.. funny tho, that same snake even tho he's my friendliest he is also one of my most aggressive feeders, he tagged my wife the other day but afterward it actually seemed like he felt bad cause he wrapped around her hand an was rubbing his head all over her as if to say sorry mom!

I was looking for a video like this because I think most of the information out there does say that you shouldn’t handle your snake that much or that often. But I got my ball python almost three months ago, and after gently gaining her trust, you can just tell she loves being held and she’s extremely comfortable. I think it’s just a general guideline and they are in fact individuals 😊

Ill second this one, i have a Burmese python, held him since i first got him at 2 months, hes never bit me, hissed once while i was trying to readjust him during his shed because he made a huge mess with his water, now i can feed him from my fingers while hes on me thanks to some early target training, even though i have his enclosure set up properly he tends to always want out unless hes in shed, will curl up near me or my wife regardless of temperature just to sleep near us, on our desk, on us, even now hes curled against my leg in my chair sleeping against me, hes only a year and 3 months old now, but hes the sweetest little bastard i have ever gotten close to, great feeding response too.

This is a really great video for us pet owners. I agree with everything you said. Getting your snake to trust you is the key. I have only had my male for 4 months, so he is now 5 months and he is as chill as Bobby. He didn't come that way, but I was aware he would be feisty, and being my first snake I would say Very Feisty. I spent a lot of time and didn't do everything that is suggested. His favorite game is me cupping my hand - he stretches his head into it and then I close my hand. I will keep raising it higher until he can't go any higher. So can you bond with your snake - Yes...just like you and Bobby. (Now if he would only eat FT...lol)

I Can Not Agree More! Everything you said is 100% on. With all my snakes, when i got them i left them be for 3days or so. An then started handling them. Like every day. (Except after feeding, they get 2 days off) an i handle each one the same. 30-60mins. Sometimes more. An my most aggressive bp would strike at everything. Not 1 1/2 weeks later after handling everyday. Won't strike at me. But eats Phenomenal!. I firmly believe what you put in, you'll get out. Just make sure fear of getting bit, or being nervous doesn't get in the way of handling cause they definitely can sense your feelings. Awesome Video Chris! Fantastic explanations!

When it a cold/moderate temperature outside I will go on a walk with my snake every 2-4 days. (If in the cold a bring a jacket with big sleeves and let the snake hold onto my arm in the jacket)(not when it is hot because I live in a very hot area where it easy gets to 100 degrees in direct sunlight)

This is different from all the other things I've read & watched. This has resulted in me only holding my new 8 mos old BP for 15 min (he hasn't come out of his ball while I hold yet), then I put him back in enclosure where he eventually comes out of his ball & heads back to his warm side hide while I sit at his enclosure. I like the idea to hang out till it unballs himself, then start timing. I will try this. Thanks. Tomorrow is feeding day so can't hold for a few days after that.

Both of my BPs are fine with handling. Only 2 reasons I would not handle and that's waiting 2 days after a meal and very minimal during shed. Main reason I love snakes is that they are fine when you don't want to handle them.
Being aware of their body language will generally always prevent an accidental bite.
I'm really weird I don't like and have not let anyone hold them yet...... but actually nobody has WANTED to hold them LOL👍

Love Bobby! My Reggie is also a Bamboo and has a very healthy appetite. He's only about 4-5 mos old, about 170 grams. He's my 1st and only snake, and I've helicopter-momed him a lot, haha. I take him out briefly most everyday and he's become less shy and actually seems curious and friendly. Chris,
    Great video!
Over the past 10 years my snakes have been handled by over 50,000 people. Not once have I ever noticed them acting like they were stressed. In fact the opposite has been my observation. The more my animals have been handled the more they seem to enjoy being handled.
As a falconer I know the only way to bring calmness to a wild bird of prey is to smother it with your time, voice and touch, we call it "Manning". It's important the bird eat within 24 hours after it's caught. If you are not able to calm the bird and have it eating from your fist within the first 24 hours the recommendation is to let the bird go.
Could barometric pressure have anything to do with the animals knowing how to sense the changing of the seasons?
I'm loving all of your videos Chris.
    Brian

I have a new ball that I'm trying to move from pre-killed to F/T. He's been here 12 days. No handling so far. Great enclosure set-up. Was very careful with getting that right. He uses his hides. He sits outside of them a bit at night and will even sleep in the open. He seems comfortable enough. He did refuse his first rat, however, but that transition from pre-killed to F/T is the likely culprit on that. Everyone says, "Don't handle until they eat." What do you say?

My first BP "Monty" was pretty cool. Reptiles mostly seem fairly cold hearted. However Monty changed my mind. If i was to walk into the room after a long day he would come out of his hide and start running the edge of the enclosure closest to me. I'd open the trap lid stick my arm in he would run up and wrap my forearm so he could be taken out. .. This was an actual daily routine, not just a few times here and there. I'd have to agree with you Chris, everything you said seems to be true. Judging by my snakes, I notice they defiantly have their own personalities. I have a few that kinda flinch when first picking them up and might be head sensitive... not that they don't like being handled but compared to some of my others they're just not the same. then I have some that seem like they are actually looking to get handled. my big super pastel lesser male is in a big clear enclosure and I swear everytime I walk into the snake room he'll be in his cave and when he sees me he pops his head out and is very curious. He loves being out and chillin. some like to be rubbed and just chill out, some that will just lay their head on me or on my hands and some even seem ticklish. they defiantly have their own personality. I think because unlike dogs or cats they don't express themselves the same and reading them is way different.

@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures ridiculous to give them away like that unless its to a friend or something . It costs more in time and feed then $25 . It takes more time feed and efforts to raise animals people should have some respect for that . I do swap with friends but that is different i know i will get something back eventually. I have a 5 year old Colombia red tail boa, shes sweet, but as me being her owner bc I have never had a big snake before. Everyone in the house is brave enough to chill with her and I feel bad v.v I want to bond with her so bad. Shes new and I'm figuring her out. I feel like crying :( I have been crying on the inside and outside. I feel really guilty v.v. I love her but I'm nervous? Idk what to do :(
