I wish you would do a video on a finished Montana Rancher. With kitchen, furniture and so on. I feel like this is the perfect size cabin, and to see it complete would be awesome! BTW, great work like always!
Love these tours. You all do such beautiful work and your homes are just gorgeous. Been watching since your site when up long ago and never fails to entertain and see beautiful craftsmanship..
Elvie, this may only be a few feet wider and longer ,but I believe you have a new popular model. My wife and I will be at auction this year and hope to meet you, outstanding craftsmanship as always.
Thank you Elvie it's a well put together Home the workmanship is second to none I agree about the concrete basement /crawl space the house isn't going to move and the Home looks great from the outside thanks again Mate God Bless and love to the family 💚✌👍
I can only imagine the amount of time and work it takes to construct one of these beauty's. Absolutely gorgeous! The craftsmanship is spectacular. I love the color and detail to this log home. I can see one of these sitting on my property in Northern Wisconsin one of these days. Thanks for the informative video!
We are looking around Flathead Lake, Kalispell, Polson , St. Regis or outside of Missoula to buy land and build our retirement home for the spring, summer and fall. We’ll be living in our condo in the Virgin Islands during the winter months, as we are tired of plowing our private road and using our snow blower.
Denise, we are getting ready to build a Trout Creek Log Home for your neighbor next door! Here is a video of your home: th-cam.com/video/4MTE6RJ-V6I/w-d-xo.html
Can smell the wood and it is wonderful to smell!!! They did a wonderful job there !!! Now to wait for other things to be done in there !!! Plus the staining and varnishing !!! It will blow a person's mind out then !!!
U GUYS DO FANTASTIC WORK ‼️‼️ I WOULD MUCH RATHER PAY U GUYS TO TRAVEL AND PUT IT TOGETHER. I BELIEVE YOU WOULD DO A MUCH BETTER JOB THAN ANY OTHER COMPANY. YOU DESIGNED, BUILT IT & TOOK IT APART. YEP, YOU GUYS DO FANTASTIC WORK ‼️‼️🔨🔨 Vinny 🇺🇸
For me at my age, snow is something to visit, not somethiing to live with, but if I was in a bilzzard-prone area, I'd want to know my roof could take it. That sure looks strong.
Ellie, your company does amazing homes and your narrative is very informative. One question I have is on the porch build. At the 3 minute mark where you are looking under the porch you are explaining that the rim is doubled up for strength. From the camera angle it looks like only one of the rim boards is catching the front of the porch piers. Wouldn’t you want both to carry the load of the porch? Just seems like there is plenty of post that isn’t being used.
From what I can observe it appears as if the concrete piers were installed a bit too far toward the house, and we had no choice but to crowd it. However, the one rim sitting on the post should be adequate.
@@AmishMeadowsOfficial that’s great !! Will be contacting Amish soon for some ideas and final layout plans …. We have 15 acre parcel with 360 views that requires large windows to really appreciate
Shouldn’t under the subfloor be insulated? We finished building a 2 story stick built house in 2019. Because we built into the side of our mountain, we had to put in a concrete slab inside our concrete footings. It’s not required in the state of Washington (where we built) to insulate between the first and second floor, but we did anyway. We also had all of our interior walls insulated. Our winter daytime temperatures are around 15-25 degrees Fahrenheit. We get 5-7 feet of snow every winter. So since we’ll be building our retirement home in Montana (single story), shouldn’t we insulate under the subfloor for added protection from the cold weather?
@@AmishMeadowsOfficial Thanks, I appreciate your knowledge. Once we find the land we’re looking for in Montana , we’d like to have Meadowlark build the “Trout” for us as our retirement home. We just want a single story 2 bedroom 2 bath home with an office or if the spare bedroom is big enough for a small antique desk then that would be fine. We love the wrap around covered porch. I’m sure we can store a lot of dry wood for the wood stove either on part of the deck or build a covered shed right next to the house.
We’ve heard that every 2-3 years we’ll have to sand blast the exterior walls of our log cabin to maintain it correctly so it doesn’t rot. Is this true? How would we go about maintaining the exterior of our log home? Our current house has Hardi-Board shiplap siding (it’s made from wood fiber and concrete), it has a 50 warranty, doesn’t rot or burn. I don’t have to do anything with our exterior of our house. How often will we have to maintain our log house?
