  • Maple syrup season is almost here! If you're only making enough for yourself, then the easy solution is to use a propane burner to boil the sap. You're going to want a sturdy burner with a hot flame, and one that sits low to the ground.
The GasOne Model B-5450 is a great option! I was surprised how fast water came to a boil, and I anticipate cutting my boil time significantly.

I have been using this same burner for backyards maple syrup for 3 years, and it is excellent.

How many hours can you typically run with this burner and a full 20 lb tank?

I’m not sure but I hooked up a 100 lb tank to boil maple syrup and did several batches for about 5 hours each. Probably over 25 hours. And there’s still gas in the tank. My issue (and not a bad issue) is that the flame is HUGE, even too big for my 10 gallon stock pot. So I’m not turning it all the way up, but it’s a LOT more flame than a regular turkey fryer.

@@HappyWifeAcres Thanks for the quick reply. The issue I have is that I'm trying to find a similar system you have, but it hooked up to the LP outlet that's on my back porch. The concern is that this LP outlet it's low pressure, not high pressure (only 1/2 PSI). So trying to build something like you, but using a cooker that's low pressure instead of high pressure, so I can hook this up to that LP wall outlet so I don't have to deal with propane tanks, as I already have a huge tank for my house. I know this 200,000 GasOne burner is high pressure one, at up to 20 PSI, so definitely not an option for my setup. Any idea what kind of burner I could use that would work for my setup? Thanks!

1/2 psi seems extremely low. Most LP tanks have regulators of 10-20 PSI. If your outlet is that low and connected to a large tank, I’d be looking for a blockage or a closed valve.

@@HappyWifeAcres I haven't measured the pressure, but that's what the label says on the LP outlet that's on the house. Says the following: GAS PLUG - Max Pressure 1/2 PSIG - 60m B.T.U. N.G @ 7" w.c.
