I've have the exact same tool which worked well for floorboard but the chipboard flooring in my master installed in the 80s has ring shank nails, I found that most of them would just round off the head as considerably more force is needed to pull them out :(
Hi thanks for your message! Yes I have had the same issue before, if that is the case then I would use a hole saw to go round the nail that the head had came off and then once the board is up, remove the broken nail with a crowbar or mole grips and plug the hole made by the hole saw back up.
