I bought these from rockauto. Do yourself a huge favor and test fit the two shafts together on the bench. My bolt would not go thru the notch where they join together. This cost me a lot of time trying to wrestle them together in the vehicle. I wound up having to take them back out and file the notch out more to get the bolt to fit.

Do you know what brand you bought?? I'm pretty sure this was crown automotive parts I used. I'm sorry that you had a ruff fit but thanks for sharing so others will know in the future.

@@ChrisLawley43 I do not know what brand rhet were. They looked exactly like the original.you would think if something would not fit it would have been on the steering box or steering wheel, not where the two part fit together. 30 minutes with a rat tail file and they fit like a glove.

Glad you got it to work, I'm starting to learn the older the jeep gets the parts can't be bought new on some things and some of it is remanufactured. I have a power steering pump I need to change and probably will make a little video on it soon. This will be the third pump from original and the second one I put on not that long ago but it's failed, leaking and not pumping like it should to the gear box. I think I might be able to buy a brand new Mopar pump from rock auto but really don't want to spend over 300 fr the dam thing but I may have to if this one doesn't work.

I’ve got some good clunking noises on the steering wheel. Going to try to clean and lube that bearing. Any pointers? Can’t seem to find a “how-to” online. Thanks for the video!

You know you could have issues with the tie rods as well. its best to have someone in the vehicle when you are under it checking for movement in the tie rods. If all that is okay I would remove the steering shaft and feel all the u joints and see how they move, if they move at all. Put it in a vice and feel again for if they are hard to move or if they have play. Depending how old the jeep is that bearing most likely is rusted as well. Changing this steering shaft was really a waste of money because ALL of the suspension needed replacing, as it wear's and sags it changes the geometry of the steering. If the shaft is okay then start looking at suspension parts for your clunk. I'm about to take mine back out because I feel there is excessive play in the steering or its do to I don't drive it a lot. I'm about to upload a lot of footage of all I have done on this jeep like suspension and tie rods. I can't say when I will do the steering shaft as I'm in the process of rebuilding the dana 44 axle I bought for it and a big list of other things.

@@ChrisLawley43 thanks for the tip! I popped off the lower shaft to get to that bearing. It was bone dry and had some surface corrosion. I cleaned it and packed it with wheel bearing grease a couple hours ago and so far that clunk-feel has almost vanished completely. I’d say 90-95% healed. Prob would be 100% if I had a new bearing, but they’re apparently impossible to get.

My steering bearing has a good amount of play in it and the steering has slop, so I'm headed down your road now with the new steering column. Big difference after install?

I only notice a little bit of play in steering shaft when I put it on a bench vice to see how much play it had in the u-joints, the steering shaft bearing though was freaking SHOT...when I did this I rebuilt steering gear box along with tie rod ends and upper and lower ball joints, doing all this restored the tight factory steering feel again. I need to replace the suspension it's really wore out and i'm sure that will effect the steering and handling of the jeep as well.
I've had so much going on lately with no time to change the suspension and debating i may just replace with stock suspension, not sure yet.

Do the shafts or shaft telescope to allow removal and install?

Yes the short upper/intermediate shaft telescope so you can remove the lower shaft if need be.
