- British tanks in War Thunder often get the short end of the stick, and nowhere is this more evident than with the Conway tank destroyer. It has the same sad cannon as the Conqueror heavy tank, but without any of the redeeming qualities.

Attempt 8 at asking Spookston to play any latewar German tank but without Parts, FPE, limited ammo and limited fuel (amount determined by a timer), and the lowest level crew you have to simulate the latewar german experience.

There is nothing unholy about a late war stallinium armoured tank, with decent mobility a hunter killer system and a teamaker.
It is once again the time to ask for the Finnish Charioteer, because if the Conway is a Centurion with the Conqueror's gun, the Charioteer is a Comet with the Centurion's gun, it's a perfect segue, and i specify the Finnish one because we can't let the brits have that joy.
Its actually a cromwell hull, so even less armor, but a smaller hull

i think the reason Spookston has issues with APDS is cause he is good at targeting areas with the least armour, it seems like when you hit thinly armoured areas there is very little spalling but when there is enough armour in the way there will be allot of spalling.
yeah with this thing you always wanna aim UFP for maximum shrapnel across the length of the tank, theres basically nothing it cant pen. aiming for the turret should be a second option

Its not just that, he also isn't aiming for those weakspots in line with *crew*, he aims like he's always firing APHE and even when he has APHE, he's just a bad shot half the time anyway. He rushes shots and is sloppy because of it. Not to mention he does the "Meta" thing of only taking 5 rounds of one ammo type, not realizing that guns like Conqueror and Conway's, you really *need* to bring a mix of ammo, since that APDS is near useless against many SPGs.

Some tips for apds from a sweden player: take time to aim, rushed shots will not do much damage. Aim for the thickest armour on the enemy, sounds counterintuitive but the more armour you go through the more damage you do. Go for disabling shots, you probably won’t one shot anyway so better to ensure that they can’t fire back.
Apds is actually one of my favourite ammo types because of its quirks and can be really effective if you master them

@@joshuamueller3206 To be fair, most of the time APDS "negate" weakspot anyway. Example on T26E5 you have to aim for machine gun port with APHE but with APDS you could do centre mass

The shattering mechanic is quite funny since if gaijin is going to model APDS, APCR and HVAPS shattering they should also model the chance failure and chance premature detonation upon impact for APHE rounds which was a thing.
APHE was also notably notorious for shattering. So in theory if we're modeling shell failures APHE should have the ability to shatter, fuse early, and not fuse at all.
Remember what happened last time gaining suggested changes to APHE? The entire community rioted for some reason.

@ Yeah i Remember Going to bovington and asking them about HE filler in tank AP shells and whilst gaijin says ''the British didn't use it because it was expensive'' it was more because they were shit, they actually removed the HE filling from US supplied shells which you can see in game with the M61 shot fired from the british 75mm being just solid shot.

Your editor is really stepping up their game with the background music fading in and out at various points in the more recent videos. Very nice.
My experince with it is that a surprising amount of times, the armour overlap on the turret has saved me with non-pens
Can we talk about the fact that 6.4 kg block of steel flying at mach 4.4 isn't able to even detonate an ammo rack? It is really silly if you ask me. Meanwhile APFSDS seems to annihalate everything it comes across. Seems like Gaijin's top-tier bias to me.
APCR and APDS among other rounds have a mechanic of the shell's weight/mass influencing the amount of spalling it produces, APFSDS however does not, instead opting for only two damage/spall presets independently of mass or weight of the shell, them being short or long rod APFSDS, so you are unironically kinda right about top tier bias lol because people in war thunder old days complained so much of inconsistent APFSDS damage that they tweaked it so much till it concluded with this "fix" of artificial damage calculation for gameplay purposes
@@henriquelopes9899They wont fix midtier beacause of this bias (caused by greed but I digress) and they wont fix APCR, HESH and all other kinetic projectiles. Also they wont fix cas for all BRs because it doesn't lead to more money.

15:40 aggravated me. Rushes in frontally against an enemy, takes a poorly aimed shot, does a lot of damage but not enough to disable the gun or kill (he should be fully aware of where the pershing store their ammo, its such a free shot in the turret), continues driving into the enemy who is very ready to shoot, with no backup plan, all while knowing full well he doesnt have the reload or the armor to be brawling so aggressively. Then blames the Conway. BRUV

since you said the ratel 90 wasn't bad, you should play the objectively awful ratel version; the ratel 20. it has the same bad mobility as the 90, but with the same weapons as the marder IFV, which doesn't sound bad at first, until you realise you're expected to fight king tigers and jumbo pershings with 7 ATGMs that do barely any damage and reload slowly, and an autocannon that can't even pen a panther's side (day 45)

You can actually reduce the reload on british tanks by setting a key bind for the kettle and making sure it's on at the beginning of a match

It is such a bad mechanic. Like even if the 6.3 kg slug shatters it is still 6.3 KG of metal impacting the plate at 1400m/s xd
6:30 : Google defines sniping as: "the action of shooting at someone from a hiding place, especially accurately and at long range"
So yeah, TECHNICALLY sniping, as the long range part isnt specifically necessary.
The APDS only works on higher caliber such as the Conway and that's what OddBaws was talking about when he shot through a Panthers upper front plate like butter and it kills the entire tank crew inside.
I believe the 76mm APDS is also capable of that, I've certainly done it often in the Cent Mk2