We stained our Amish log store in 1995 and have not re-coded it yet. Obviously it’s time to do that. There are several products we could use for the exterior stain but depending how it is done 10 to 15 years between coats is normal and expected but you don’t have to sandblast and worry about rot, etc. that sounds like folks who use the wrong company or product on the exterior and had bad experiences and sometimes it’s due to bad design of the house where water splashes on the logs etc. Log Homes can last for generations.
Beautiful cabin, I entered the website of the model of this Montana cabin, and I have a suggestion, that is, if it were in your place, what would it change, what caught my eye in the interior, there is that upper space, above the stove, the access to that space is via a staircase, which in my opinion is more than rudimentary, that staircase does not fit into the image, it spoils the whole look, instead, make a spiral staircase in its place
I am unsure of what you’re talking about because the Montana rancher pictured in the video does not have any loft or stairway. Maybe you had a different model in mind?
The presentation of the cabin is not from this video on TH-cam, but on the website of the meadowlarkloghomes company in the interior model of the Montana cabin, so in photos 9 and 10 of the interior, a staircase appears, I am talking about that staircase
The “log homes are more expensive” is a myth. Stick houses with sheeting and insulation etc is comparable in price. Foundations, roofs, windows, kitchens, bathrooms etc are all the same. The log walls etc are really no more than stick framing.
There are options that affect the price, but you can get basic log package prices by following the Meadowlark website link to the Montana Rancher floor plan and you can also call the Meadowlark office for more pricing details.
ah perfect. This is my type of house... If only I could afford something like this... lol chanign my comment: 105K is not that much :) Do you send things like this to Poland?
I’m not sure who you are asking the question to, but we have built a lot of Montana Ranchers just like this one, with it being among our top sellers. So far, most of the Montana ranchers have been built in Montana, but we have built them in other states as well.
@ howdy, live in Kalispell was wondering how hard it was to build yourself, that’s what I meant to ask anyone…if anyone built one their self from your kit
You have a great looking home, but I think you explain way more than needed. People want to see the home, not hear every little detail about how you build them or what is required. Seems to me this video should only be 10-15 minutes at most .
@@AmishMeadowsOfficial Yes unfortunately everything is expensive due to global inflationary period we are in. When the bubble burst that’s when I’ll buy.
The logs vary in diameter because they are all natural hand peeled. They are a bit smaller at the top of the wall and larger on the wall bottom, and the beams are larger.
Wow, very unattractive exterior with several glaring areas of poor workmanship. Awful windows that belong on an outhouse not a home, and roof pitches that will not work well in snow country! Maybe it should be renamed the South Central Rancher?
Having that big porch and overhang on that South facing side is definitely a solar passive outcome. Perfect.

wheres the fireplace and wood stove vent?
The fireplace and wood stove had not been installed when this video was taken.
He could also put in a step or 2 all the way around and avoid the railing
I want you to build me one of these in forest Virginia next year🤠

Yes, Meadowlark can custom design your log home and taller windows are possible as long as you design the walls high enough.

In a crawlspace it would be a mistake to insulate the subfloor. Rather, you insulate the foundation stem walls.

Gorgeous property and view...where is this..Colorado, Montana or Wyoming?
Montana
Just added your cabin to my home design so I can find land and then build it
How do you support the logs walls running parallel to the floor joists?
There has to be a footing underneath it with a frame wall built up to carry the log wall
Do they give you a ballpark estimate of totol price

I’ve heard that someone makes a flexible material that lasts for 30 years for “chinking” the log cabins. Is that true?
Yes, it is true. We carry that product in stock. It’s called Conceal and that’s what we use to chink all of the log homes.
It will last for more than 30 years. This product will last for generations and keep the home securely sealed.

Unless you do most of the work yourself these are expensive to setup and finish out.
