You are a blessing to all who want to learn - you have saved me a lot of time and energy fumbling around trying to figure out how to use this wonderful plugin.
Fantastic! Thanks for cutting thru all the technical, making it relatively easy to route & visually compare multiple tracks. Just what the Mix Doctor ordered!
On their website it shows 4 different sources being viewed simultaneously but I can't see anything in the manual about how to do this, nor how to get the track labels listed in the top right as also appears in the picture on their website. Does anyone know how to do this? EDIT : NVM : It's in the import/export settings. You need an instance of SPAN on each channel you want to see
Why is it that I cannot get those numbers along the right side Y-Axis (before the decibel meter shown furtherest right)? Why don't the decibels numbers on the peak numbers along the right side Y-Axis match the decibel meter shown furthest right? The frustration is that I cannot gauge how much I want to boost or cut gains because basically the number sequences along that axis I don't get.
@@chiphopper thx 4 this helpful comment nice video tutorial but without your comment - would be nothing - it also didn't work with the AU Version of the plugin only the VST/VST2 version
sadly, im stuck on the routing. i can't choose a span channel with the same same as the group 3/4 because it isn't there. i can only route to the group.
SAME PROBLEM!!!! I am totally at a loss. I have spent hours trying to find some help with how the routing works on SPAN and there is little help. This is the very best I have found (incidentally THANK YOU VERY MUCH Alan!) But I do hope you can still help a little more. I do not see the option to route the 3 and 4 channels to the group and get the option for a 3 and 4 route into SPAN. So I am very stuck.
@@LiveMixRU i actually figured all this out recently. :) it has to do with the input/output options in SPAN now. contact me. i am very willing to help out. :) joonielipton@gmail FB - Joonie Lipton
Hi Alan, thanks for this very informative and useful video! I have a question though; why do you have to pan them hard left and right on those analysis channels? aren't the original outputs Stereo outs?
I was also confused by this. Hopefully he or someone else can provide some clarification because I'm really struggling to understand how to configure the routing for this plugin.
@@davix7spfc Create a mix bus in FL mixer. Toss span into the channel. Open span click the cogwheel select the plug and cogwheel and go to processing and set up your inputs.
I'm using the VST version of the free plugin on mac through Ableton but I don't have the group buttons at the bottom. To be honest I only want to compare 2 sources, and I have them routed in left and right but still can't figure out how to display the two as separate graphs...
I am trying to understand your routing so I can apply this to Cubase pro but I can only route the individual tracks to a group channel with a L and R. How do I get the 3/4 option?
Great vid...excellent detailed instructions. Would you have, or point me to, similar detailed instructions for multi-channel routing from ProTools into SPAN?

Currently studying frequency masking and this just helped me out alot. Thanks
Glad it helped!

Thanks. That cleared up a couple things for me. Span is amazing.
Excellent. Easiest video explaining Span routing. Thanks.
Thanks
very precise and clear information. thanks
Thank you Alan, found this to be very useful and helpful. I appreciate it
Thanks Alan, top notch video
Great lesson Alan. Thanks!
Well done. Subscribed.
Excellent!
This video should have been started with "Must Use VST 2 for this to work". Note: WIll not work with VST 3 or AU
Thank you!!!! I was trying that for days!
Thanks man!

THANXXXXX wonderful video but I was going crazy trying to figure out why id didn't work!!!!!
how is it done in Pro Tools?
Fantastic tutorial. Thanx !!! :)
AWESOME! Thanx a bunch ola 😎
Hi there, Alan! Awesome tip, but any idea how to organise this in Cubase?

Is it the free Span or the Span plus with multi-track spectrum ?
Maybe Voxengo could add a transparency function so you could simply put two instances on top of each other.

How are you able to switch between the groups. I am only able to use 2 inputs
I figured out the issue. It was a problem with the VST3 version of the plugin. VST2 version can expose 8 INs properly. Give it a try.

Clever technique. I wanna try this in FL studio
SwiftDreamer i was thinking same thing does it work?
@@modmon216 Itll work with any daw :)
I''m having problems on trying this technique in FL, could you help me?
It is easier and makes more sense in fl then in ableton since you dont need "ghost" channels on FL to rout spam properlly.

Asked :) Where do you get 8 inputs in the free version? ;)
You cannot do it on free version. ;)
It depends on your #host; if in Ableton you should still have 8 inputs. This might differ in other DAWs, though.
try to use vst 2 istead of vst 3. t

How comes I only have 2 input in voxengo span PLUS ?
Thank You very much :)
very useful,thank you
can you do this tutorial in Logic s well

Can adsr make more fl courses
Why do you only analyze a mono channel for each source?
If you're a Mac user make sure ot download the VST version of this and not the AU version
hi mate, nice tutorial thanks, would this work in logic x? thanks.
Yes. Ur welcome
Great
Why not just use SPAN as an insert?
Because it would use Sooo much cpu.
My UI says "Integr" instead of RMS. What does this mean?
LUFS-Integrated, as opposed to RMS, as the measure of loudness.
Did you mean Span Plus?
great tutorial but I mean couldnt you find a decent tune to do this analysis? this is super Nintendo music
Maybe it’s because I’m a Logic user, but this makes absolutely no sense to me. I’ll just stick to using Pro Q 3 I guess.