I don't understand why sppokston just cant comprehend that breech is a massive block of armor, like 2000mm or more depends on where you shoot, also since they are made of much stronger metal, you know, able to withstand the massive pressure from propellant
I understand where your coming from and agree, I also believe that the game doesn’t take weight into effect even if the breach stopped the round it will would have completely destroyed the entirety of the turret
@gloomycrayon355 it absolutely doesn't which is why 152mm ap from the 152 doesn't just rip the Panther turret off its ring on non-pens.
@@gloomycrayon355 it would if it's aphe or even solid ap, but you gonna understand that apds is sub calibre round with much much lower mass, therefore shrapnel less, it would must likely bounce around a bit at the side where it entered and few downward into the basket, but the crew at the entrance side is most likely already dead
The super slow reload is where you will get let down, but peeking over a rock formation at range is where this thing excels.

0:13 both of these are ridiculously good, conqueror is basically a railgun that goes through ANYTHING. I love all of these british sniper tanks and their spiritual successor in 8.3 - Olifant Mk.1A. I successfully played as Anti-Air with Conqueror vs helis. As other people already wrote, Spookston's APDS problem is mostly skill issue because he was always held by the hand like a baby with american APHE.
He aims for the thinnest amour parts but you need to aim for a bit you can just about pen reliably and the spall gets into the crew compartment
I tried to like the Conq but I prefer the Caenarvaen over it. Even a Conq APDS doesn't go through a T261-E1 UFP because it sucks against stacked armor. The 84mm gun does about the same damage and twice the faster reload speed. As a British main, I know that with early APDS, you're supposed to aim for ammo or breech since center mass shots are a gamble. Because of that, the Caenarvaen can follow up shots a lot better to finish enemies off. Well, I like to play aggressive so faster reload is an obvious choice.
@@barronhelmutschnitzelnazi2188 we are just different types of British tankers, I like to sit back over a kilometre away and laugh at anything that tries to pen my turret, getting rid of strategically placed TDs and stuff that tries to flank. I liked both caern and conq but for different maps and strategies with conq being better for my style.
@Snoopsthecat yeah, I know, I cringed every time I've seen him doing that and then acting like "wow it finally works" when he literally cuts through a tank like butter, going through the engine block and 3 crewmates at once, at an angle. Like what do you mean dude, what else would you like it to do for you?!

Knowing you hate: British vehicles, slow moving vehicles, and solid shot, I would like to ask you whether it would at all be possible for you to play the Matilda, with only solid shot, no FPE, no crew replenishment, no repairs and in the area of your home furthest away from any internet connectivity, on the lowest frame rate possible. I believe this challenge could be quite fun.

I remember HESH being good when it first came out. It can kill a T-10M frontally, or any tank that had sloped armor for that matter. It was really working as intended.

HESH also just doesnt work in WT. Sometimes all the damage is ate by sites or tracks. Shot a T44-100 dead in the side with FV4005. Got his track, he MG'd my turret to death.
This is the same round in testing that knocked centurion turrets off of tanks. And gaijin goes nah its a survivable.
Thanks to the limitless autism of the British military-industrial complex, we now have the worst tanks and the worst shells

HESH does not explode like a HE nor molds itself to the opponent like an explosive plastic, bullet nerfed by programming

I will die on this hill alone but I believe they either need to remove shell shatter or make it so all rounds have the real life issues they had.
I’m not sure if you had noticed but if you use an ammo box it reloads straight into your ready rack. Which probably would have made some of your sniping positions better.
May make for an interesting video to find another tank destroyer with ready rack to use that feature on.

They've really done my boy HESH raw. It used to be amazing, I'd bring the Ontos into then-top-tier matches and do all sorts of silly things to modern MBTs. RIP HESH
fun fact about conq APDS, is just like BESH if it hits anything else before the main armor or there is something behind the main armor it the round will shatter. Once you understand that you become a real menace in the battlefield
Day 178 You should play a tank with hydropneumatic suspension (recommend the MBT-70) But the catch is you have to drop the suspension as low as it can go for the whole match.

I always get like whiplash from Spookston despicing the APDS on the Conway and Conq when I feel like I do really well with it. Maybe the slow reload and less damage but great pen matters less when I like to snipe and flank every single game. I hate brawling at under 400 meters lmao.

@ZwizuCS I was a German main and then played a few other nations before starting to focus on the British tree. Didn't feel like a massive learning curve. Maybe I got lucky and the playstyle worked for me.

A few funny things I have to note:
3:19 : The bombs somehow managed to blow off your grenade launchers, but the grenades themselves didn't go off, so they're just hovering there weirdly.
8:59 : That Swedish Tiger II fired off his smoke after, presumably, sitting there and staring at you for two thirds of the fifteen seconds it took you to reload. Only after ten seconds does he seem to remember he has the option.
10:25 : Considering you managed to park a Conway behind some rocks over a contested spawn point and burned through so much of the aforementioned fifteen second reload rate cannon's ammo that you had to actually put an ammo box down, shot multiple players twice from the same position, got scouted at least once, bore witness to the worst attempt at a bait I've ever seen and didn't once get CAS'd, I would dare say that America players are living up to the stereotype.
The rule of War Thunder: if you’re playing with {insert nation here} they’re dumber than cardboard, but when you play against said nation they’re tactical genuises
when you bring the hesh for light vehicles and it ends up just acting like a fuckin broken shrapnel shell with 0 HE filler
